This Japanese restaurant in Old Torrance often allows walk-ins, making it a convenient spot for impromptu meals or after-parties. I really appreciate the atmosphere, which is conducive to staying for a long time when it's not too crowded. I recommend the sashimi and sushi. While Japanese cuisine tends to be pricey these days, the prices here feel quite reasonable.

Updated Review 11/27/23: I can't get enough of the omakase nigiri set. The different variety of fish hits the mark every time. Their chawanmushi is the silkiest and most flavorful chawanmushi I've ever had. The staff is also always extremely nice. I always make the hour drive 2-3x a year.

Last Friday our zumba ladies 13 of us used it for our end of year gathering.I was glad I chose this restaurant bcz everything we ordered was SUPER GOOD!!! We ordered and shared Sashimi, sushi, tempura Gozens and ala carte menu like edamame, oyster fries, etc. Gozens came w/ salad, miso soup, chawanmushi (egg steam), rice. All fried menu were crispy and sashimi so fresh and cut generously. Price of foods are so reasonable as well. Just unbelievable!!Japanese waitresses were trained and service was excellent.Even though I forgot to reserved 3 exta people the restaurant accomodated 13 of us quickly and I really appreciated it. Highly recommended!!!P.S. Access from underground parking is the best.Parking: Access from underground parking is the best and easy.

This year for Thanksgiving, it was going to just be me and my parents as my siblings were staying out of town and my partner was out of town with his family. Instead of getting the typical turkey dinner, which none of us really love, we decided we wanted to share quality sushi.I wasn't sure what places would be open on Thanksgiving but lucky for us Irifune was. I was able to order a Sashimi platter in advance with Tomoko as well as some udon in case anyone wasn't full on fish. The restaurant is inside a residential/retail plaza with underground and street parking. The entrance it's near the escalators and elevator (tho the escalators were under repair during my visit). Picking up the food to go was relatively quick though I could tell they were busy even though it was an odd meal time (230pm).The food was beautifully cut and presented and the pieces were a decent size. We were all satisfied with the quality of seafood and my parents enquired where the restaurant was as they may want either dine in or order pick up in the future--Irifune really made their Thanksgiving! As I did not dine in, I can't really comment on the dine in service or ambiance but the food itself is great. I'll for sure be back.

Kappo Irifune is a hidden gem in Torrance serving some of the best Japanese food in the area. With its classic Japanese ambience and focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients, Kappo Irifune is a great place to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine.Kudos to Tomoko, the lovely, helpful and friendly owner. I loved my lunch last Wednesday and the Uni... oh my! Oh my! One of the best Uni I ever tasted. It's so buttery and sweet! Overall, I had a wonderful dining experience at Kappo Irifune. The food was amazing, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great Japanese dining experience.

This restaurant was recently renovated but it still looks outdated. There was only 1 waiter and 1 sushi chef when we went, and it caused a lot of delay in our order since the restaurant was quite packed for the lunch break. The quality of the fish is great and the presentation is pleasant. How I wish though that they'd have more servers though.

The omakase is a really good deal for only about $50! The chawanmushi was excellent & the servers were nice and attentive. I just wish the fish was a little fresher, but overall not bad for the price!

This is a very traditional and well-done, meaning, executed, sushi restaurant. We were a rather large party of ten people, so the waitress, whose name I should have remembered, had a heck of time with all of our needs. The inside of the restaurant was rather hot, so she brought out a fan, we asked for a lot of water and some other personal needs, and all the while, she kept smiling and was very positive and attentive. I am pretty sure that the chef and the server were a husband and wife team. I really hope/pray that they succeed because of the quality of the food and service. I won't go into detail about who and what people ordered, I will narrow it down to what was ordered. Sashimi plates, a chirashi combo w/tempura, most everyone ordered tempura, a fried oyster gozen, chicken teriyaki gozen, beef teriyaki gozen, couple of orders of edamame, and a couple of specialty rolls (including), two orders of uni. If you're wondering what "gozen" stands for, it means food that is nourishing, for body and spirit. The only complaint that I have is that the sashimi that was used for the plates was used for the "chirashi," which I ordered. The fish is fine, but their should be a difference when it comes to adding a clam and / or other accompaniments like uni or fresh squid to the chirashi. However, the chawanmushi (steamed egg/teacup) was delicious! All of the food was delicious. I know I wrote a lot, but this restaurant deserves a well explained review.

