Our experience at Charcoal was extraordinary. The recommendations given by the staff opened a world of delicious options, and each one delivered on the expectations. We opted for a number of appetizers and shared main courses, which was a marvelous experience.
Diner LA was a huge disappointment. The service was very very slow and the food was way below average. We will not be returning.
Food is awesome. Noise inside is so loud you have to yell to be heard. Party atmosphere. Outside on the back patio quite the opposite. Quiet and calm. Worth going to.
The food in the Bay Area can be phenomenal, but there are exceptions to local everywhere and I highly recommend this restaurant for folks that are coming to Los Angeles and want a great place to eat. Yasmin took exceptional care of us and helped with our food selections. Love this place, a Venice original in every way. Robert C.
The food at Charcoal is always excellent. And service is typically great. We came in at 7 on a Sunday and it did feel a bit like we were forgotten in the back. Had to ask for water refills a bunch of times and request to order our food. But otherwise it's amazing. Will return.
Literally minds blown… the Bison Ribeye will absolutely take you to another planet. I will be back to try more, but will never NOT order the Bison Ribeye. The lamb ribs are an adventure I will continue to crave and wish upon my closest friends. The carrots and mushrooms are incredible. Don’t order the Cherry Parfait unless you’re ready for a seriously deep spiritual experience. Sara our server was the epitome of amazing and empowered even more awe in our evening. When a server cares and invests their attention and presence like Sara does it’s almost as though they’re in the meal with you. All around one of the most profound dining experiences of our lives. Thank you Charcoal! True true.
Best food. Love the lamb ribs, duck, burger, drinks, etc! Ambience is fun and beachy vibe. Friendly staff
A good variety of food options, including steak and seafood. I had the oysters, salad, and smoked salmon—each prepared to perfection. The only downside was the long wait between the appetizer and main course, which took around 45 minutes. Aside from that, everything else was excellent. The restaurant is also great for group parties.
Overpriced with average steaks, too many bells and whistles with not enough focus on the main attraction. 50$ steaks were ridiculously chewy and sinewy, worse than 5$ steaks from the store. Sides admittedly were quite nice but nothing exceptional and steaks were so poor it didn’t help. Probably good if you’re willing to drop 80$ on a steak but you’re still getting ripped off.
Group of 5, we waited over an hour and half for our food! Staff said it’s because the steaks are scheduled to come out together, it doesn’t take an hour to cook a steak! Some dishes came out cold and steak wasn’t good quality meat to start with. They also brought the wrong bottle of wine to the table, wasn’t until it was poured did we notice. They didn’t even offer a round of drinks when providing our feedback. Would never go back. (Review was based on visit over 1 year ago)

Not family friendly. This place is an absolute disaster for families! Our table is practically in the middle of a bar scene, with people getting wasted and cursing right in front of our kids. The management's response was a joke - "it should quiet down soon"? Are you kidding me? We packed up our food and got out of there as fast as we could. Never again will we set foot in that place.
The food and drinks were delicious. The service was great! It was just a little warm in that back table but besides that, my son's birthday celebration was amazing.
The food was excellent, but the ambiance was underwhelming. The space feels more like a Houston's chain than a unique dining experience. The makeshift back patio with astroturf wasn't particularly inviting either—though I will say it was quiet, which was a plus. I expect better for a Michelin restaurant.
Love the food! Really great!
The food? Phenomenal. The smoked and roasted duck was a total standout—tender, deeply flavorful, and kissed by just the right amount of smoke. Patrick went with the prime rib, and it was perfection—juicy, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to a beautiful medium rare. We also tried the oatmeal stout, which was dark and smooth, with roasty notes that tied everything together like a dream. And the sides deserve their own spotlight. The broccolini had this smoky depth with a slight kick of heat. Our server, Sam, made the whole experience even better—friendly, easygoing, and full of great suggestions. He never rushed us, and somehow made the evening feel both special and laid back. The rest of the staff was equally warm and on point. Charcoal Venice is that rare combo of unforgettable food, good people, and serious atmosphere.
