Great baked goods but very poorly run and poor service. The gal that runs the front can’t answer any questions without lengthy holds and checking with someone else. Questions like “is my order ready?” Prepaid, finished and boxed orders and I had to wait in line for 40 mins to pick up!!!! Incompetent management. There should be a separate line for pick up but instead there is a line out the door that we all wait in whether we are getting things on the spot or we ordered and paid for weeks ago. People are sotting and waiting for pre pad orders! Very annoying and I won’t come back again.

I came to another business in the same plaza and parked in a spot that happened to be reserved for Le Gateau Elegant. I was sitting inside my car the whole time and would have moved right away if someone had asked.
Instead, the owner came out upset and blocked my car in without saying anything. It caught me off guard because it could have been resolved with a simple, “Hey, this spot is reserved.”
I’m not trying to hurt anyone’s business, but the way it was handled didn’t feel friendly or professional. A little communication goes a long way.

I can’t comment on the cake but the service was lousy. We ordered 2 cakes over a month back and were told to pick them up at a certain time. When we arrived they were not ready but that is ok, things happen.
What is not okay is to then keep us running back to the store to check every so often because we get further wrong times. First it was 5 minutes, then 30 minutes, then an hour…ended up being an extra hour and a half.
Each time we have to struggle to find parking Since the parking lot is not large enough to handle the traffic to the stores in the area.
We had a cake from here for our wedding 4 years ago and it was great but I don’t bunk I will be making the trek back.

Lafayette Park Hotel told me this is where they tell their brides to get their wedding cake. I thought it must be good! WOW was I wrong in that assumption. Even my husband who loves all things sweet wasn’t impressed at all. He said at that price we should’ve just went to Safeway or Costco. We had the carrot cake. I do not recommend this place, nor would I ever buy another cake from them but the customer service was awesome. However, the Piroshky’s next-door were amazing.

I think the wedding cake sample box was overpriced at $49.95 . It wasn't organized very well and the quality of the samples were lacking.

We have been using La Gateau for ages…since they used to be located in Martinez! We drive over the hill from the Richmond/Berkeley area to get specialty cakes here. They were able to accommodate a last minute (3 day notice) custom cake order the week of Mother’s Day, and the cake was a hit! They can do gluten free cakes, we used to get them for my mother. Definitely the best texture, taste of all the others we’ve tried. I sent my boyfriend to pickup this most recent order and put in a special request that he also bring home a couple of slices of Swedish Princess cake and a chocolate and raspberry slice. He said, ‘I think that princess cake was the best cake I’ve ever had.’ I would upload photos, but we forgot to take any, we dug right into the slices!!

We recently ordered a half sheet carrot cake along with a flourless chocolate cake for our 50th wedding anniversary party. The carrot cake was beautifully decorated in white roses along with gold leaves. But, the one thing that helped me make the decision to purchase from Le Gateau Elegant was the fact that the owner makes her own frosting from scratch. It was so much more enjoyable than the super sweet usual frostings found in other bakeries. The cakes were well received by our guests and I heard compliment after compliment. A friend who is gluten free said the flourless chocolate cake was the BEST she'd ever had! I agreed. Although this was my first time ordering at Le Gateau, it won't be my last! I highly recommend them for their quality, taste and presentation of cakes.
Came in to find different options of slices for my boyfriend’s birthday. Great service. Patient with me and my indecisiveness. I must say… Amazing quality cakes. Absolutely delicious. We enjoyed every bite. Even the petites were beautifully put together. I appreciate the time and love put into these cakes! Repeat customer for now on!

It is conveniently located in downtown Walnut Creek.? I came here for the first time to buy a cake for a friend's birthday party. The girl behind the cake display was pleasant and friendly. Everything looked sooo good, and like if it just came out fresh from the oven. ?"Fresh Baked" ? The only downside is that they don't have any Vegan opinions. But I asked for gluten-free and Yes! They do have some available! Yay!
