High Plains Diner is a country-style eatery that serves big portions of homemade food with a focus on breakfast options. The menu boasts a variety of choices, including vegetarian options like veggie skillets and omelettes. Favorites include the "Steamboat" omelette, breakfast burrito, and French toast. The diner also serves great-sized servings of other meals like Cuban sandwich and patty melt. The diner's atmosphere and staff provide a warm, down-home feel, with excellent and prompt service, making it a beloved local secret. The portions are generous, and the food is consistently good, offering a great variety in the menu. The breakfast options are especially popular, with large portions and well-prepared dishes. The skillet and chicken fried steak are highly recommended, though some dishes may need a little salt to enhance flavor. French toast is a standout, light and fluffy with a vanilla scent, and the bacon, biscuits and gravy, and over-medium eggs are also well-liked. The restaurant is clean and functional, providing a cozy atmosphere despite some reviews mentioning a lack of ambiance. Overall, High Plains Diner remains a reliable spot for hearty meals in a small-town setting.
