Tim took $3000 of my deposit and will not refund me even though it is a refundable contract. Rather than refund me. He has blocked me. If you look it up you can see that Tim has multiple law suits against him regarding breach of contract. Please notice how all the 5 star reviews look fake. The pictures are extremely high quality, and many photos do not show food, just wedding display settings. The reason for this is because they are fake reviews. Please do not fall for them. Not only was the food amazing, with a ton of options so you can really tailor your menu, there were also several services included with the catering package! Most other caterers we considered charged extra to cut and serve the wedding cake, and they charged an additional rental fee for the dishes/silverware. Due to Covid, our children were only able to have a small intimate backyard wedding in 2021. TWO days BEFORE our planned reception date (in June), my husband contracted Covid and we were obligated to postpone/reschedule our reception to a future date. I was literally in tears that day! But Tim calmed me down and reassured me that rescheduling a future date would not be an issue. Without imposing any penalty or rescheduling fee, he quickly worked with the venue to provide a set of future available dates for the rescheduled reception! We are so grateful to Tim!

Part 1 -- Choosing Top Catering: - I was going to book Seafood World or Furiwa because I only know about those 2 companies growing up in Little Saigon. A boring traditional 8 course meal without innovation. - When I was wedding planning, I went to do the food tasting with both Seafood World and Furiwa; again, as expected: not exceptional, not bad. - I thought, ok fine, let's go try Top Catering and see what's up with this company. I wanted traditional Vietnamese banquet, but with a modern twist and innovation. I got just that, and MORE. I was BLOWN away. The mixture of flavoring and the presentation were extraordinary! - I told my parents, and they FREAKED out because they said "If your food is bad from Seafood World or Furiwa, then it's ok, as long as you went with a brand. If you food is bad from another company, everyone would complain". - However, I was VERY confident in Tim and Top Catering because of Tim's professionalism and knowledge. - So that's how I came to book Tim! I could not have been happier with my choice.
Part 2 -- Months of planning: - Malibu Rocky Oaks is one of the most logistically difficult venue in the Los Angeles Area as it is a completely bare venue. Seafood world cooks on a truck, but Tim was able to bring propane tanks and set up the whole kitchen in the garage of the estate - My fiance and I sent Tim a bunch of emails asking things from linens to food to presentation given we wanted long tables instead of round to number of servers to the mobile kitchen, etc. etc. etc. - Tim responded almost immediately and professionally - He recommended Stephanie's Linens so we were able to get the color we wanted (He has amazing floor length white linens as part of his package, but we were going with a different color and feel) - He worked with us on the menu customization to fit our budget - It was so pleasant working with him in every respect during the stressful planning period. I think it would've been hard with a different caterer; no one I talked to was as professional and knowledgeable
Part 3 -- Day of Wedding: - Tim came early with extra servers to cook a MIRACULOUS meal - He brought all the food to cook our 8 course banquet and 5 Vegetarian meals - Food came out HOT, beautiful, and on time - 10 minutes into the meal, I heard chattering "This food is AMAZING, wow!" - 20 minutes into the meal, my parents came up to say how great the food is and people wanted to know where it came from. 2 minutes after that, my husband's parents came up, then my sister, then my cousins. - It was a NEVER ending line of compliments - As people were leaving, they still could not stop talking about the FOOD. There was so much leftover food, and people were able to bring it home.
The saddest part about the whole wedding was we were not able to eat some of the delicious food because we were so busy and lost track of everything in the hustle out of the venue. No one ever tells you that about wedding day. Make sure you make time to eat Top Catering's amazing food!!!

