Really great pizza and service. Learned that it’s a sister restaurant to flour and water in SF. We brought our toddlers with us and our server, Stewart, was accommodating, empathetic and had lots of great recs. He even ran out to the parking lot to bring us our daughter’s bottle that we had forgotten. We’ll be back (if we can land a reservation again…)

A really excellent meal, mared by poor spacing / service. We got the chefs tasting menu. Ordering, courses 1 and 2 all took longer than they should have. Course 2 also came out cold and we had to send it back. Took us 1.5 hours to get through course. Luckily, our new recovered well and we finished strong with good pacing and service for our main and dessert.
Overall, really good food but clearly there was something wrong with the kitchen or spacing.

If I could give zero stars, I would. This establishment is absolutely not family-friendly. From the moment we walked in with our children, the atmosphere was unwelcoming. The staff was dismissive, sarcastic, and displayed behavior that came across as racially biased. When we politely asked if Alfredo sauce was available, the server laughed and responded, “umm no we don’t.” When we requested the check, she sarcastically said, “have fun on your Alfredo adventure — the door is this way.” This level of disrespect is unacceptable and unprofessional. I would strongly advise families, especially those with children, to avoid this place.

We came to Great Gold in Truckee for my wife’s birthday dinner with our two young kids (ages 3 and 4). From the start, the experience fell apart due to basic front-of-house incompetence.
When we arrived, the host told us the restaurant was full but offered to put us on a waitlist. We clearly asked for a table for two adults and two children, which the host acknowledged. We were quoted a 1 hour and 45 minute wait, which we accepted. We waited the entire time in our car, entertaining our kids, until we received a text saying our table was ready.
When we returned inside, the host informed us that he had only put us down for two people, not four, and that they “didn’t have space” for our party. There was no attempt to correct the mistake, no solution offered, and no ownership taken—despite the error being entirely theirs.
What made it worse was the dismissive, pretentious attitude of the host throughout the interaction. Mistakes happen, but how a restaurant responds to them matters. In this case, there was zero effort to fix the situation or accommodate a family who had already waited nearly two hours for a special occasion.
For a restaurant that presents itself as higher-end, this level of disorganization and lack of accountability is unacceptable. We left disappointed, frustrated, and with a ruined birthday plan. I would not recommend this place for families or for anyone celebrating something important.

It feels more like a pizza-focused restaurant than a pasta-driven one. The pasta, considering the price (which is on par with well-known pasta spots in San Francisco), lacks some finesse and detail, and it’s a bit disappointing that the noodles aren’t house-made for the price. The texture is too starchy. I noticed that they tend to cook the pizza and most of dishes well-done.
Overall, though, it may well be the most upscale Italian restaurant in Truckee. Just being able to enjoy food of San Francisco–level quality in this town makes it well worth a visit.

Just go. Everything was fantastic. We had three different pastas, pizza, appetizers, meatballs, and the short ribs. Everything was fantastic. We brought our kids with us and from the minute we walked in the staff was friendly and welcoming. Even engaging our kids not just the adults.
The food was stellar and the service was excellent. Everything we ate was perfectly cooked and well executed. Was it expensive, sure, did I see the price before I went and ordered, yes.
I was not at all disappointed. It was worth every penny. Our server paced the courses perfectly so nothing got cold.
Bottom line, this is a definite place to hit up while in truckee.

One of the worse places I have ever been at honestly. Very disappointing customer service at the door. The person who we made the reservation with booked us a table for 2 instead of 4 and waiting for 1 hour then we called to get our table. We went in and the representative said omg I booked a table for 2. Are you kidding me! And he just said it will be another eait like 15 min. We waited like another 45 min and no table and we left and got to a different place. Very Very disturbing moment and how he handled it very unprofessional. I would neeeeeeeever go back there even if they offer a whole free meal. Wow I am just shocked

I think this is the best restaurant in Truckee. Food is amazing. You can tell every ingredient is high quality. The service is top notch. Yes it’s expensive but this isn’t Olive Garden. This is ultra high quality handmade Italian food.
Pretty impressed overall with this restaurant. The service was excellent and the food was pretty good. The prices are what you would expect from a tourist town but overall very pleased with everything. Portion sizing was good. Bathrooms were clean.

I just dropped $70 for two pizzas that were medium in size, very thin crust and sparsely topped. It was good, but WAY overpriced. Unfortunately, this will be my first and last time ordering here. 🫤
