This review is for this location in Whittier. I worked down the street from the original location in Long Beach in the 80s and 90s. It’s been years since I had Super Mex and wanted to try it again. This location was closest to me. Had the shredded beef taco combination plate. My usual in the past. The good news, the shredded beef and salsa was just as I remembered. Unfortunately the taco shells seemed like they were the kind you buy in a grocery store, premade, not made in the restaurant. The beans tasted like there was lime mixed in, and the rice was mediocre. I also ordered flan, and it had a grainy texture. I was the only person in the restaurant. Granted it was about 20 min after they opened, but no one came in even though I was there about 35 min. It was also more expensive than other Mexican food places. Not a good value. Disappointing for sure.
Great food with excellent service. They also provide private room to celebrate a wedding, anniversary or birthday.

The service is extremely slow! It took almost 40 min to get served 1 dinner plate. Even if the food is the best I’m not willing to wait that long while the restaurant is empty/slow

Sid the bartender, she is really good. Sweet girl. Adriana our server is funny and very informative. She is a great server. She always makes sure we are comfortable. She makes sure we have drinks and everything we need to enjoy our meal. Everyone working here is very good. The manager even comes out to help when she is needed.

Went and Sat at the bar. Place was empty. Only 1 man and a couple sitting at the bar.
6pm. Waited 10 min before the young Blonde server Alondra dulce asked what we wanted, if we were going to eat.
We ordered 2 drinks, A Modelo, My margarita was horrible. It's a hit or miss here. No consistency.
Blonde young bartender was opening boxes and Restocking bottles the whole time.
We kept saying excuse me to flag her down. We wanted napkins for the dirty sticky counter. We asked 3 servers with no luck. There was finally another server who saw us and told another server who then told the bartender to get us napkins.
She put them on the counter and walked away. Didn't offer chips and salsa, Unless that is no longer offered since our last visit.(the weekend before)
no eye contact no offer of refills nothing.
It was now 6:30 and yet still no service or anyone to check in us. 6:50 my husband said very loud. Excuse me. She looked and then asked if we needed refills, I said no thank you. My husband asked for a beer. We left at 7pm.
I have a time stamp for my photos posted.
Won't be returning. Thank you.

So this is the second time I've come here in the last 30 days, within an hour of closing and the experience wasn't good. Both times the bartender acted completely miserable to be bothered to have food ordered, to go. First time they got my order wrong. Most recent time, in addition to the bad attitude, I ordered a 16oz beer and got charged for a 24oz beer. Bartender was non-existent after closing out so I didnt bring up that I was over charged. Use this place as a last resort.

Our first visit was on a Tuesday night, and so not very busy. I was surprised at how large the restaurant was, not like most of the uptown restaurants.
Food was fantastic, we will make this one of our favorites.

I ordered a carne asada burrito, no rice no beans. Ask for avocado sauce, sour cream, cilantro and cheese. they charge extra for everything. The carne asada was rubbery. All that hype and no taste. Very disappointed

Have dined in twice, not by choice, & each time, not impressed. Drinks are not good. Had to send margaritas back. Tasted very syrupy. The happy hour menu has very limited options. Chimichanga appetizers is the only thing that tastes good

The food is good, but pricy for the quality. It is presented nicely, but far too much salt is added. The atmosphere is spartan but noisy with overloud pop music. Service is quick and courteous.

Service or should I say NO service . Place is understaffed staff ignored us . We did get a beer and was told they'll be a minute. Well a minute took 1/2 and still no person took our order. Don't bother comming here . What a waste of time management just walks around as well as staff not even checking on people ready to order.
DONT WASTE YOUR TIME
