Food is delicious but waitresses took forever to refill water or ask if we wanted anything else and also took forever to bring us our check

On our first night in LA we stopped here for dinner and what a cool venue for dinner! Our server was lovely and the food was delicious - they have little juke boxes on each booth where you can select music to play from your table!

Quick note, the hours on their website are not accurate. I came into the restaurant and was greeted by an aggressive waitress who stated they close at 10pm and she was no longer seating people. (website states 11pm). She told me that was only on the weekend, which is not true, website did not indicate any days. I got to the restaurant at 9:30pm. She told me I could not be seated and that I had to place a to go order and the last orders are taken at 9:45pm. This did not make any sense as 1. They were still open 2. I could have been seated and had an order placed before the 9:45 cut off time. This wasn’t just done to me it was done to multiple people before and after me that were waiting for food or trying to be seated. I placed an order and ate in the parking lot. I have been to this location many times and have never experienced anything like this. The website needs to be updated, the sign on the outside of the restaurant needs to be removed because they are in fact not 24 hours. And their night crew needs to be trained on customer service and hospitality.

So, this place is pretty amazing considering its a historic landmark (or definitely **should be** on the registry there). Its been in tonnes of movies incl. American Graffiti. But on its own, great menu, Diet Cokes are deliciously crisp and in a 20oz cup (heck yeah!) The Patty Melt is goated (i remember them back in High School and hanging out with my friends at this and the Hollywood location -- i think the other is open later if memory serves). The second time in two days, i took my friend, Deannine, here because she had never been and she loved it. Janet suggested the Sweet Potato fries over the regular and that was **clutch** --- i wish i had had that option rather than the regular fries (you live and learn, i guess). Anyway, thank you for two great meals here that were within walking distance to the hotel.

Good burgers in a period restaurant! It is an old style diner, but the food is fresh and pretty quick given how many customers there were.
I love an old school diner, so I decided to go to Mel’s for lunch while visiting Hollywood. Parking was a bit of a hassle (mainly because I was being cheap), but after taking a few loops around the area I found a meter! For lunch I got the grilled cheese, sweet potato fries, and a vanilla coke. Food was exactly what I was looking for and the staff were friendly. While there, a celebrity was eating lunch with his family. I won’t name names, but swing by Mel’s for a good meal and a possible celebrity encounter!
i sat there for 20 minutes and was not served once. no waiter came to me or nothing. me and my girlfriend sat there waiting and watched 2 different groups get served before us… why?

Very nice retro Mood. Service a bit long. Pretty good dishes, with a good Price quality ratio for the location. Service ok.
Restaurantji Recommends
I wouldn't recommend a place that let's the employees harass businesses across the country via social media for their opinion... so on that aspect I wouldn't recommend this place
Good food. Classic.

The nachos are spectacular, yes, if you don't like cilantro, ask for the sauces separately.
The pancakes tasted too much like dough, we didn't like them very much.
In general the food is expensive.
Very cool decorated place.
