Visited this place while on an anniversary trip with my husband. We found this place on Google Maps and drove from Napa Valley to try the food.
My husband ordered the smothered chicken, mac-n-cheese and greens. The smothered chicken gravy was a bit too salty for our taste. I ordered the fried pork chops, greens and yams. Unfornately, the chops were over cooked and dry. The yams and greens were tasty. Mac-n-cheese and cornbread was okay.
Overall, I would give this place a second chance at redemption.

I tried this out because it had good reviews! If I could give negative stars, I would! Food was absolute GARBAGE! $30 for disgusting food. Mac and cheese was noodles mixed with velveta sauce! No real cheese and absolutely disgusting! The greens were 85% stems and not even edible! Tasted like they were cooked in a huge pot of vinegar and everyone in the restaurant complained about how disgusting they were. The fried snapper was over cooked with no flavor or seasoning. Corn bread was dry and disgusting. Yams were the only edible item I ordered but they were boiled yams thrown in a sauce of brown sugar and cinnamon!
After waiting 30 minutes and paying $32…. I am absolutely wondering how they are still in business!!! I can cook soul food 1000000x better !

I was telling my husband I was hungry so he went on Google and typed in soul food and we found house of soul and we decided to go eat there . It smelled delicious parking was rite in front even though it's street parking we parked out front. We can smell the aroma as we entered the restaurant. Really nice clean atmosphere. My husband order the fried chicken and Mac & cheese with yams omg might I add to die for. I ordered the snapper with yams and Mac and cheese. HANDS DOWN TO THE COOK DID HIS THA G..EWWWWW WEEEE and we definitely coming back.

Oh my goodness exactly the type of place I was looking for to satisfy my comfort meal craving! Catfish seasoning is crazy, I know fried chicken is popular, but not everyone can fry fish to perfection, and they do that every time. I went back twice in a week for the same order. Only reason why it's not 5 stars is because they're pretty bad at answering the phone. Don't order online though, apparently they don't get the order and I had to show them I paid for them to make the food. They told me to call next time, so I called 4x to place an order, I kid you not, and then ended up just walking in just to find only 1 customer waiting. So why couldn't anyone answer the phone to place my order! lol it's okay it was worth the wait but that can be improved upon. Go check them out though, soul food that's good and not in Oakland is rare ☺️??

I did a doordash from here this evening on July 17 th 2024 for ribs tips there was no meat iny plate bad ? and my rice and collard greens was throwed all over the plate they gravy was on the outside in the bottom of the bag it looked gross the kool aid was the only thing good very disappointed ?

It seems to be more focused on take-out orders (we ate in). Very generous portions. Very good country fried steak. Yams and green beans were yummy. We were bummed that they were out of collard greens, but the green beans were just as tasty.
