I loved this place - sad to learn it's gone. It had it all. Great service, great food, and great ambience. Everyone was always super welcoming and I was rooting for them. Congratulations on running a restaurant that filled a sorely missing niche in WC, a tough task. I wish this team the best in the future.
SO SAD!!! Are you guys closed? I LOVE YOUR FOOD!
Based on then narrative on the website, we had expected authentic Malay, Indonesian dishes. Seriously disappointed with the way the food was rendered. I understand a level of localization, but to change the basic flavor is unacceptable. For example, the Beef Rendang was actually sweet! The service was spotty with requests having to be made multiple times - this on a slow night. Only 3 of the 8/9 tables were occupied.
Cozy modern restaurant with delicious Indonesians / Malay cuisine. Beef stew with rice was hearty and filling; simple and elegant, a bit spicy, as expected. Breakfast special that wife ordered was also sumptuous, bit of fishies, fried chicken, blue rice hit the spot. Chewy mochi style waffle to finish and a highlight. Solid service all around though host might be a bit gruff at first.
TASTELESS OVER PRICED HYPE
Vibes fasho food was fire drinks were fire 100% gangsta
This place was super nice. The staff was really really friendly and kind. I forgot our server's name but I know it started with a p and she was just great! That Kopi Avocado drink was so freaking good. I would have took a picture but I was too busy enjoying it and savoring the moment 😂
If you're craving nasi goreng and beef rendang, this is a good spot to satisfy your taste buds. The wine list is adequate but not exceptional, and while the service is friendly, it's noticeably slow. Unfortunately, the table we sat at was wobbly, and the menus were dirty, adding to an overall sense of disorganization. They seem to genuinely try, but there’s room for improvement. Skip dessert here and head over to Lottie's instead. For a date night, be sure to request a table at the front—it's quieter and more intimate compared to the back, which is bustling with families and children. Overall, it's a promising start, but significant improvements in service and attention to detail are needed.
Wonderful dinner experience! Great cocktails and the food is well prepared and flavorful. Favorites were: chicken satay, nasi goreng, deng deng sando, farmers market gado gado, mussels in gulai sauce and nusa cocktail
Unexpectedly good taste of South Asia.

I debated between a 2 or a 3, but went with a 3 because of the friendly staff.
We made a reservation for a brunch on a Sunday. We didn't realize the farmers market and outdoor market were going on at the same time so parking was a challenge. When I called, they were very understanding and told me not to worry at all.
As soon as we sat, we were informed that none of the chicken dishes, including the fried chicken sandwich and the side order were available. It was a good 1/3rd of their menu. Bummer because we were all really looking forward to trying the chicken and waffles.
We all ordered the kopi avocado and a pitcher of the pineapple mimosa. I really enjoyed the creaminess of the coffee, and the mimosa was fine.
We then started with the Birds nest roti chanaj and the green shakahuka. Both dishes were good and really flavorful, especially the chickpeas (side that came with the roti). The toast that came with the shakshuka was partly burnt, however.
For our main entree, we ordered the burger, dengdeng sando, and the nasi goreng set with an extra prawn since there were 4 of us. About 15 minutes after we placed the order, we were then informed that they were also out of the dengdeng sando. Annoyed that most things on their menu were not available on a Sunday at noon, we just stuck with the nasi goreng and burger for our entrees.
The burger was fine, it wasn't anything special, but it did come with barely warm fries that I asked to be re-done because there's nothing I hate more than cold fries. The nasi goreng came out with only 3 prawns. The server did acknowledge that the 4th one is still coming, but it still took more than 10 minutes to come out that we decided to just cancel it. The rice part of the nasi goreng was good and flavorful, but the prawns were definitely overcooked.
Finally, we had the kaya stuffed french toast for dessert and that too had good flavor, although I couldn't really taste the coconut.
3 stars is mostly for the friendly service and good flavor. But a restaurant not having quite a few of their entrees available, and food coming out cold are deal breakers for me. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be coming back to Sandai anytime soon.
Great food and service. Short ribs were amazing.
Only giving a 1 star because it’s the lowest. If I can give half a star I would.
Don’t get fooled by its ambiance.
Food was not something to brag about. Maybe it was because we waited over an hour for our food( received burnt food). On top of that our server ( Jorge ) completely ignored and by passed us many time after we order, our party had to flag another waitress down to notify them that our food has not arrived. 4 tables seated after us received their order and left by the time we got our food. How they handled the situation was not very customer service friendly.
I will not recommend coming here ever, even for a cup of coffee.
Management team, please train your staff to be more resilient.
Went for brunch 11/16. It definitely isnt your traditional Indonesian meal but the flavor is all there. Its pretty pricey but we actually thought it was worth it as Ive been wanting to try this place for so long.
The gado gado was very nicely flavored with an assortment of seasonal vegetables that I was initially reluctant in but it ended up being very well balanced. The nasi lemak was very nicely balanced as well.
The service was excellent and the waiters were very attentive, and brunch was served very quickly.
I enjoyed the kopi avocado as well. It is creamy with a touch of sweetness, which again…. Was perfectly balanced!
Overall its pretty pricey for lunch and not traditional indonesian food but the indonesian flavors and there and are wonderfully fused with California fare.
Damn, what a shame.
Came out here to support my people.
Was told we would sit in 10 minutes.
Didn't sit until 30 mins.
Then didn't get greeted or get water for another 15-20 mins.
No communication or updates.
The lady kept mean mugging us and didn't bother acknowledging us at all.
No water was served at all.
We had to ask a couple of times.
The table across from us had to get their own water from another table because they didn't receive any.
Never seen that happen. Not surprised though considering they weren't attending to us or a couple tables.
The sad part is, we walked out because they never acknowledged us when we were sat, they said 10 mins but lied to us, and there's no communication.
If you're looking for a spot to celebrate anything this ain't the place.
Would I come back tomtry again?
Maybe but only if the manager and restaurant acknowledges our complaint and resolved it.
For now, we're good.
The food looks good but the service and communication is non existent.
I really hope they figure this out as a team.
