“I have nothing negative to say about this restaurant. I love the menudo. Today, my coworkers and I ordered 3 menudos for lunch. Everything was delicious. However, the plastic spoons provided were sharp around the edges, and it cut my top lip, and my coworkers agreed that they to experienced the same. I did call the restaurant, but the manager wasn't available until after 6 pm. I was told by the gentleman on the phone that it has never happened before. Maybe, but it happened to us today. 2/2/24 I just want to make them aware and anyone who may order take out (especially). It could just be a bad batch of plastic spoons. They come with a fork, knife, and napkin.”

“I recently dined at Urban Plates in Torrance, CA, and I must say, the experience was nothing short of phenomenal. From the moment I walked in, the ambiance enveloped me in a warm and inviting atmosphere that promised a delightful dining experience. However, what truly set this visit apart was the extraordinary service provided by our server, Danny.Danny was the epitome of professionalism mixed with genuine care and attentiveness. Not only did he make expert recommendations that catered perfectly to our taste preferences, but he also went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of our meal was to our liking. His attention to detail was impeccable, and his friendly demeanor added a special touch to our evening. The food, as always, was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Urban Plates' commitment to quality and sustainability is evident in every bite. But it was Danny's exceptional service that transformed our meal into an unforgettable experience. His dedication to exceeding customer expectations is a rare find, and it's servers like him that make Urban Plates stand out in the bustling culinary scene of Torrance.I am incredibly thankful for Danny's outstanding service and cannot recommend Urban Plates in Torrance, CA, highly enough. If you're looking for a dining experience that combines delicious food with exceptional service, look no further. Be sure to ask for Danny, and you'll be in for a treat!”

“Amazing food and lovely service! Was immediately greeted with a welcoming smile from Bobby who proceeded to give us outstanding personalized food and wine recommendations. We had the scallops (on lobster risotto — oh my!) and the bolognese with in-house ground rib-eye (another oh my!). We love big bold reds and he recommended a delicious cab sauv from Priest Ranch (which is rarely seen on a restaurant wine list), and it was well priced to boot! We usually are not dessert people, but when he said strawberry shortcake made with a homemade biscuit — Southern style — I was sold. It was truly just like my grandmother’s. We will definitely come here again!Parking: Plenty of street parking and a free lot is around the corner”

“This place has been around forever and I'm happy to see them grow! From a small hut taking cash only to now the double sized location and taking cards!Their soba and udon are home made and a very unique glow to their noddles. The soba looks a little clear. And the udon is very thin with texture.I am so mad I didn't take photos of my friends plates as everyone had a good spread of noodles. The nebaneba has been my favorite to go to.I sometimes get their kakiage a la carte It's like $7 but super huge!!! It's super good but I wish they just made it half the price and gave half the amount Regardless this place has all your favorite noodle additions! Tempura, shabu shabu meat, etcYou can also get donburi and their combo is fair priced. When you feel like you can get more you can always get foster freeze soft serve next door!”

“Smog City Brewing Co. is one of the best breweries I've been to in the LA Metro! They have a nice taproom space that expands outdoors, they have TV's playing whatever major game is going on that night, and the beer is top notch. My group thoroughly enjoyed the Tuna Thai Thai Belgian Blonde w/ Prickly Pear,Coffee Porter, Snuggly Bug Sour, Hoppy New Year Spruce Tip IPA and Unyielding Haze IPA! The Portuguese, Spanish and Mexican fusion taco stand was also amazing, and we came back for seconds! Some of the best tacos we've had in a long time! The prices for the beer here were also below market average which was a nice change of pace, especially since everything was delicious. 5/5 would highly recommend stopping in!”

Aunty Maile's Hawaiian Restaurant 19106 S Normandie Ave Ste 2, Torrance Hawaiian • $$
19106 S Normandie Ave Ste 2, Torrance

“So I have to admit this was my second time going so I figured this was a time to do a review. First off I want to say the food is definitely worth the wait so that definitely is a plus now this being my second time I will say the first difference I noticed was in the portions mind you when I went the first time it was not busy we really did not have to wait long for our food at all but the second time we decided that we're going to go into the parking lot we're going to call our food and they gave us a 15 before our food will be done so we figured let's wait in the car because they had live music and it was busy. Now we took 20 minute before going inside just to find out that they did not even make our food what is highly frustrating I'm okay if you say let's call in the order so we don't have to wait in line to pay which I'm all for it but a full disclosure would have been better than waiting an extra 30 minutes for a food on the inside and eventually going back. Also it will be nice if I was told over the phone we won't start cooking your food until you pay for it because instead of us waiting outside we would have came and paid for it and only waited however long it took to make the food because they make food and order in which its paid because you can physically see it what's your name which is also fine however I did not expect to wait that long for some food otherwise why not just say you have to order inside or it's better if you do it through an app so we can start your food and it can be ready..Now looking past that when I tell you the quality and the taste of the food was exactly the same from the first time I went I praised the people and their recipe in a consistency that they give when making the food. And yes of course it's because they don't cook things out of order they cook them as they get to them and your food does hot but I wish that earlier part was communicated a lot better because then I know how to move from there of course I came there for the food so I was not leaving but knowing how much I'm actually going to wait will have me plan out better because it kind of ran longer into other things we wanted to do...I would still want to try them again just to make sure. I just hope the phone experience is not the same”

