Who knew Shima was so divisive? The reviews are the classic Yelp bimodal distribution: either really good or really bad. It's almost worth giving five starts for so perfectly embodying how an establishment becomes a lightning rod on Yelp, with people having such different experiences as to appear they are dining at different places. We love this place. Yes it is not cheap, but worth the extra pennies. It is not so expensive that it falls into "splurge" category, esp since everything in Venice is pricey these days. Fresh and different options every time. We would def recommend a reservation bc space is small/limited seating etc

Iv never been a fan of the hand roll but this place has me convinced it's the best part of sushi meal. Now I have to drive to dtla for a good hand roll. Place is really small but looks like they are making a patio area. Oh and the icing on the cake is that the staff is extremely nice and friendly.
