Every single time we're in Ventura or go through Ventura, we stop for the trip tip sandwiches they're BOMB

I have been going to this place about once a month for several years. I usually get the full rack of beef ribs. I was there yesterday and picked up my order about 3 o'clock. For the first time in years, the ribs were overcooked very tough and dry, the potato salad was excellent as usual. Service was perfect. I don't know if it was just because I was in between the lunch and dinner hours that the meat was so overdone. Hopefully this is a rare occurrence and will not happen again. I love this place!

No frills BBQ joint off the 101 in Ventura. This is my 2nd time eating here. This time I ordered the 1/2 bbq chicken. It was definitely not 1/2 a chicken. I had to ask where the breast was hiding. It was more like a wing quarter with one bite of white meat. Flavor was good though. Next time I'll include a pic and hopefully I'll be able to revise my opinion.

The tritips are my favorite here and are always cooked right. For the sides, although all are good,I'm stuck on the chili beans.

Marshall emphatically answers the question of "Where is the MEAT?" And, so well cooked. (They had their BBQ grill going in their front yard. Hot on the spot.) This place is one of the most "Down Home" joints I've eaten in many moons. Their best efforts are in the food, which is really appreciated.I stopped for lunch at 1pm, and most of the orders were take-out from the working folks in the area. That tells you most of what you need to know. They know which places are best. The eat-in-area is as it would have been in 1960, but who cares when the food is top drawer? I had the best TriTip with BBQ beans and cole slaw. Superb. If you are looking for the best BBQ in Ventura, I suspect this place is Top-3. I say that only because I have a few places yet to visit. I promise that you will LOVE the food here.

I got the tri tip sandwich with coleslaw. The service was fast. The facility was clean. The coleslaw was great. At first I thought my sandwich was on the smaller side but it was stacked with a lot of meat and the bread quality was great. I was surprisingly very full and satisfied after my meal. I was not the biggest fan of my meat but I didn't specify how I wanted it done. Next time I will make sure to specify how I want my meat cooked otherwise it was a great meal. I definitely recommend coming here!

Your food is great but your hours are ridiculous! Perhaps your location being so off the beaten path doygey you the traffic you could. But closing at 6 has stopped me from buying food from you MANY times!

If you are looking for a great place to get some BBQ this is the best around. The tri-tip sandwich with Mac and cheese is a great choice. A great plus is that you can by the BBQ sauce to take home and add to your favorite foods. Thank you Marshall for creating such a amazing eatery, your staff is amazing and the new recipe for the Mac and cheese is amazing. The only recommendation I would give is to make a loaded Mac and cheese, add some tri-tip and BBQ sauce to the Mac and it is to die for. Not to mention the flavor of the chili is great. The chuncks of tri-tip added into the chili is a great way to do it.Kid-friendliness: The resturante is made to look like a old western building which is great for the kids.

What has happened to our favorite local BBQ place?!! Our family used to LOVE the food here, and I would tell everyone that loves beef ribs about Marshall's. Seriously, I was a huge fan of Marshall's BBQ for years, until sometime around the past year or so. They have changed some of their recipes. Their mac n cheese was a favorite in our household, my kids could have lived off of it if I let them. All their sides, in fact, stood on their own and not just merely as sides. But now my kids won't even touch the mac & cheese, so dry and bland. When we drive past that big rooster, they ask if the mac & cheese is "back to normal" yet. I've brought it up to the workers, and they have confirmed the recipe has changed, and one person said she would report it. We have given them several tries since, but no more - dry pork ribs, dry jerky-like beef ribs, dry & bland mac & cheese, coleslaw now watery and no longer has pineapple bits like before, chili beans have lost bacon and flavor. I'm saddened by this negative review. Like I said, we were HUGE fans, and I was happy with my previous 5 star review. Their spicy sauce is still delicious and employees are still friendly, but these won't make up for bad BBQ. I'm hoping they go back to their roots, but for now we're still on the hunt for a new local BBQ favorite.

You know the food is good when you lick the plate after.... That is Marshalls! I have yet to find a better BBQ in the Ventura County area. When you drive by, you can smell the deliciousness! then when you walk up, you see them BBQing in the front. After ordering and receiving your food, you get to sit in BBQ Heaven. The meat is moist and savory, the sauces are flavorful and generous. The sides are so incredible. I got the Cole Slaw and it was so good, I actually unabashedly licked my plate for the leftover BBQ sauce and the Cole Slaw sauce.... It's like he put his foot in it and wiggled his toes.... It will make you wanna slap yo mama!

Excellent food. The ribs have a nice, smokey grill flavor - rich to the point where you'd probably be tempted to skip the BBQ sauce. But the BBQ sauce is really great and in a form not found as often in Southern California: it's tangy, thinner, and well seasoned. It tastes like a North Carolina or a Memphis sauce. The spicy version of their sauce is particulary enticing... you'll sweat but it'll marinate the food with an incredible additional punch that seems to bring out that smokiness. When you park and walk in you'll see them grilling the meats right outside the door. You'll go up to the counter and place your order and then get called back up to pick it up. Very simple but friendly service. Their garlic bread is good, but it's especially good for picking up the remaining sauce on your plate when you're done. The ribs are especially good and ordering a la carte seems to serve a family well. The potato sald has a universal appeal - it's flavourful, great when it's drizzled with some of the BBQ sauce, and the a la carte orders are ample. The sausage is truly tasty and clean - not greasy, which tends to be the catch with sausage in so many places. The cole slaw and the baked beans go great together - but especially good when you add BBQ sauce to this too. The crowing combination at Marshall's is truly great BBQ sauce and truly well made meats. On two visits you can tell that when it's busier your meat will have to compete for a little of that extra care - but, overall, it seems there is a consistent quality there based on the feedback you hear from other customers. The restaurant is a tad out of the way: this is a strength. It stands on its own, apart from many other eatieres, and is a simple, comfortable, at-home vibe of an environment. The kind of place anyone will feel is inviting and where you know the focus is on the food. Thumbs up. We went two weekends in a row.

I was actually looking for the old bbq place that was near where toy r us used to be and I found this place and holy smokes they are good!!! I wish I knew about this place sooner. My 1/2 rack of baby ribs was perfect and the sauce way too good. I will definitely come here again. The only criticism I have was maybe making the combo a little more clear to me. Plus I hate salads. I had macaroni salad for my side which was also homemade and tasty. I would have included a pic but yeah come here you won’t be dissapointed.
