Hit the trap for a “traperes” ski moment and it was electric. The vibes and ambiance were warm and welcoming, the food was fresh and satisfying. Shout out Gil and Piff for the smiles and attentive service. As a Northeast girly, this brought me back home, the chowder is fire and the warm lobster roll - forget about it

Buoy & Trap is the kind of place you don’t expect to find in a mountain town. The seafood is genuinely excellent, the prices feel almost unfair for the quality, and there’s nothing else even close in the area. If you’re are on the outskirts of Truckee and debating whether the drive it’s worth it or not, it is, you will not regret it. The clam chowder alone is worth the stop!!

The lobster roll is outstanding too, whether you go classic cold with mayo or warm with butter (my favorite). Generous lobster, perfectly dressed, and served on a PROPER roll, such a treat.

The oysters are always fresh, clean, and well-handled, with a great rotating selection that shows real attention to sourcing. It’s the kind of detail that serious food people notice right away.

Service is friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. You can ask questions, take your time, or grab something quick and still feel taken care of (just allow 15 minutes as everything is FRESH!)

For the quality of seafood, preparation, and consistency, the value here is unbelievable. Buoy & Trap feels like it belongs in a much larger food city, and it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see it catch the attention of guides like Michelin if they ever look beyond major metros.

An easy five stars — and a place I’d go out of my way to eat at again.

Must visit if you are in Truckee. Food was fresh and delicious. Better than any seafood we have had on the coast. Ordered Crab cake sliders, clam chowder and the lobster roll. Very impressed.

Love this spot! Its nice being able to get fresh fish and oysters from the east coast whenever I want. Always fresh and served with a smile. And when you have a big party and need to impress these guys deliver. Keep up the good work yall!

Wonderful Fish Monger to have in our area! Great seafood with a New England vibe. The secret is their lunch menu. No need to go in for raw seafood, they have food ready to go. You'll probably come out with fresh food for dinner too, lol. Love the atmosphere and the owners!

1st visit and what luck? Trappy Hour has a great selection. Had a quick bowl of the Hawaiian Poké and 2 oysters. Quick and kind service.

I’ve spent most of my life on the East coast and really missed having great seafood since moving to Reno. I heard about Buoy and Trap and finally got to try it. The Lobster Roll was awesome, comparable to what you get in New England, and that’s saying a lot. I’ll be back with friends to try their other offerings.

Small place but worth checking out. Oysters were excellent. Lobster roll was decent but not flavorful like in Maine.
