This small old school sandwich shop and liquor store serves up some absolutely amazing tasty sandwiches at a great value just off Hawthorne on Newton, south of PCH. The really nice lady working there mentioned she had been there over 20 years and the store had been there since the 40's. We tried the hot pastrami sandwich and turkey avocado as well as their house salad. The salad is large and fresh and for like 8 bucks.. steal of deal. The pastrami was excellent.. not greasy but medium.. it has a delicious smokey flavor and great texture. The roll held up perfectly even eating a while later on a take out order. That is the sign of a great quality roll. The turkey avocado comes out on wheat bread with veggies and there is a really good dressing or vinegar deal they put on that takes it to the next level. Honestly I don't know where you can find this great a lunch for 2 these days for under 40 bucks.. going to a chain sandwich place and paying the same or more should be illegal with Tucker's there to serve you something truly special.

To all my Ilwu brothers and sisters, it’s worth the drive. I love busy bee but this place has a better pastrami sandwich hands down.

I've lived in the area since 1968 and this place has been a real pleasure for deli sandwiches and liquor and other needs. They really do have some great sandwiches great well made perfect the best and that's what this place is known for. They also have a large variety of wine and other hard liquor and of course

Went to Tucker's to try the pastrami sandwich.Good: I liked that you can order, customize your sandwich, and pay on the little screen in front of the deli counter. The bread was good and the pastrami was sliced in a way that the sandwich didn't fall apart while eating eat. The place looked clean and the cashier was amicable.Bad: The sandwich was waaay too greasy/oily (Why???). It also lacked that "something" that sets it apart from what I could make myself at home, for example. It most definitely isn't in my top five choices for pastrami samdwich in the Southbay area.
