Food ok but service is terrible. Terribly lazy staff. Will not go back here.

Man oh man! Our dog paid for this one, his name is Bruno and he’s a wonderful little Frenchie. If you see him, feel free to say what’s up. He’s very social.
Anyways, Wallflower is a vibrant and inviting Indonesian place on Abbot Kinney. The bathrooms are wonderful, the outdoor space is fun, and the inside looks magnificent.
The service is also really lovely. They’re very down to earth, passionate, knowledgeable, and helpful! Everybody seems really content.
Now - the main piece - the food!
The winner is always the duck lumpia. It is colorful, crunchy, savory, umami, it’s got it all! The papaya salad was great but it was a tad bit too spicy - it feels as though it should have been communicated that it might leave us a little bit singed. But great work nonetheless.
The only other thing we had was the Japanese curry. Which was good not great. Pretty good!
The DRINKS were the stars of the show. My girlfriend had all the gin drinks, and I had the bourbon, whiskey, and reposado (yes, I’m crazy!).
Anna’s thoughts: “south east-sider was the number one gin drink. Very fresh and yummy. Second best was the red envelope. Very interesting with the egg white and all around nice! Third place was the object of affection. Which sounded amazing. But kind of tastes like a fancy vodka cran? If you know what I mean.”
This is a fun spot to with good company. !

When “street” becomes chic.
I’ve always found it strange eating what’s essentially street food in an upscale setting—like having tacos at the Ritz. I grew up in Indonesia surrounded by this cuisine—on the streets, in stalls, restaurants, and even my family’s hotels—so I was a bit skeptical about trying Wallflower. My date insisted, and I’m glad she did.
The team here nailed the balance. Ambience, service, and food all work in harmony. The vibe feels modern and elevated without losing authenticity.
Highlights: the duck lumpia was excellent, and my date loved her papaya salad (a bit too spicy for my delicate palate). The beef rendang on its own was good but truly came alive when paired with the nasi ayam (chicken rice)—a perfect example of complementary flavors unlocking something special.
It’s true that Wallflower isn’t cheap—prices are higher than most Indonesian spots in LA, and portions are modest—but you’re paying for a refined experience, not just a meal. And in a city where dining standards have slipped post-COVID, Wallflower stands out as a welcome return to thoughtful, high-quality restaurant experiences.
If you’re looking for cheap eats, this isn’t it.
If you want elevated Southeast Asian cuisine done right, this is the place.

Horrible service, rude host and charged my credit card a no show cancellation fee even though I showed up for my reservation on time and ready to be seated. The host would not seat us in the same empty room as another party of 4 who had their reservation at the same time. The restaurant was only at 10% capacity at that time so there was plenty of room. We didn't care if we were seated inside or outside just in the same room and no requirement to attach any tables. Jacob so rudely said that his kitchen was not capable of serving two separate tables in the same room which makes no sense...how do you run a restaurant when you can't serve two tables in the same room??? When we told the host that if they could not seat us simply in the same room then we would not be dining there he had no care and basically said that's fine if you want to leave, however when we told him that we didn't want to get a no show fee on our credit cards he said he couldn't help with that and that we had to email the owner. We both emailed the owner and he never responded. My credit card was charged $175 and the other party $150 and the owner disputed it saying we never showed for the reservation which is a complete lie.

Very rude management. Charged a steep cancelation fee despite us calling and trying to come in a different time. Really tried to figure out a good middle ground but they were way more interested in just making an easy buck off cancelation than accommodating the life threatening event we had. On top of that - guy we spoke with was extremely rude, boasting how he no longer has a high cancelation fees and asking “are we done here”
Amazing, elevated Vietnamese in a very cool setting. We were treated well all around, and loved every dish. We ordered four items for two people, but we could have easily gotten away with three. We left with extra food, and a great experience. Well done.

Went here recently and was very satisfied. Group of 3 of us and we ordered quite a few different dishes to share. Portion sizes were very shareable and really well done. Loved the ribs and the beef. Fried rice was also great and would definitely go back to try more things on the menu

Hip Southeast Asian spot in Venice with a strong Indonesian vibe. Drinks and food were the highlight - the Lucky Star cocktail was my favorite (skip the wine - red and white).
Every dish we tried was flavorful. My group of five ladies basically demolished the spread 😂 we ordered Indonesian sauté with extra chicken skewer; Som Tam; Duck lumpia; Crab dip; Nasi Goreng; Sichuan beef; Pepes Ikan; Japanese curry chicken rice.
Prices were fair for Venice, and service was good, though not above and beyond.
Sorry I took no photos of dishes

My food and cocktail was genuinely some of the best I've ever had but the portions sizes for the price is very poor. I had the rendang mamuk with the nasi ayam rice. For $46 for the both (yes they are seperate, 42 for the meat, 4 for the rice), I felt the rice should've been included or have at least a bigger portion.

Incredible food. The whole fried branzino stayed crispy the entire meal and the accompanying salad was the perfect fresh counterpart. The drinks were vibrant and unique and paired well with the food. The outside seating area is draped with tons of carefully curated plants and flowers and is great if you don’t mind being near the sidewalk.
4 stars because the pricing is simply not competitive among comparable dining experiences in the area.

If you are looking for fun Asian fusion dining experience, Wallflower is a solid place. The food packs a lot of flavor and prepared very well. Our waitress was nice and friendly. Atmosphere is charming and they have some good outdoor space. It is a little pricey for the size of the dishes would be my only suggestion to correct. But overall is an excellent restaurant.

This place was such a pleasant surprise! We ordered 2 drinks and 3 food items (char kway teow, crispy Sichuan beef, and ayam goreng) plus both rices every single thing was amazing, not a single dud! Service was the perfect mix of let you enjoy your meal, but they check on you frequently enough that you never catch yourself wondering “where’s my server?” Will definitely be back!