Cellador Ales 1879 Del Amo Blvd, Torrance Brewery • $$
1879 Del Amo Blvd, Torrance

“Cellador has long been a top-rated brewery amongst beer fans/snobs, but their niche is very particular: They produce barrel-fermented sour beers, so if you're looking for a hard seltzer, Czech pilsner, or triple imperial pastry stout, this isn't the brewery for that. Cellador's current location on Del Amo Boulevard in Torrance is not a taproom; there's no place to drink here. To be honest, it's barely even a sales location. From the large Smog City Brewing logo on the wall, one can likely surmise they are using capacity at a Smog City facility ― especially since Smog City's brewery and taproom are right across the parking lot. (That, and the first person who helped me here I later spotted worked at said taproom.) The owner came and spoke with me, and was very patient even as I admitted that I am not a big fan of sour beers and that I had not warmed well to one of Cellador's I had recently tried. Nonetheless, I did find something to purchase: a Lichtenhainer, a rare type of beer that has a lactic fermentation where the malt is smoked, so it's both smoky and sour. (It's an acquired taste, to be sure, but I love smoked beers.) While their style may not be my thing, I respect Cellador's devotion to their craft, and the owner is a really nice guy, too. I wish them the best, and while they may not be in my beer strike zone, I'll keep trying them to see what they're doing.”

We thought we would have to cook the meats but Casey, our awesome server came by and grilled the meats for us as we ate the grilled meats off the grill. “This place reminds me of chiang mai! The flavors are great and the people who work there are as sweet and friendly as the people of chiang mai. Maybe the flavors have been slightly changed to accommodate American tastes but for the most part everything is really tasty here. So glad there's a few thai places worth going to in South bay and not have to drive all the way to Hollywood. As a shout out the three bowl thai spots in gardena (bowl thai, sweet rice and bowl thai grill) are my other favorite thai spots. But this one is very close if you live in the south bay. Definitely worth a visit. Crab fried rice is very tasty and the chicken khao soi is very good.”

The Matzo ball didn't have much flavor, and I found the texture hard to stomach. I also had the grilled ham and cheese sandwich with fries. The fries were perfectly crunchy and unsalted. “I planned a Memorial event for my mom at the Depot in Torrance and I can't say enough about how wonderful and accommodating they were throughout the entire process, which made it easier on me to wrangle while also mourning the loss. From the first time I called Chef Michael to inquire about possibly hosting an event he was incredibly kind, empathetic and straightforward on how to arrange for an event. On the day of the event, the Kimono room was set up and clean, and when we had several unexpected guests, the staff quickly set up an extra table for them and were incredibly kind with impeccable service. The meal was family-style with a variety of things so people could pick and choose what they wanted. I didn't get to eat much of my meal as I was up and down trying to coordinate people, but I did enjoy a delicious croissant type of roll and the pumpkin or squash soup which I thought was delicious.Asit relates to events, they have easels you can use, and microphones for speaking, and the cost to host the event is solely for the food and beverage, there is no cost for the room and you have your own private space for an extended period of time. The chef also came around and spoke to guests during the luncheon which made it feel really special.I also want to call out Brett who was our main host and led the servers during the lunch who was personable, kind, patient, funny and really made the luncheon special.I appreciate the Depot and all they did to support us at this time and would 100% consider hosting another event there in the future (hopefully something unrelated to the loss of a family member.)”

Unfortunately, my friend spilled her drink and Grant was very attentive, replacing her drink, replacing it twice since the other one had no ice. We had two helpings of that delicious salad with Italian dressing, so much that it was hard to eat the ravioli! Of course, there were bread sticks too! No room for dessert! Sushi Anza 4647 Torrance Blvd, Torrance Sushi • $$
4647 Torrance Blvd, Torrance

“My first review! My visit here last night was nothing short of a revelation in the art of sushi dining. Celebrating its 17th year, this gem of a restaurant has not just stood the test of time; it has set the bar for what authentic Japanese cuisine can embody. Though it is not your modern izakaya nor fine-dining luxury, it firmly facets itself as the "OG" restaurant in the diverse Japanese dining scene.Immediately upon entering, I observed details of its classic entity by old decos of art, calligraphy, signs, photos, and handwritten notes. It was an ambiance that exuded warmth. I immediately felt the history and dedication woven into the fabric of this place. The owners have crafted not merely a restaurant but a sanctuary for those who appreciate the finer nuances of Japanese culture and cuisine.I opted for the sushi combo course. Each piece of sushi was a testament to the chef's mastery over his craft, with every ingredient shining through in a delicate balance of flavors and textures with a properly curated course. All the nigiri boasted freshness in a blend of tastes that was above satisfactory by the plate. But what truly sets Sushi Anza apart is the heart and soul poured into every aspect of the dining experience. From the attentive, yet unobtrusive service to the meticulous presentation of the dishes, you can feel the love and dedication that the owners have for their craft. It's this personal touch combined with an "aged" ambience that transforms a meal into an experience. In a world where the genuine essence of Japanese cuisine can sometimes be lost amidst fusion and innovation, Sushi Anza stands as a beacon of tradition and quality.Overall, my first visit here was a nostalgic journey through the very essence of Japanese tradition, guided by the hands of those who know and respect it the most. I cannot recommend Sushi Anza enough and look forward to many more visits. I hope to regain the same authentic warmth, excellence, and quality that hallmarks the culinary gems of Torrance.”
