They add in a 20% gratuity even for small parties, which could explain the lackluster service, but it's really hard to be this bad even when your tip is guaranteed. One refill on our fountain drinks in 75 minutes. We asked multiple service staff and were brushed off like a diet coke was some kind of big request. Our waiter disappeared for huge stretches of time, and no one else was willing to assist. Thank goodness the Duck Bahn Mi and steak sandwich we ordered were delicious, or Pine Creek wouldn't have broken past 2 stars. It is nice they allow dogs, and their view is pretty good. But wow, what a crap waiter.

We came during the first part of October so the views were beautiful! We had a reservation and were seated outside as soon as we arrived so that was nice. For our starter, we ordered the elk stuffed mushrooms. It was good and very meaty with a nice butter sauce. My trout was a bit bland but the Coq Au Vin was nice with lots of mushrooms, which we love! We had vegetarians with us and they ordered the tomato mozzarella sandwich and the curry risotto. Both were tasty and beautifully plated as well. Service was also quick and friendly. Overall, the experience was a beautiful afternoon lunch in a really pretty area.

Cook house was disappointing…especially since the bill was over $300 for two. Salad didn’t have hardly any dressing. Food came out warm at best…lukewarm really. Steak was good and cooked properly but not hot, neither were the sides. Service was slow and they added an automatic 20% on the bill for service. Nice location and views.

We were really looking forward to dining here, especially after the breathtaking drive up. We were SO horribly disappointed. The ONLY good things about Pine Creek Cookhouse I are the view and the building.

We were seated in the bar dining room where the front door was left open. When we asked if the fan could be turned down or off, the bartender acted as if it was an unreasonable request.

I ordered a drink and the bartender promptly closed the wine menu and removed the wine glasses. I had intended to order wine with dinner but, apparently, that choice was made FOR me by the surly bartender.

We ordered the charcuterie board as a starter which SOUNDED good (curated local meats and cheeses) and while the meat selections - all 3 of them - were palatable, the cheeses were barely edible.

My husband ordered the tomahawk ribeye, rare to medium rare, and I chose the deconstructed venison Wellington, no question as to how I wanted it cooked.
The bread was grocery store quality at best but I suppose we should’ve been grateful we even GOT the bread. The people who walked in after us were told there was no bread because the machine had broken down. I BELIEVE there ARE ways that you can make bread without a machine, but I could be mistaken.

When the entrees arrived, I was pleasantly impressed by the plating but the dining experience continued to slalom downhill fast. The ribeye WAS cooked as requested but it was barely warm. The sides, however, were piping hot indicating an expediting mess in the kitchen.

My deconstructed venison featured a tiny piece of meat that was cooked one second shy of medium and was also cool to the touch. The foie gras should have been listed as “a hint of foie gras” and the puff pastry donut was just that - more biscuit than puff pastry.

We tried to make the best of a barely digestible situation and, since we were celebrating a birthday, we asked for the dessert menu. The waiter seemed to forget about dessert until we flagged him down for the check. Unfortunately, the downtown yogurt stand was already closed for the night.

The AUTOMATIC 20% gratuity brought the tab to $315. I’ve never minded paying more for the exquisite meals I’ve had in the past but the Pine Creek can keep their luke warm servings of bad diner food.

Nice location and place. Good food. Service was very unfriendly and cold . Asked for blankets and the person inside almost said go find them there.

What a great day. We drove up to Ashcroft with another couple to see the gorgeous leaves turning to fall colors, and took a nice long walk up to the Pine Creek Cookhouse before lunch. We were greeted by a delightful host who asked if we still wanted to eat outside, as we had requested that in our reservation. We walked out and were seated there, but quickly discovered it to be too cold and windy. When we told her we had changed our mind, she gladly accommodated at an inside table. Our server, Maya was absolutely charming. She immediately took our drink order, then gave us just the right amount of time to explore the fabulous menu before asking for our order. Several suggestions she made were right on point. We had been to the Cookhouse many times before, but somehow hadn't made it up there this summer. The views were exceptional, as always and the food was divine. I would call this "Upscale Local" cuisine with fun menu items like the Rocky Mountain Elk Brats, Grilled Salmon BLT, Ruby Red Trout, delicious Tomato Parmesan Soup and fabulous salads, with multiple protein options including salmon, shrimp or steak. We all commented upon leaving that we need to come back here more often!!

