Great Central Steak & Hoagie

This is a taco place now. I know you're probably thinking not another taco place but it is bomb. The crapy parking is worth it. So yummy go try it ?

I got few 805 sandwiches, they supposed to have marinara sauce. I got a Philly cheese steak instead without them letting me know and the bag said N/S I am guessing for no sauce when that's why I asked for the 805 because it supposed to have marinara sauce! And a pastrami and honestly the Philly cheese steak looked like ground beef. I paid like $70 and we were very unhappy.

Good flavor of Pastrami Sandwich. Too salty every time. Way too much bread. Owner: you salt the meat, but forget the yummy pickles add even more salt. Lessen the salt a little, please. Tried one last time. Guess we’re back to perfect sandwiches in PH.

Sandwiches are huge. You've got to try the hot pastrami on a french roll. ?

Originally got the wrong sandwich so I had to drive back and get the correct one. Though I am very grateful the man gave me my money back and offered to remake my sandwich, it was a terrible sandwich. I can tell the man making it tried to compensate for my time and made it ginormous but the problem was that it was a tuna sandwich so it was super wet and I had to take out half the tuna just to be able to bite down. There was practically no lettuce, no oil or seasoning so it was just a wet, cold and soggy sandwich. I didn’t see the man who is usually there and after reading reviews noticed its under new management so it makes sense.

When the guy says he'll serve you at 1845 but won't....

Kind of miss the older guy that used to run the place. But the fact that the food got better (even the fries) I guess I'll learn to live with brightly smiling service I had to endure.

OMG OMG eat here asap really it will be your new most favoritest "yes I know that wasn't a word but it is now, just for here. I'm told everything is good the chicken sandwich is, amazing or so I am told. I haven't been able to get past the steak and cheese hoagie yet best french fries leaps and bounds above anywhere else! If you knew me you know I'm not prone to exaggeration and that holds true for this. I think normally he cooks the meat in the marinara sauce I'm not a big fan of marinara so I get it on the side. Two sandwiches and french fries will run you about 30 bucks just get one french fry it's enough for three people the price is actually very reasonable not only is it in line with anywhere else in town but it's a much better deal uses 10 oz of meat which is more than enough but if you like steak "who doesn't" you can get an extra 10 oz for $3.50 you will love this place thank me later

New owner - new and improved! Absolutely ? delicious delicious delicious!! Come to Steak and Hoagie for the total Philly Cheesesteak experience. Melt, cheesy meats and veggies grilled to perfection, piled high on pillowy bread.10/10

The meat isn't the same. Too much fat and grizzle, and the fries are different too. Maybe I'll try the one in Port Hueneme next time. So sad because this one in Ventura use to be so good, but not anymore ?

9-29-21: (last 3 pics) went to pick up two PMC sandwiches (expecting to have a similar visit like last time [see below] of deliciousness) but was disappointed this time. The sandwiches were not filled, half of the meat was still red, and there was a lot of fat; very chewy and bready sandwich. Again, mushrooms were scarce.Will go again and see what will be my final decision to keep on going.OMGoodness!! DELICIOUS! New owners = amazing sandwiches! I was skeptical about getting a sandwich here because the last time the sandwich was sad and the location in Port Hueneme was a disappointment as well. But yesterday( 8/8/21), the sandwich was mouth watering! The sandwich was longer and filled with meat. We ordered 2 PMC'S (Pepper, Mushroom Cheesesteaks) and fries. I added mayo instead of marinara sauce (got it on the side). I seriously couldn't believe my eyes, they were so huge. I was taken away just because the last two times were a disappointment, but then we also found out there are new owners. The fry bag was also filled! Just check out my pictures to believe it yourself. The only thing I can say wrong, is that I didn't see or taste any mushrooms, which is in the title of the sandwich name.

Best sandwiches in town! I have been eating their delicious sandwiches since I was a little girl. My go-to is either the turkey or the hot pastrami... Oh and I NEVER forget the side of fries.

My family loves visiting the thrift shops in Ventura. When we go I always convince them to get the best cheese steak bogies we've ever had. This "hole-in-wall" type restaurant is my favorite.We found it by asking some locals where they go eat lunch. I love local joints like this. Setimes it's crowded but worth the wait. Sandwiches are delicious, fries are perfectly seasoned and the staff are nice. I was pleasantly surprised with the facelift outside on a recent visit. Just go treat yourself to great food for a reasonable price.

I have been coming to this place for years... I was really bummed when i saw it was closed down during part of the pandemic, and I honestly thought it was never going to open again. So I was more than elated to see that they opened back up! It has new owners that are so friendly and very engaging with customers. You can see they aim to please! The staff is so helpful and always eager to satisfy. I know in the beginning they were anxious to get the perfect recipe for that award-winning sandwich that has kept this place in business FOR SOOO LONG! I even got to be part of some taste testing just by popping in at the right time. Comments, suggestions, and tips have been the forefront of them getting their recipe just they way the customers like it! Well all the hard work has paid off! Now after several cheeses, several types and cuts of beef, and all the other fixins... THE RECIPE HAS BEEN PERFECTED! I love the large quantities too! I either split it with a friend or get 2 meals out of it. And the avocado is so fresh and delicious! I think I am going to grab my punch card and go get one now...only 3 more punches and my next sandwich is free!

Delicious!!! Just passing through and decided to try it. The woman was super nice and our food was so yummy. My husband and older son are somewhat of a steak sandwich connoisseurs and they loved it all as well. Fries were superb and seasoned beautifully. If you like good Steak sandwiches , this place is on point. A must try. ?
