Typical rushed and cursory table service especially if you don't speak Chinese. Water and condiments can be hard to come by.

Food is very good. However, I rather they told me the truth instead of steering me into something else. It appeared that they don't have 2 lbs or more lobsters. So, they BS about 2 one lb lobsters would provide better meat quantity and that the meat in a 2 lb lobsters would be tougher. You will get more shell and more elbow joints that are difficult to handle. Instead, just order something else. Anyhow, the lobsters over noodles were nicely cooked and were extremely tasty. So were the surf clams over cellophane noodles. The rest of the dishes were also good except for the salt and pepper pork chops. They were tasty but the chops used were too thick. Desserts were not warm/hot enough.
Service was generally good. Near the end, the waiters were, as if by concerted efforts, ignoring our wavings to get our teapots filled.
The tables were not too jam-packed as other Chinese restaurants.

I was really looking forward to experiencing authentic dim sum, but unfortunately, this visit left me quite disappointed.
First, the tea service was confusing and off-putting. We were initially served a pot of chrysanthemum tea that looked like leftover tea dregs — it was filled with broken petals, and we couldn’t tell whether it was freshly made or someone else’s leftovers. When we asked to change it to Tieguanyin, they brought jasmine tea instead. The mismatch was puzzling and didn’t feel respectful of our request.
Secondly, we found a strand of hair on one of the beef meatballs after a server helped us cut it. I have curly hair, and this was straight — clearly not mine. Unfortunately, the staff was extremely busy and we couldn’t find anyone to report it to, which made the situation worse.
Another frustrating part was the service style. Dishes were placed at the edge of our table, and we had to arrange them ourselves. The steamers were wet and greasy, and I really didn’t want to touch them with my bare hands. Even the stir-fried rice noodles with beef came on a very heavy plate, and we had to serve it ourselves as well.
The tea was served incorrectly twice, and we had to handle our own food despite paying an 18% mandatory service fee — that felt very unfair. Overall, this was not the kind of experience I expected from a dim sum restaurant. I sincerely hope the service can be improved for future customers.

This restaurant is a gem, both authentic and high quality. The rice noodles are a must! The beef (filet) they serve is mouth watering. The seafood tasted fresh and the vegetables were cooked minimally to perfection (crispy, not soggy). This place continues to impress.

We try to make it over here every time we are in the East Bay. We alwast order their Filet with Mushrooms (the reason we come here), and the Seafood fried rice noodles were also really great (crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle). This place is busy and loud, which doesn't bother us. Feels very authentic. Highly recommend it!

Decent Chinese restaurant.
Complimentary snacks:
Picked veggies - Didn’t try the pickled veggies
Peanuts - probably one of the odd taste/texture I have ever tried in all Chinese restaurants that I have been to.
Hot n sour soup. Not bad. Could be better. We were hoping to add some white pepper but no one ‘servers’ seemed to be looking our way.
Stir fried water spinach - young stems with the perfect crunch and tasty.
Singapore stir fried rice noodles - good
Szechuan Broiled beef - not sure why it is called that way but it is very tasty, other than the beef being too tough for my liking.
Ma Po tofu - no traces of ground meat but still good
Mongolian beef - good
Eggplant / good but on the sweet side.
Complimentary desserts:
green bean soup - good and rare because most Chinese restaurants give you red bean, green beans is much better than red, if you understand Chinese medicine.
almond cookies - good but too buttery. I personally prefer if it has more almond flavors.

The service was minimal, and I waited over 30 minutes for my food. I wouldn't recommend it.

Golden Bay Seafood is an absolute gem for authentic Chinese cuisine, especially seafood! The dishes are incredibly fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared. Their dim sum is also a must-try – absolutely delicious and a great variety. The dining experience is wonderful, perfect for family gatherings or a special meal. Highly recommend for top-notch Chinese food!

Words (Regular version):
Our family recently got takeout and dined in this restaurant. When we drove home for some food, I find the food very tasty until the time we dined in. When we arrived, I saw live fish and the environment is authentic but a little old. When we started to order food, we didn’t have any restrictions except for “no bones in the fish.” When the first dishes came out there were no problems until the waitress brought a fish that was covered in bones! Four other bad things are that the fish was not fresh at all, the fish was not the type we ordered, the waitress was ARGUING at us, and worst of all, when we were about to leave, The staff added an automatic 18% tip for LUNCH! We payed a custom tip of 11% tip instead, that is pretty bad for lunch. Conclusion: TERRIBLE restaurant, I will never come back here again and will never recommend ANYONE to come! Also, shut the restaurant down!
***EXPENSIVE. We paid about $18-$22 per non-dimsum dish. Dimsum items were $5 for small and $8 for large.
20% is automatically added to the bill.
We spent about $175 for 3 people with about 5-6 dishes.
Food is delicious but the prices dragged down the rating.
Golden Bay is one of my go-to dim sum spots in the Bay Area. It’s consistent, relatively spacious, and usually doesn’t require an insane wait if you time it right. Their shrimp dim sum is always a standout — fresh, bouncy texture, and well-seasoned. Highly recommend anything shrimp-based here, from har gow to shrimp chive dumplings. The fried rice is another dependable pick: flavorful, not too oily, and generous with ingredients.
I’ve tried quite a bit on the menu (see photo), and overall, everything tastes good. That said, a few dishes could use some fine-tuning. The chicken clay pot rice had barely any abalone — it felt more like a tease than an actual ingredient. The beef rib was decent, but for the price, I expected it to be a little more tender and have more depth in flavor. Fish was just slightly under-fried, missing that golden crisp exterior you’d expect.
Still, the wins outweigh the misses, especially for a casual dim sum meal. It’s not flashy, but it delivers on most of what matters. A solid neighborhood favorite if you’re looking for classic Cantonese comfort food done right.
My friends went there last night, here’s their review:
‘Union city Golden bay seafood restaurants not honest, the entry bill price is not matching the menu price on the table, the boss said the price increase. Some Chinese restaurants do this dirty jobs, it is really shame of them. Sometimes really don’t understand the Chinese behavior in the USA environment.’
The seafood is good! A bit expensive!
