I ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp with rice and was so excited to taste it and Oh my god it is the worst I've ever had!! The sauce tastes like mayonnaise, NO honey or nothing more..Plus they put lettuce in it, yuck, doesn't taste good at all!!

Orange chicken came like this for takeout.. taste like it was a frozen orange chicken meal made in a microwave super bland very slimy…if you have experienced good Chinese food you will end up throwing this in the garbage as I did.. the white rice also is more on the harder side followed by non cooked rice grains.

Gourmet Oriental is my new favorite Chinese spot in Ventura. Tucked away off the grid in a small corner on Main Street, it’s the kind of place you almost miss if you’re not looking — shhh, it’s a secret local spot! If you're craving authentic Chinese food, this is where you want to be.
Their wonton and hot & sour soups are both amazing! I’m hooked on the chicken chow mein soft noodle, Kung Pao chicken, and tangerine chicken. You really can’t go wrong with anything here. The broccoli beef, mu shu pork, Szechuan boiled fish or beef, and Mongolian beef are also fantastic. And if shrimp’s your thing, try the har gow or any of the shrimp dishes, all winners.
Everything’s made fresh to order, so I recommend calling ahead. The staff is always friendly, and their prices are the best you’ll find anywhere in Ventura. Great lunch and dinner specials too! Gourmet Oriental is a total hidden gem and now my go-to for Chinese!

I dont know what these other reviewers are talking about with their 4 and 5 star reviews. I seriously question if they've ever had decent Chinese food. The food was terrible with a capital T.
We ordered for delivery and ended up waiting almost an hour and a half. Food was cold. General Tso chicken was NOT General Tso chicken (it shouldn't taste like mild teriyaki and it isn't loaded with broccoli and carrots) and the filing in the cream cheese wontons was so little they should be ashamed of themselves. You literally couldn't tell if some of the wontons even had cream cheese in them. Avoid at absolutely all cost.
