Love everything about Shadowbrook winery. It's a hidden gem tucked right in the Northgate neighborhood. The ambience is stunning just like or better than any other upscale winery in Napa. This last visit we had dinner sharing the special short rib, the Burrata appetizer and the avocado salad and everything was delicious. Love that you can purchase just a glass or a bottle or even a beer if you're non-wine drinker. It's our go to spot when we have friends come in from out of town.
For my birthday, I decided to visit Shadow Meadow Winery, and initially, the appearance and overall setting were exactly what I was looking for. The property was beautiful as we pulled in—very scenic and inviting. Parking was okay, though it was quite dark with limited lighting. Still, from the outside, it gave the perfect vibe for a special occasion. However, once we walked inside, the atmosphere changed. Despite the beautiful setting, the interior felt cold, empty, and uninviting, which was unexpected given how welcoming it appeared from the outside. We were greeted fairly quickly, though the interaction felt like we were an inconvenience. The host gathered my information and asked where we would like to sit. We initially chose a table near the fireplace, which was lovely. After realizing we would be ordering food, we asked to be reseated. Unfortunately, the new table was off to the right in a corner and not an ideal spot. The service continued to fall short. Our server, Andrew, did not greet us for about 15–20 minutes. During that time, we were only given one menu for three people. When Andrew finally came by, we mentioned the lack of menus, but additional menus weren't brought until we asked him directly. One person in our group expressed interest in the Petit Syrah, while the other two were still reviewing options. Andrew said he would be back, but instead returned with an entire bottle of Petit Syrah that we had not ordered or agreed upon for the group. By the time we were finally able to properly review the menu, we decided to order something small, as the experience was already off to a disappointing start. It was unfortunate because the winery itself is beautiful and has so much potential, but the lack of warmth and attentive service took away from what was meant to be a special birthday outing.
The setting is absolutely lovely. I felt like we were in wine country and yet it is so close to downtown Walnut Creek. The staff were friendly and informative. We never felt rushed.
Beautiful winter day at Shadowbrook! Great wines, service and food! The crab dip is delicious!
Whats a beautiful property, personal I enjoy the view to the Mountains diablo, of course wine and food was unbelievably. For sure I will come back again.
Great ambiance and perfect weather made the experience even better . Host was attentive and checked in on us several times , which my sister and I appreciated .
This private winery is nestled just below Mt. Diablo with beautiful views of the vineyards. We tried the wine flights (dark and light) and we loved them both. My personal favorite was the Malbec (dark) and the Rose (white). We arrived at 3pm for Saturday brunch and the vibe was amazing. We ordered the Halibut and the special of the day, duck. Halibut was a bit on the dry side but the duck was spot on. Overall, great vibes and energy from the staff. We'll be back again !
My husband and I visited Shadowbrook Winery in Walnut Creek this past Sunday afternoon, and we absolutely loved our experience! We don’t live too far, so we decided to stop by and we’re so glad we did. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the hostess, and our waitress, Kristian, was amazing! She was so knowledgeable and descriptive, helping us choose the perfect wine flights since it was our first time truly visiting a winery.
Being from Miami, we’re still exploring the East Bay, and this spot was such a gem. It was scenic, relaxing, and the weather was perfect. The sunset was stunning, and the nearly full moon made the view even more magical.
This was our first real wine-tasting experience, and we both left with a much better understanding and appreciation of different wines. We can’t wait to come back! 🍷✨
First time at Shadowbrook and the staff was exceptional.. We had a reservation at 6pm, we only wish we could have made it sooner in order to walk the grounds a bit before dinner.
I was there with friends to celebrate my birthday! It was a beautiful fall day, Kristen took great care of us and the winery vibe was beautiful. We are so lucky to have the special place so close to home.

Okay, so this place is amazing. It is a bit of an expensive evening all told, but it was truly worth it!! The setting is beautiful, peaceful, and comfortable. They have heaters, great outdoor lighting, and a lovely view of Mt. Diablo. Our server was super nice, personal, professional, and knowledgeable. We started with a wine tasting flight which was super. We loved all three of the glasses. We enjoyed the jalapeño cornbread. Crazy good. Then we had a beet salad as our starter. It was unique, beautiful, and delicious. For main course we got the halibut. It was cooked to perfection and delicious. We finished the evening with the chocolate mousse. Wow. Everything from start to finish was outstanding. It was more than a dinner out. It was an experience. Please go and don't hold back. You will love it!
We went for the wine tastings and atmosphere to celebrate, but the food was surprisingly fabulous. Terrific chef!
Great dinner and wine on our recent visit. The Brussel sprouts were amazing and the chicken parm and halibut were excellent! A couple glasses of Jon Rae wine were the perfect complement. Another outstanding visit to Shadowbrook!
Absolutely amazing! The food is incredible and so unexpected since we came here for the great ambiance and wine. Highly recommend! Best date night place in Walnut Creek
I thought the ambience good and wine were great. Wasn't happy with the service we received. It was my first time going, taking a friend out for a birthday dinner. We ordered a bottle of bubbly and cheese plate. Both were overpriced, but I was prepared to pay for a nice meal to celebrate my friends. After those were delivered, we weren't checked on. Would have loved to know about the cheese I was eating, because it was delicious. We refilled our own drinks from the bottle. We had to ask for a food menu back, because we're planning to get dinner. Barely made last call for food, which we had no idea about since no one told us/checked in. We weren't able to order any more wine to go with our meal. Our server must have realized he ignored us, because brought us a splash of wine that “he would have had to throw out anyway”. A nice gesture, but a little late. When we checked out I realized 20% tip is automatically included. It made me feel like service quality doesn't matter because you have to tip anyway. Wish it would have been better. I did enjoy the food, wine, and scenery and was willing to pay, but felt like the lack of attentiveness made it overpriced and not a place I feel I need to revisit. Hope this helps them work on more welcoming and informative service for guests, especially first timers.
