I went to my nephew's Birthday party.
A very busy spot on a Saturday. They are over working their staff. I feel bad for them. But they don't show it very courteous. Bravo to the whole staff.
Kid-friendliness: I Don't know. I'd take my kids but they're in my imagination. Less expensive that way

The service and atmosphere is great. The automatic 18% gratuity for all parties vs parties smaller than 6 was strange. As a former server myself, I think it's great for the staff for obvious reasons but unless you're actually looking at the bill carefully, you'll miss that part and double tip.
The food is super low quality. Neither of us were impressed. It was salty and tasted like it was frozen. We regretted it all the way home as it seriously didn't sit right and there are much better places to eat in downtown walnut creek.

Walked in for a drink last night and bartender told us “he didn’t know enough about Arizona ID’s” to serve my friend who had an Arizona ID…? How does anyone outside of California get a drink here by this logic? No chance the bartender knows what every single states ID looks like besides Arizona….? Train your bartenders, the bouncer and server were super chill though.
The staff is rude, they were treating the delivery guy with arrogant .

I have been here before since I moved to walnut creek 3 years ago. the food has been decent and their happy hour menu is a steal since it's the same portions as the regular meals but cheaper. And it's all day long.
Firstly, when I went to pick up the food, there were 2 waitresses passing by the table, and 2 girls managing take out orders. They were all right in front of me. It took one of the girls 6-7 minutes to even address me to see what I needed. I was left standing there not being helped at all. When someone finally did, all she did was hand the bag that was sitting there the entire 6-7 minutes to me. I don't think it takes very long to ask "are you here picking up?" and then hand me a bag in a total of 10 seconds. It took so long that I actually was making eye contact with one of the cooks and even he was looking over to the girls and wondering why it was taking so long. He looked like he wanted to speak up and tell them to help me since I was standing there so long without even being addressed!
I ordered the Orange Chicken and it's very spicy and doesn't taste sweet at all. I don't know if they gave me something else by mistake. We also ordered the Honey Walnut Prawns and the Pan Fried Wontons (4). Those had to be a joke. there was a total of 7 prawns and maybe 4 walnuts. And the Pan Fried Wontons (4) were extremely small and were actually opening up and the wrapper was flapping around. The wontons had to be smaller than 1.5". The Chow Fun was decent, there wasn't much actual chow fun though??? Mostly protein and very small amount of actual noodles. I've never had such poor service or quality of food before. I used to enjoy eating here but I don't think I'll go back again. I'll probably go back to Yan's Chinese Bistro and continue to eat at Dumpling Hours and Dough Zone for noodles and dumpling needs.

the food was rubbery chicken. a year ago.the service was 5 star. i paid $40 for rice and chicken that was a 2/10 or a 1 out of 5. my reason is that they need to improve their quality of food. waitress was nice, still overpriced, undercooked and chewy strings of old rubbbery chicken. disliked very much.

I have been to Modern China Cafe a number of times and I have always had a great experience every time I come. Whether it's for their all day happy hour special, their yummy desserts, or the late night drinks offered -- the atmosphere in this restaurant is comforting and something to be enjoyed with friends and family! They offer heated lamps outside for chillier nights and umbrellas for outdoor seating in the day as well. Check it out and you won't regret it!

Great food and service. We sat on the patio with a nice romantic firepit table. A great date night.

We went yesterday for Mother’s Day. Everything and I mean literally EVERYTHING seemed to be cooked in the same overly sweet sauce. Even the Mongolian beef was sweet too (and a bit spicy for some reason). Everything tasted the same whether meat, noodles or vegetables. I had absolutely no stomach for dessert at the ice cream shop down the street afterwards. Even Panda Express is tastier and more authentic Chinese food if you can imagine than this place and for 1/4 the price. Avoid.
