Best omakase for the value in South Bay. Owned by a Japanese husband and wife duo in a strip mall corner. Parking has always been available every time we’ve been here, and we’ve came over 6+ times now. Go often and keep them in business for years to come!

Dinner reservations are required and the omakase is always great here for the value and service. It's a perfect hole in the wall local sushi place that's worth coming to support the mom and pop business. They've been here for a long time and it shows in the quality of food and friendly service.

Traditional japanese omakase. Been there more than five times with friends and family. The place is cozy but old. The food is fresh and great with a fair price.

This is one of the place one of my friends recommended to me awhile back. It is definitely one of those spots I want to gate keep since it meets some of my fave criterias: 1) good value 2) great food 3) unassuming small business/mom and popThis spot is in an unassuming plaza run by a husband and wife. They do 60-70ish dollar omakase that comes with a lot of food (10 pieces of sushi, sashimi platter, fried fish, and dessert). The sushi isn't high end by any means, but it is good quality and value for the amount of food that you get. I do recommend reservations as I don't think they take walk-ins.

We started out the meal with salad and cucumber & tuna. We then proceeded with a sashimi plate, 10 pieces of DELICIOUS sushi, 1 hand roll, soup, & finally ice cream.

You know a joint is a hole in the wall when it shares the same tiny plaza as a liquor store and has nothing super fancy inside except for the amazing dishes placed in front of you. This definitely has a very homey, small mom-pop kinda feel. There are literally only two workers: wife as the server and husband as the sushi chef. With that said, the place is tiny so you'll have to make reservation in advance! For the price you pay, you'll get full off the omakase! The presentation and quality of the food is worth more than the price (but don't tell the owners that or else they'll increase it!) Bottles of sake here is really a steal! Come for the food, stay for the drinks. Huge shout out to the two working couple who kept an eye out for us and made sure we didn't drink too much before leaving.Come and see for yourself. You will NOT be disappointed. Especially when your first plate is so IG-worthy..

This cozy little place probably has the best Omakase you're gonna get for the price. At only $63 (~$80 with tax + tip), this chef's-choice course meal is absolutely amazing. All the seafood is super fresh, and the flavors are lined up perfectly.I especially love how the raw black snapper and ama ebi head are initially used as garnish but then reintroduced as their own dishes later on: the black Snapper gets deep fried and you have a choice of either deep frying the ama ebi head as well or adding it into a miso soup. The service is also great and the hostess is very nice and guides you in how each dish should be best eaten (e.g. no soy sauce, squeeze lemon, etc)The restaurant is located in a tiny plaza with semi-limited parking and seems to be reservation-only (with max party of 4, but they made a special exception for us for 5) so call ahead!Overall, it was a great experience here!

My gf and her husband have been raving about Kantaro Sushi for years and we have been meaning to make it out to Torrance to check out their omakase. Since my cousin had a birthday coming up, we decided to make a reservation. Unfortunately, they couldn't accommodate a party of 7 so our husbands had to stay home. Womp, womp. We ended up with a party of 4 for dinner. I miscalculated my travel time from South OC and ended up 5 minutes late due to traffic. The restaurant is located in a sketchy strip mall next to a liquor store and laundromat. Parking is tight. The omakase is $63 per person before taxes and gratuity. It consists of 10-courses. Once seated, we were served sunomono (cucumber salad) and a small green salad. We each had a hot green tea and water. I wasn't sure if this was included with the service as I had arrived a few minutes after the girls were seated. The next course was the snapper sashimi and sea anemone. Our server, let us know what we were eating and which sauce to pair our fish with. The presentation of the whole fish was beautiful. Then the nigiri courses came out: toro, ahi, halibut, yellowtail, Hoikkado scallop, Baja uni, Alaskan salmon roe, a mini chirashi bowl with shrimp head, and shrimp nigiri. The original snapper head that was served on the plate with the sashimi was taken back to the fryer and presented to us a second time as a fried fish dish. The shrimp head from the chirashi bowl was also fried per request (we were asked if we wanted it fried or added to our soup). The miso soup was brought out as with the fried items. The final pieces were: unagi, a toro hand roll, and tomago with strawberry jam. For dessert, we were given the option of green tea or red bean ice cream. Needless to say, we were stuffed at the conclusion of our meal. Our service was lovely and timed well. Our party was able to split our check four ways. Kantaro is a mom & pop establishment with outdated decor, but don't let that deter you from enjoying a meal here. If you're looking for a solid omakase experience, Kantaro is it. Reservations for dinner are required.

My brother brought me here for the Omakase! IMust say, EVERYTHING was delicious! The value of the entire meal is stupendous! I left there with a full stomach. The highlight of the meal for me was the left-over fried Greek black snapper that started with the sashimi....once you finish the sashimi, they remove the remainder of the fish and perfectly fry it! We ate the entire fried fish, bones and all, they simply were fried in such a manner that everything just crumbled in your mouth! I can't wait to come back and try that night's omakase set!

Comfortable and affordable for what it is. About 8 courses of the highest quality omakase you can expect outside of Japan. Run by a darling couple, truly exceptional.Vegetarian options: I would not recommend for vegetarians, as their specialty is fish.Dietary restrictions: They were receptive to our dietary restrictions, but you ABSOLUTELY MUST tell them when making your reservation, as they buy everything for service in the morning.

Don't judge a book by its cover! I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kantaro Sushi in Torrance and experiencing their omakase journey, which was not only exquisite but also reasonably priced. Despite its unassuming location and simple exterior, this hidden gem surprised me with an extraordinary dining experience.Walking into Kantaro Sushi, I was warmly greeted by a humble older couple--the woman serving as the waitress and the man as the talented chef. While the restaurant's appearance may not be grandiose, it quickly became apparent that the true magic lies in what is served on the plate. The staff welcomed me warmly and ensured that my omakase experience would be nothing short of exceptional.Kantaro Sushi specializes in omakase, serving mostly this chef's tasting menu. The chef demonstrated a keen sense of balance, carefully transitioning from one course to the next while introducing new and exciting elements. This thoughtful curation of flavors truly showcased the chef's creativity and expertise. Not only was the food exceptional, but the presentation was also exquisite. Each dish was meticulously crafted, demonstrating a commitment to aesthetics that elevated the entire dining experience. Sitting at the sushi counter allowed me to witness the precision and passion of the chef, which added an extra layer of enjoyment to the meal. One of the most remarkable aspects of Kantaro Sushi's omakase experience is the fair pricing.
