Why doesn’t every library have a cafe!? Wonderful little cafe where the friendly owner serves customers cheerfully. It has in and outdoor seating and fair prices. It’s right next to Civic Park in Walnut Creek, so you can also take your purchases and picnic in the park.

Never order anything from this cafe. Went here with my handicap brother and the owner asked him to leave. Said he was taking up space for other customers eventhough the place was empty. Extreme rude and disrespectful, also saw flies on the food. Zero stars.

Formerly known as the Walnut Library Cafe, Maroof is the new owner of Zartara Library Cafe. As you walk in, he greets you with a friendly hello and smile. It's small, quiet, and perfect for a snack, or grab and go coffee, breakfast, or lunch. If you enjoy Peet's coffee, this is the spot to get it! There's snacks from candy to chips and granola bars. Or you can have Maroof make you a sandwich, salad, breakfast burrito, hot dog, etc. I've been here twice now and can't believe after all these months of working across the street I did not know it had so many options on their menu. I hope you decide to check it out, even if it is just for a coffee or tea. Gotta support small businesses!

Check the real website, not yelp, for the current hours. I arrived there this morning at 10:10, picked up my book on the hold shelf & tried to check out. A male librarian abruptly stopped me & almost kicked me out without allowing me to check out my book -- offering no explanation. I told him I needed the book, I would be happy to check it out myself, he didn't have to help me. Instead, he found another female librarian -- much nicer! -- who explained that they were not yet open due to covid. Told her this site said they were & the sign on the door said to use the "side door," so I did. She did check out my book for me, but good grief!

A great place to work from home, study or take the kids. Located in the heart of Downtown Walnut Creek, the Library neighbors the park and is to close to many places to dine. The library itself has nicely manicured grounds while the atmosphere inside is artsy, clean and quiet. There is a large kids reading area and plenty of help staff, if needed. Best of all, there are lots of working tables with lights and plugs for computers. There is ample paid parking, street parking is heavily monitored for ticketing (be careful parking on the street).

I would give 5 stars because this is a lovely library and so far all my other experiences with it have been positive, but I just had an upsetting experience that I feel compelled to share about here.I went into the little bookstore to buy a book and the ladies working the desk were in the midst of talking about poor people in a way that, shall I say, reflected their privilege. And despite the fact that I have the appearance of someone in poverty, they continued their conversation the whole time I was there, very much within earshot of me. It wasn't the worst I've heard by any means, but it definitely wasn't cool and it definitely didn't make me feel good about coming back here. I know library staff mistreating the poor is commonplace in this country, but if a poor person can't even go into a library to spend money without hearing about how much the staff resent and fear us... I know Walnut Creek is a rich town, but come on.Edit: I also feel compelled to add that part of why I think they didn't really register me as someone they shouldn't be saying those things in front of, despite my obvious poverty, was that I am white and they are white, and even though they never mentioned race directly, some of what they said made it seem like they didn't really have poor white people in mind. Just throwing that out there...

Beware if you go to this library, and there are perpetrators who frequent the library and will take pictures of your personal documents and then post them publicly on the internet as well as send them to people whom you will have no idea that they got these peoples' email addresses or linked them to you. This just happened to me. Upon learning of this (the perpetrator sent me text messages), I immediately contacted the library. I spoke with Richard there who could not have cared less and referred me to Brooke Converse (800) 984-4636. Brooke is supposed to be the "Public Information Officer"/head of administration of the county libraries. After several screening calls with people who answered the telephone ("can I tell her what your call is pertaining to") I was transferred to her voicemail and left her a detailed message with my contact information. That was a week ago. Brooke has yet to return my call. This is how much the library cares about its patrons and the criminals it lets into its library.Thank goodness the police were helpful and interested. Officer Borman even followed up with me twice. So classy and very much appreciated. Nothing from the library - where the acts took place, even having contacted the head of library administration for the country. So beware.
