Disappointed After 30 Years of Visits

I’ve been coming to Wagon Train Coffee Shop for over 30 years, but unfortunately, this last visit may be my last—unless I’m truly out of options again.

We stopped in with three dads and two toddlers after finding Donner Lake Kitchen closed and Squeeze In too busy. I was hoping it would be a solid fallback, but the food just didn’t deliver. Everything we ordered felt heavy, bland, and unhealthy. Honestly, it reminded me of eating at a Denny’s—but at a higher price point.

The total came to around $100 (before tip), which felt steep for what we got. On the bright side, our waitress was fantastic—super friendly and attentive—and the quirky decorations inside are still a highlight. But good service and fun decor can only carry a place so far.

If Wagon Train wants to stay relevant, especially to folks bringing out-of-town guests or trying to eat a little better, they really need to add healthier options to the menu. Something like bagel and lox, avocado toast, oatmeal—anything lighter or fresher—would make a big difference. And frankly, the current offerings could use a quality upgrade across the board.

Hoping to see some changes in the future. This place has history, but it needs to evolve.

Fast service. Great tasting food!!! (I’m a food snob BTW). Never been here but will be here again. And it’s family owned?

Do yourself a favor. Come here!!

This is a must stop if you are in Truckee. Amazing food, staff (family run forever), and it really has that old school feel and atmosphere of truckee

I’ve been coming to the Wagon Train Coffee Shop for years and they never fail to serve up the best biscuits, gravy and sausage in the USA! Better than my grandmother used to make and if you knew her cooking you’d know that’s saying something. Superb job to the wait staff and the chefs! You guys ROCK!

Lovely old dinner. Food was wonderful, staff was down to earth and fun. Other customers at the counter were fun. Don't know why, but everything was half priced when I was in there. Great experience.

To the lady (employee) at this restaurant that took the bike cable cord off the table today 6/8/25 at 1115 am. You should be ashamed of yourself for the rude unacceptable behavior. You were asked in a polite way to take the cable cords off the bottom of the chairs because it was a hazard and you did it with attitude. You treated my table so bad that we walked out . No way in hell was I going to order and give my money to a place to treats customers the way that you did. You should be fired!

Excellent service. Omlette, toast, and coffee were okay, but hash browns were barely cooked. Only place open at 5:30.

Won’t even answer the phone racist awful servers with a lousy management. I’ve called 5 times to get anything sorted out as my family had a horrible encounter there and no answer at all.

Food way over priced for what you get, frozen patty burger $22 , and $4 for a 12 oz can of Coke. It's simply highway robbery. So sad to see a childhood favorite place to go has deteriorated this much in the last few years.

Just a bit too white bread for me...there were customers who were comfortable enough I this place to be loudly and what they chose to talk about was filled with racist and homophobic remarks. My husband and I won't be returning
