We’ve been searching for good Caribbean food in the area and had no idea this gem was here! The inside is stunning—modern yet cozy with a luxurious touch. The owner herself greeted us at the door with such warmth, letting us choose any seat, and her energy made the whole experience even better. She was welcoming, friendly, and kept us entertained the entire time.
I ordered the oxtail with rice and beans plus sweet potato, along with a tamarind drink—and wow, everything was incredible! The oxtail was so tender it literally fell off the bone 🤤.
My husband went with the jerk salmon, and let’s just say he couldn’t stop eating. He was practically licking the plate clean!

We came here looking for some authentic Caribbean food and that is exactly what we found in this hidden gem. Ruthie was extremely gracious and welcoming: The ambience inside of rhe restaurant is clean, refined and luxurious. The food is amazing! I had the jerk salmon and my wife had the oxtails. Both dishes were 10/10. I love this place, I will definitely be back. If you like authentic carribean soul food and an amazing atmosphere then come to Ruthie’s and get a little slice of heaven. ❤️🙏🏽❤️🔥

We had a delicious and fun meal! Ruth served us herself and made us feel at home. The jerk chicken melted our faces in the best possible way, and those fried plantains still have me drooling the next day. The restaurant is hiding in plain sight on a drab corner but go inside for a charming, welcoming atmosphere and some great food!

Tried this restaurant through Too Good To Go and got a jerk chicken plate. Very delicious and flavorful. I definitely want to try more menu items!

I really wanted to like this place, but my experience was deeply disappointing. The oxtail was shockingly bland — it tasted like it had been boiled in a mix of toilet water and regret. No seasoning, no flavor, no love. Easily one of the most tasteless renditions I’ve ever had.
The beef? That was a solid 0/5 — dry, flavorless, and barely edible. It shouldn’t have even made it to the plate.
The only thing that was remotely okay was the jerk chicken, which I’d rate 3/5. It had a bit of flavor, but nothing that would make me come back for more.
On top of that, everything was wildly overpriced for the quality. Soul food should warm the heart — this just left me frustrated and hungry. Ruthie’s Kitchen seriously needs to reevaluate their recipes , after spending $70 I’m on my way to in and out

FOOD IS OUTSTANDING AND SO IS RUTHIE
I just moved to the American Canyon side of Vallejo and several people advised me to avoid the downtown area of vallejo as it was deemed sketchy. I've long known that great food doesn't have to come from expensive great places, and Ruthies proves that point.
First off, the owner is front and center, knows her food and clearly has a passion for it. She was warm and welcoming and helpful guiding me to what dish I should choose based on my preferences.
As far as Caribbean food is concerned, I had limited exposure, basically jerk chicken. I went out of my comfort zone and had the oxtail (I've also never tried oxtail). Oh boy! It was amazing. Oxtail by nature has a good amount of fat in it, and is served on the bone. This could be a problem for some, but since this was clearly cooked low and slow, and with love, the meat falls off the bone, and the fat is so perfectly rendered it's just an explosion of flavor. Same goes for the rice and beans.
Nothing lacks flavor here and don't be scared if you think the food is going be too spicy. There is a difference between spiced and spicy and they will accommodate no matter what direction you want to go.
TLDR; I wish Miss Ruthie was my auntie

My friend got takeout ( red snapper) recently & I tried it.....All I have to say is they need a new cook. This is the worst Carribean food I've ever had. The fish was dry & tasteless, veggies were soggy & tasteless & the potato salad looked runny( did not eat). This was my 3rd time & it was not the charm😅
After spending money here twice, I knew it was not worth a 3rd! I love Carribean& Jamaican food & really would like to see a good restaurant here in Vallejo. The only thing good I ever had here was plantains & I make those myself.

More Than Just a Meal! What truly sets Ruthies Caribbean Kitchen apart is the genuine hospitality. Ruth and her team don’t just serve food—they welcome you like family. The service is attentive without being intrusive, and there’s a palpable sense of pride in every interaction. Located in the heart of the city. I highly recommend this place!

I’m absolutely appalled that they are passing off tortillas as roti! I was excited to not have to make roti myself and paid the price for this entree , only to be given a Costco tortilla, I guess they are taking advantage of California not having many Caribbean’s
