We went to Melody for their pop-up and tried all three tacos they had for $3 each on Taco Tuesday. Great price for such high quality ingredients! Would definitely eat again!Potato Taco: 5/5This was the surprise winner! Such good flavors!Fish Taco: 4.5/5A solid and flavorful fish taco! My tiny critique is that I wish there was a bit more fish.Barbacoa: 2.5/5Meat was cooked well but it was not as flavorful compared to the other two - would not get again and instead would replace my third taco with the fish or potato!

Great pop-up Tacos. They keep it real with the fresh blue corn tortillas. Very upscale style with fresh ingredients. I was actually blown away with the fresh guacamole, the nectarines give it something extra. I am a sucker for a potato taco and they did not disappoint, super delicious. The jack cheese Quesadilla was also delicious. Great team, and delicious food. We hope to see them around again.

At long last, we were able to attend the Metztli crew's popup at Brain Dead Studios and WOW were we impressed. The potato taco was stellar, the beef cheek birria taco was bomb, and the shrimp tostada was fantastic. Such well balanced flavors, very purposeful, and visually stunning to boot. The operators were incredibly friendly and humble, I hope they have more frequent popups in the very near future. Can't wait to try the rest of their menu!

Their popup at Benny Boy was super tasty. The potato taco is outstanding and was one of the best, most unique tacos I have ever had.

Funny enough, I first had the chance to try one of Metztli's tacos a few months ago, when Rose Park on Pine was between food menus, and just had pastries, coffee, and occasionally hosted brilliant popups like this one (I wasn't even that hungry that day, I just had to try one of their tacos while I was there for coffee, they looked so good!) - then a few weeks later, Rose Park restarted their own (highly recommended!) food menu. So I was very excited when a couple months later, I discovered they'd entered the fairly regular rotation at Rosemallows, a great local bar that had *also* paused their food program mid-pandemic in exchange for hosting popups for the "indefinite future" - I caught back up to Metztli a few weeks ago (before things got busy for the holidays) at Rosemallows, and tried a couple more of their tacos. I figured they'd be back there a couple times a month, so there wasn't any rush to try their whole menu... anyway, Rosemallows also just announced, earlier this week, they have a permanent food menu again. Good for Rosemallows, but hopefully Metztli finds a new place in DTLB to visit for 2022! I saw people eating mulitas and they looked amazing, I'd really like to get to try them sometime! (Metztli, if you see this and you want ideas of places in Long Beach that might be interested, I could give you a couple. :p) I suppose I don't need to describe the specifics of their already-outdated partnership with Rosemallows and what I had to drink with the tacos (a local craft beer, probably), nor how long it took my order to arrive (not very long at all!), but being they're still a pop-up shop, I imagine I'll see them again eventually and with a similar enough food menu that reviewing the food menu still seems relevant. In any case, the menu they had when I caught them most recently at Rosemallows, had two tacos, a $6 brisket taco and a $5 potato taco, and two larger and pricier items. I wasn't sure how large they were, but wanted to try more than one thing, so I got one of each of the tacos. (Incidentally, as far as "large" goes, I was full after the two tacos, though I definitely *would* have eaten more tacos anyway if they had been in front of me, given how good they were! I didn't get to try the mulita, but it looked like it was about 2 tacos worth.) First off, any place that uses real, hand-pressed, thick, weighty tortillas instead of the flimsy store-bought "corn tortillas", automatically has my attention, and the tortillas they use are very good! (Still not the best I've ever had, but the best tortillas I ever had were from a restaurant that no longer exists, so that's not a very fair comparison!) As far as toppings, the brisket taco was quite flavorful and had plenty of meat on it, with a great sauce, I enjoyed it for sure, and would totally get it again... but the potato taco really was the star in my opinion. Granted, mostly because I'm a s***** for anything completely covered in cheese, which is the best possible description for the potato taco, but the potatoes in it were surprisingly flavorful for potatoes, too, the exact opposite of the mushy deep-fried mess I think of when I think of a "potato taco". Don't get me wrong, that style is great too, but the potato tacos from Metztli are something special and unique. Truly a mind-blowingly tasty taco. And for how large and how filling (and how good!) they are, totally worth $5. Anyway, hopefully they come back to Long Beach and I get to try the rest of their menu eventually!

This place actually give me so many reasons to post the review because their tacos are unbelievably good! I mean they are bloody delicious! I ordered four different tacos and shared with my wife. The four tacos were potato, octopus, mushrooms, and crab. My top favorites two were potato and octopus! All of them tasted completely authentic! Go and check them out! You won't regret it!