The epitome of Aspen dining - inhaling nature and eating fresh trout - best bloody Mary's in the Valley - Johnny the Manager makes sure everyone is happy!

It was a gorgeous fall day and our early lunch at The Pine Creek Cookhouse did not disappoint. The trout dip was delicious and we also had the elk stuffed cremini mushrooms. They were not my fav tho, as I found them a bit rubbery/tough. Our waitress Maja was a delight and made our visit a treat. Thank you!

Excellent spot for a wonderful lunch. The staff was kind. The food was delightful. I especially liked the Frijoles Fundido. Will be back next time we are in Aspen.

Food, views & ambiance are phenomenal. However, service is very poor unfortunately. We weren't checked on at all during our meal & had to request more water a couple of times. We had to request a check and pay up front to be able to leave after waiting 25 minutes after our dessert. There is a 20% gratuity already included on the bill no matter your party size.

Pine Creek never disappoints. We rode bikes up there for a 11:30 lunch reservation. We were seated right away and got a nice table by the window. We ordered trout dip as always and it was as good as ever. We had Caesar salad, very unique and delicious, a steak sandwich, elk bratwurst and elk stroganoff. Everyone was happy with their meal. The service is friendly, efficient but not rushed. I look forward to our next visit.

We own 2 restaurants and ii couldn’t imagine if one of my managers spoke to our guests this way. It is unacceptable - the way we were treated by the staff tonight at this restaurant. Especially one in fine dining

This morning I called to update the time for our reservation, I re-confirmed my request for the specific table to the far left corner near the window nearest to the entrance. This manager confirmed back to me “you’re all set for 7pm with the furthest left table near the window”

When we arrived we were shown to a different table with an obstructed view. They had just sat 2 people who walked in seconds before us at the table we were assured we reserved. The server brought the same manager over whom I had spoken with on the phone. In a desperate attempt to point the blame in a million different directions, with zero accountability, apology, or any kind of “that was our mistake”, says to us “there’s no note on your reservation so..I’m not sure what the issue is here, we can seat you over in the other dining area or ?

Dumfounded by this woman’s lack of bed side manner, we stand there for a moment contemplating which would be the better seat, and she again says “ok well do you want the table or not? Tried offering you a solution here and you’re not taking it so”

In this moment we almost walked out. Because my fiancée had never been here and we were just smiling so big at how beautiful the drive was, I sat down and looked at him in disbelief of what just happened- when the table next to us who overheard said “I don’t know how you guys didn’t walk out just now, if that were me and my wife I would’ve left.”

We then switch tables, as it was so uncomfortable sitting so near to where this manager was standing and now starting to talk and gossip about us to the server and bar tender. We ordered 2 appetizers, and our server in between serving us continues to stand in the corner with this manager snickering about us like we were in a high school cafeteria. This felt beyond bad service or bad food, it felt like an experience of harassment by the staff of this restaurant- as guests who simply came here to spend money.

She then has the audacity to slap a 20% service charge onto our bill. Not only is this not even legal to do for a party under 6 (we were 2) -it is downright offensive that you have not only disregarded, and disrespected us, but now profiled us as if we don’t tip servers 20%? Why?
The server drops the book off and doesn’t even tell us that they added the service charge…this just doesn’t show integrity and feels dishonest. I have lost a bit of respect for this place and will no longer be bringing anyone I know here. Pinecreek used to be one of my favorite recommendations to our guests that come to Aspen and stay in our air bnb’s. Keep it up with this kind of “management/service” and it will just be a pretty cabin in the woods.