This restaurant is in an unassuming business plaza, and looks smaller than it is (the entrance is not facing the street but rather, another restaurant). After making my rounds around Old Torrance for a bit, I found parking in the area and walked over. I spied an underground lot in the same building as the restaurant, but I wanted to stay on the street. I loved the menu; there's real snow crab and many rolls that aren't heavily sauced. I chose a salmon skin roll because it had gobo and two hand rolls- one had snow crab sticks and the other was eel. Everything was so fresh!Overall, I would definitely return and try more of the menu! Pros:- ambience and decor- simple menu- real crab- polite employees Cons:- limited dining hours- parking is not great- hand rolls difficult to eat (cucumbers are cut big, nori is tough to bite)- a tad pricey

First time I went, they were closed due to fire a few months ago and recently reopened. We had a reservation next door but decided to go here last min since they were opened and we go to miyabi uni, next door pretty often. The worst sushi (yellowtail, salmon and ikura)The worst salmon sushi ever. I have never had a bad salmon in my life but the color of the fish was almost like light/medium brown? The worst salmon (not buttery or fresh) and its very difficult to mess salmon in my opinion. The color was super dark and I refused to eat and only had one piece. Yellowtail was good but super thin and small slice. I will never have sushi here again. We also had two orders of halibut sashimi. It was 3.5 stars. It was fresh but not chewy and too soft.Had 6 oysters. Super big and meaty. Milky and not clean. If you like small clean flavor oysters, you will hate it. I think if fried, it will be good. Will try fried oysters but not fresh next time.Overall sushi was bad, On the other hand,All of the appetizers were good 4-5 stars Takoyaki -4.5stars. Crunchy and hotSausage 5 stars Poke belly 3.5Grilled cod 4.5Beef Takaki 4.5-5We got there and order a beer at 6:34pm and they didn't honor happy hour due to ring 4 mins late. We did not ask for happy hour price but the server mentioned it to us that we will have to pay the regular price. I only mentioned it because that was not a smarty move on their end. We are a local and we go to that mall pretty often yet it was our first time there and that was the first impression of the restaurant. If they are smart, they should have honored it for the first time customer so they have a good experience and they return. The next door miyabi uni has all day happy hour menu and one if the reason we go there often AGD they have good sushi. The only downside is they don't have a variety of menu selection. Second impression of the restaurant, I Asked for a large Sapporo bottle and I got a large canned of black dark canned Sapporo instead and they said I couldn't changed (they opened it at the time if serving). Later, the owner said we can changed it but we declined and I was very annoyed). Staff are Very friendly yet don't understand how to make customer happy. I will return for appetizers but I will never eat sushi there again very bad quality and not fresh. Also, restaurant is not dirty but not super clean which I care about especially for a place where they serve a raw fish. I know fish very well and this is not the place for a good sushi or sashimi. Only go to eat some appetizers and drinks.Overall review 2.5-3 stars

If you're looking for a great date night, this is a great spot! We were looking for an omakase place with a good deal and good amount of food and came across this location. Omakase was about $49/pp and we were so full after (included egg custard, salad, miso soup) and they also have $2 beers for HH! My favorite was the toro and the raw shrimp. They ask you how you also like it cooked, in miso or fried. We also ordered a side of crab croquette and usually I am not a huge croquette person but damn, this was so perfectly crunchy and the filling was hot and delicious.

Not very nice talking to the lady when you're doing a pick up order. And when I went to go pick up my order she handed me my food and said thank you so much as if I paid already. The restaurant had 1 group so it wasn't even that busy but she was running around like she's super busy. But of course I stayed back and paid because I'm just not that kind of person. Also, noticed the sushi chef recklessly handling his sushi knife by chucking it on the side and allowing it to hit other things around his work area. Dull knifes can't make nice sushi ya know. They should always respect and maintain their knifes with proper care. Just some feedback here, hope you guys make the proper changes so I can come back and edit this review to a 5 star!Food looked a bit dull in color, not sure if its just a little old but I'm normally used to seeing sushi that's a bit more vibrant in color. Taste wise was okay.
