I was super excited for this place to open because the Fishbone in the valley is delicious. Clearly this is under different ownership, or is some sort of a franchise, because the two locations could not be more different. One of the best things about the valley location is the remoulade sauce which is the best I've ever had. This place serves some sort of mayonnaise-y goo with zero flavor. Everything we ate was bad. The po-boy was short on shrimp, had unripe tomato and mixed salad greens on it, instead of iceberg, and the bread was squishy. The red beans and rice were burned, dry and flavorless. The catfish plate was served with three tiny pieces of catfish that tasted like dirt, for nearly $20. The potato salad with sweet. Bleach. The french fries were overcooked and under seasoned and dry. We spent $71 on terrible food and we will not be back.

Leaving a 5 star review to help with that 1 star review for having to wait. It’s a new restaurant! Things happen.

“Waited over 30 minutes for my food, despite placing a phone order to save time. Very disappointed with the service, and the staff didn’t offer an apology. I won’t be returning—such a letdown.”

Fish Bone Restaurant
2709 e. Thousand Oaks Blvd.

Stopped in today to check out this new fish restaurant. I was not disappointed. I usually have my fish grilled or broiled, but I decided to get it fried today. And, as long as I was throwing caution to the wind, I ordered the hush puppies and red beans and rice as well.
Everything was delicious and well presented.

My Wife ordered the fried shrimp dinner with Cole slaw and french fries. I tried the shrimp, which are jumbo size, delicious, the fries were tender inside and slightly crispy outside, and there were plenty to share. She loved the cole slaw as well.

The dinners come with 2 sides and a dinner roll.

I will be going back because I had the red snapper today, but I am anxious to try the catfish and salmon ( fish can be fried or grilled) and the collard greens, which are cooked with smoked turkey instead of smoked pork.

They have combo plates and family meal deals too.

Oh, and I haven't tried them yet, but they have fresh baked peach cobbler, sweet potato pie , red velvet cake and chocolate cake .

The restaurant is small, a few tables inside and a couple outside, and they also do takeout.

Everything was neat and clean, even the restroom.

Fish Bone, I welcome you to Thousand Oaks CA!
