I like how the place was updated. Service was great. I ordered basic eggs & potatoes and it was ok - has anyone ordered a more complex meal which stands out?
The food is great and the service was also great
Average family restaurant. I was surprised that they wouldn't let me substitute fruit for the eggs that I didn't want with my meal. You would have thought I was in a high end restaurant that didn't allow substitutions. Service was great initially, filling our coffee frequently but once our meal was served, hospitality went down the drain.
Eggs Benedict had hard poached eggs.
Food is great but the service sucks
Love this place.
Waited forever for a cup of coffee and they never gave refill. Food was cold.

????Worst service I have had in a long time, the server José took an hour to bring our food, then to say the kitchen just informed him that there is no more Menudo. Then, to make matters worse, our waiter has not come back to take my order, and my family is almost finished with their food. My mom is still waiting for the tortillas, and she is almost finished with her dish. I should have known this place was no good. I asked for cafe de olla, and our waiter José said they ran out.
When they sat us down, they came over and asked us to move to another table. We said sure.
We keep trying to flag him down, and he is ignoring us.
Thankfully, the female waitress came to take my order and make sure to take the Menudo off our bill.
What they should do to accommodate me as a customer is to give me my meal for free for this inconvenience of not having the food and drink I ordered and the long wait.
It's been another 30 min wait for my second dish. Still no food and José our waiter is blaming the long wait on the kitchen.??????
Another note is that the ladies' restoom is dirty, with no toilet paper and paper towels.

Went on a Sunday morning 9ish , the place was busy, about 18 min. To be seated
The breakfast burrito was on the small side (for price), a small amount of salsa given.
The salsa was delicious, just wish there had been more of it.
The waitress brought coffee on one occasion and next time I saw her she was bringing me my bill.

Went on a Saturday. Wait was over an hour to be seated . Many patrons waiting to be seated were making jokes about leaving or is this place even worth it. Server was distracted or disinterested in bringing us flatware , or even refilling water glasses . Had to keep asking her for water , that is when she wasn't obviously ignoring our attempts to get her attention. Waited another 30 to 40 minutes for a bowl of menudo and French toast. Though same orders around us received theirs within ten minutes.
Had to point out on the menu three times for French toast. Then the server also pointed on the menu at the French toast. She wrote it down , walked away , then came back to ask us again what we ordered because she forgot . Menudo was filled with tripe , perhaps a bit too much tripe, and hardly any hominy it . Just a sprinkle of toppings were given to accompany the soup . Broth was delicious . Biscuits and gravy are over priced considering they don't add any sausage to the gravy. $7 for two small doughy biscuits and meatless gravy.

In the spirit of infamous businesses that go above and beyond for their customers, Penny’s staff fully embodies and crushes it. Not only did we have amazing waitresses during our visit (my wife specifically whispered to me how awesome our waitress was), but after not noticing my forgotten wallet, a staff member hand delivered my wallet to my home. All contents of my wallet were intact and I’m really thankful to the wonderful staff. Integrity is alive and well with Penny’s.
Oh BTW Penny’s is a great traditional American diner with a Mexican food twist. Great cafe de la Hoya.

good atmosphere, nice wait staff (need to be more attentive but good) - food was tasty and cafe de olla was balanced with cinnamon/sugar flavor.
hash browns were perfectly seasoned - so yummy! i ordered mine w/ cheese but it was not needed.
