Ordered the korma with shrimp but got chicken instead which should have cost less. I paid $58 for the meal but it looks like it's $15 worth of food not worth it at all.

Love this little place. You can tell, the owner takes great pride in his little restaurant. (It’s a tough business!) He is incredibly friendly and hospitable, one of the nicest owner/chefs I’ve ever met & I’ve been to hundreds of Indian restaurants, all over the world.
Assam is a little ‘hole in the wall’ kitchen that looks like it could be for takeout only, but not true! The owner always comes out to meet & greet customers, a sadly dying custom. It is open late, until midnight, for theatre or concert goers, etc, which is a rare occurrence, as all surrounding restaurants are long closed. We were very grateful to find this place because we often eat late. And, after enjoying much East End London Indian Food, it’s tough to find anything close! This food comes very close! We order almost everything medium spicy, primarily shrimp & white meat chicken dishes. The owner/chef is always willing to accommodate, even if the dish isn’t typically made with such. And, he will suggest alternate dishes, if requested. The Biryanis are very tasty, as are the Chana Saag, Tikka Masala & Vindaloo or Madras (if you like spicy!). I prefer tomato based sauces, so we haven’t tried any cream based. Lastly, Mango Chutney & Garlic Naan (or any) are ‘must have’ accoutrements! ?️

Vegetarian options: Several

Dietary restrictions: Many vegetarian options.

Parking: Because we typically come late, we never have a problem finding parking nearby on the street. I’m not sure if they have a lot behind the store.

Kid-friendliness: There are red booths, with a very simple, down-to-earth atmosphere.

Wheelchair accessibility: Right off the main boulevard, there are no steps, inside or out.

We ordered online and wow... Four of us couldn't believe how bad this was. Not a matter of preference but objectively bad. Curry dishes are extremely watered down, not creamy at all, and excessively bland in taste. On top of it all, portions are very small. The 4.7 score is deceitful. Do not eat here.

This may be the most watery and bland Indian place I've ever eaten, and I've had dozens of places in the valley and around LA that are excellent, so it's not like this place doesn't have good examples to learn from.

We ordered delivery and got butter chicken, paneer masala, aloo gobi and a few apps. The aloo gobi was the consistency of water. It's NOT supposed to be a soup. The butter chicken and masala were so flaverless it tasted like adding cream with food coloring to our rice. The Naan, papadum, and raita were decent.

It's also elusively expensive. We ordered a $3 mango chutney which was the size of essentially 2 spoonfuls, and a 4 dollar extra rice was barely enough for one person.

First time and I must say we were so impressed!! Great hospitality and the food was amazing!! The chef even came out to explain the spices in the dishes. We are definitely gonna be regulars from now on. Highly, highly recommend.