Going into our wedding planning, we definitely did not want the standard hotel wedding meal and Tim was recommended to me by a friend that knew him from back in college especially after we were scared away by negative reviews for some of the other caterers in this space. From the get-go, Tim was very responsive (in fact, probably too communicative, but more on that later) with all of our questions. He was very gracious once we met in him person, first at our tasting and later at our hotel walkthrough.
Our tasting really blew us away with the quality of food. Both the wife and I are pretty picky eaters when it comes to Chinese/Vietnamese food, but we knew going in to the tasting that we weren't going to get the full authentic seafood restaurant experience. Despite that, the wife loved the lobster garlic noodles and I loved the filet mignon. Tim mentioned to us that he usually cooked on the less flavorful side to cater to a wider audience than the traditional flavor profile, which we completely understood. At that point, he asked us for specific flavor profiles or modifications, which really gave us chances to customize the menu how we wanted it.
On the day of our wedding, the food came out more or less like what we expected. From the appetizers, the stuffed mushrooms I thought were a cut above the rest while the rest were decent (and certainly better than regular, hotel provided hor d'oeuvres) . For the actual courses, the Peking duck actually came out better than expected and more authentic (privileges of the sweetheart table -- I heard the rest of the tables got the more meaty version that some other reviews mention, which we were OK with and had during the tasting). Our filet mignon was prepared differently during the wedding, which was a slight letdown because I really loved the preparation from our tasting. Other than that, the rest of the food was very similar to how we had it during the tasting! The food came out slightly slower than we would have liked (probably a half hour or so later) which impacted the flow of the wedding. Our coordinator attributed this to Tim throwing out his back, which was a shame, and the delay didn't adversely affect our wedding. Our guests were perfectly content having food keep coming, even ever so slightly late, and many people told us afterwards that the food was delicious and very, very filling.
In the full interest of providing a through review, there were a couple of interactions that were a bit off-putting to us. Tim primarily communicated with me via text. At times, Tim came off as a bit pushy when it came to making our down payments earlier than what was listed on the contract. He would offer a lot of deals to get us to commit more money earlier. At first, we felt a bit unsure about this, but our wedding coordinator had worked with Tim previously and said Tim would deliver, and after our tasting, we felt comfortable putting down more of the money upfront knowing that at least Tim could cook. Coming up to the wedding, we realized that due to our estimates being off, we had actually overpaid slightly! We upgraded our apps to offset the balance so we didn't have to deal with getting our money back (which seems like a pain point from other reviews). Tim also would habitually try to upsell us on decorative upgrades, but we went with Tim purely for the food perspective and had to communicate this to him several times. Given all that we had on our plates for wedding planning, it was a bit overwhelming getting random texts about Tim's newest promotion if we put down a few thousand dollars more earlier.
Despite all of these points, Top Catering and Tim provided us more or less what we pictured going into the planning process. Like I stated earlier, many of our guests were extremely satisfied with the quality and quantity of food, both Asians and non-Asians alike! To Tim's point, it's quite hard to cook for ~140 guests of diverse backgrounds, and based off the feedback we receive

Our guests were perfectly content having food keep coming, even ever so slightly late, and many people told us afterwards that the food was delicious and very, very filling.
In the full interest of providing a through review, there were a couple of interactions that were a bit off-putting to us. Tim primarily communicated with me via text. At times, Tim came off as a bit pushy when it came to making our down payments earlier than what was listed on the contract. He would offer a lot of deals to get us to commit more money earlier. At first, we felt a bit unsure about this, but our wedding coordinator had worked with Tim previously and said Tim would deliver, and after our tasting, we felt comfortable putting down more of the money upfront knowing that at least Tim could cook. Coming up to the wedding, we realized that due to our estimates being off, we had actually overpaid slightly! We upgraded our apps to offset the balance so we didn't have to deal with getting our money back (which seems like a pain point from other reviews). Tim also would habitually try to upsell us on decorative upgrades, but we went with Tim purely for the food perspective and had to communicate this to him several times. Given all that we had on our plates for wedding planning, it was a bit overwhelming getting random texts about Tim's newest promotion if we put down a few thousand dollars more earlier.
Despite all of these points, Top Catering and Tim provided us more or less what we pictured going into the planning process. Like I stated earlier, many of our guests were extremely satisfied with the quality and quantity of food, both Asians and non-Asians alike! To Tim's point, it's quite hard to cook for ~140 guests of diverse backgrounds, and based off the feedback we receive

Top Catering and Tim are one of the most despicable and shadiest businesses out there.
Tim will text constantly trying to convince you into paying up front for discounts, saying anything unused will be refunded.
The food on the day of our wedding was downright horrid, completely different from the initial tasting.
After the wedding, Tim refused to pay the refunded amount. He always made stupid excuses like he got hacked or the check got lost in the mail.
We took Tim to small claims to recover the $3000 he owed us. He did not show up (so we won) and continues to dodge payment.
What a headache!
