I recently had the pleasure of stumbling upon one of two outstanding hamburger joints...This one at the Palos Verdes Mall in Walnut Creek and the other one I hear on Oak Grove Road in Concord, is just as sensational... What captivated my attention when I walked in...was the sweetest and most attentive Asian waitress Sadonna, who could see I looked a little green and politely asked if she could help me and proceeded to find us a cozy table and made some great recommendations regarding the menu and what makes Mona's so special... First of all, when you come in the front door, there's a huge replica of the actual MONA LISA painting on the wall, along with some other, very cool signs and memorabilia, that take you out of the ordinary...into the extraordinary! What your humble narrator did not know, is that the reason this hamburger meat was so tasty is that it comes right from nearby Niman Ranch, where the cows eat better than I do...are only grass fed with no antibiotics and are never treated in any cruel or inappropriate fashion. I chose THE HAWAIIAN and my assistant chose MONA'S and we added a Big Basket of Skinny Fries and some refreshing Strawberry Lemonade! (Even the quality of the fries, with absolutely NO TRANS FAT...totally left the Golden Arches in the dust!) I understand that the owner is a Very Happy Man and why shouldn't he be...when he has figured out how to produce the Finest Hamburger in Contra Costa County at an affordable price and in an atmosphere that begs you to come back for more! I am a long time customer of Monas. As of today, I would recommend that you ONLY order to go and not use table service. Despite only three customers at 4 pm they staff found time to chat among themselves and not wait on customers. I was overcharged for Happy Hour and got attitude when I noted the price difference from the regular menu. I asked for a box for my half eaten turkey burger (not Happy Hour). and instead my plate was thrown away. When I was recognized as a regular customer, all I got was "sorry". No price adjustment or future credit. The burgers are good. Service is not.

My son and I decided to try Mona's burgers because I've heard great things about their burgers. Unfortunately I was not too happy about. We ordered three hamburgers two being medium well and one medium rare. The two medium well was really burnt on the outside and dry in the inside. And the medium rare was burnt too on the outside. I tried calling to speak to the manager but unfortunately the person that answered the phone said he does not come and if he does it would be around 4,5 or 6pm. He said he's the owner so he doesn't come most times. So there was no manager but him to talk to cause he's in charge. Tho we ate the burgers cause we live in Martinez and we were already hungry.. we will not be coming back. The pickles, reticent and tomatoes that came on the side were also lumpy looking and not crispy and did not look fresh. Very disappointed and will not come back.

Service was excellent - friendly and quick. The waitress was proactive in asking it we wanted a joint check or separate.Food arrived quickly, was fresh and delicious!We sat outside on the patio, but had one of the heaters nearby.We will definitely be back!Vegetarian options: We had a vegetarian in our party who felt he had plenty of options to choose from. They will make any of the burgers, vegetarian, if requested.

Despite positive reviews and a recommendation from a Facebook food group, I was unfortunately underwhelmed. We ordered 2 burgers, a small truffle fries (although a large came out and we were charged for it), and a strawberry lemonade (they also brought out a Coke that we didn't order); that's two things wrong out of 3. I'm not sure if the guy was new or what happened. The best thing was probably the strawberry lemonade. The burgers didn't have much flavor, and the truffle fries didn't have too strong a truffle flavor either. What was also odd was the cheese in my truffle burger. It was supposed to be goat cheese, but definitely was not. Goat cheese does not have that stinky smell certain cheeses have, but whatever they put in the burger did. You can even see in the picture that big slice of cheese that is different than what goat cheese typically looks like. Other than that, the service was pretty good, and the ambiance was nice. There wasn't anything special about the food that would draw me back though, unfortunately. It may be worth it for happy hour?

Mona's is the place to go if you want the perfect burger! I have been coming here with friends and family for over 5 years now. My favorite thing to do here is sit in the lovely little porch area that they've created outside. Their portions are HUGE and I always end up with leftovers. The servers are prompt and kind, and food arrives pretty quickly. I've gotten most of the burgers and shakes on the menu, as well as the fries, onion rings, and tenders. Everything is delicious, but the garlic fries are a must that I get every time! Their burger selection is quite extensive and there is something for everyone. Do yourself a favor and have a delicious meal at Mona's!

Stopped for lunch and what a bad experience. Ordered Mona burger and asked for it to be cooked medium/well. When it was served it was red and mushy hamburger on the inside . I showed it to our waiter and asked if that was medium/well? His response was curt. He stated "that's the way we serve them" and he walked away. About 10 minutes passed and a second waiter came to our table and offered to put the burger back on the stove. No thank you and I will not be back any time soon.

Our burgers were overcooked. "spicy fries" aren't spicy, just "seasoned." Service was inattentive. Credit card surcharge was a surprise add-on after we paid - should be part of the bill and deducted if paid in cash. Mona was not smiling on us.

Great food, I always get the chicken classic with fry's, just chicken no bun. I've been eating there for 3 years now and every time I went I've never had a bad time. Tables are a little sticky but not a issue at all. Great service to. It can be a little expensive but you know what your paying for so it's fair too.
