The fried chicken here is actually pretty crispy and flavorful, but it’s quite salty. Overall, it’s got taste, but it doesn’t really justify the price.

I have never walked out of a restaurant before until today. We had a reservation and we dressed appropriately but we were sat in an atrocious and cramped table. Touristy as hell. Sterile staff. Underwhelming ambiance. Dine somewhere else.

It's wonderful to splurge occasionally at this Thomas Keller restaurant. The food is always delicious and the staff is incredibly friendly and very well trained. I've only been a handful of times but it always makes me want to go back again soon. The menu is always a three course meal with additional add-on options. It goes without saying that the wine and alcohol list is impressive. Worth the drive to Yountville for a special dining experience.

What an amazing experience. My friend and I wanted to try a lot of the menu, so we over ordered. The daily menu was a little gem citrus salad, beef stroganoff, and a lemon bar. We added the cheese board and the fried chicken. Everything was amazing and so was the wine. Service was fantastic.

Set menu. 4 stars because the vibe was a little odd to me (I’m used to how lively SF restaurants are) and the gem salad was really confusing as the prequel to such a good beef stroganoff. It wasn’t super tasty and the lettuce just felt really uninspired. Pretty good service and a nice lunch overall.

Everything was absolutely delectable, no notes! My pictures do not do it justice. We had someone in the group with Celiac and they take it very seriously. My only note is where we were sitting was very loud due to the music levels and how many people were there. I would suggest keeping an ear out for loud pockets and turning the music down accordingly. Still a great experience and I wish I lived in the area to come back more often.
Not important to the food, but I loved the paper towels in the bathroom with the logo. :)

I am extremely disappointed with our experience yesterday night.
We have been coming to this restaurant for many years, which makes this visit even more frustrating. Last night, the food was honestly inedible. Every single dish was overwhelmingly salty — not just a little, but so salty that it was impossible to eat. It genuinely felt like salt had been added twice to every dish.
I seriously question what was happening in the kitchen that night — whether the head chef was absent or an inexperienced cook was handling the food, something clearly went very wrong.
We could barely eat one-fifth of the dishes we ordered because the saltiness was unbearable. After this experience, I will not be returning, and I would strongly not recommend this restaurant to others.
This was a huge letdown from a place we once trusted and enjoyed.

You longer have to schedule a reservation days ahead for a bucket so thankfully the process is now seamless. We love eating a few pieces at their back yard picnic tables, than bring home the rest for later. This is the best buttermilk fried chicken I’ve ever tasted.
The set menu at ad hoc was so disappointing. The waldorff salad comprised of sour bitter grapes and chicory with a flat flavourless buttermilk dressing. Not good. The fried chicken was instagrammable but flavorless with more fried coating than chicken. The batter had no salt, cayenne or herbs and frankly I could have made it better myself. The pear crumble was so sweet the only thing you tasted was sugar and Carmel but no pear. If you want bragging rights to go to a Thomas Kellar restaurant then make a visit. But if you want good food, this place is a hard pass. Very disappointing.

Very pleasant evening at this comfortable and relaxed location. Chicory salary started our meal, fresh and vibrant, then I was able to substitute the pork for salmon, with roasted potatoes and yummy brussel sprouts. The highlight was the dessert, a sundae with a selection of sauces.
Overall a lovely experience, and a very pleasant and attentive server.

I had high expectations for Ad Hoc, but unfortunately the experience was disappointing. The biggest issue for me was the fixed, family-style menu. If I wanted to eat the same meal as everyone at the table, I could have stayed home. When dining out—especially at a restaurant of this reputation—I expect the ability to choose my own dish. Part of the enjoyment of going out to dinner is ordering different items from your dining companion and sharing the experience that way, which simply isn’t possible here.
The other major letdown was the wine pricing. I understand restaurants mark up their wine, but Ad Hoc’s prices were excessive—roughly 250% over retail. A more reasonable markup (around 20%–30%) would have been understandable, but these prices felt unjustified and out of touch, detracting from the overall experience.
Given the lack of menu choice and the unreasonable wine prices, Ad Hoc did not deliver the value or flexibility I expect from a restaurant in Napa Valley.
Really wonderful prefix brunch menu that changes regularly.
