Great food and friendly people! Lots of history in this little town! Definitely recommend!

Visited solo 8-1-25 while passing thru on a roadtrip. Easy parking. Only a handful of people on the “family” side of restaurant . I was placed on bar side which was no issue for me. Server was not friendly. Tried to have small talk with her but she was not receptive. I was not in this town to gamble. Didn’t even know this town was loaded with casinos. I only stopped because I was hungry and saw “saloon”. I travel ALOT and this I would not consider a true saloon type of setting. As for the food, I wanted a light lunch. Ordered Salmon BLT with potato salad. Dry, ate half and thought I would eat later. Definitely no flavor and very dry. Potato salad tasted like it came from a large pre made container. Not a place I recommend. I considered a higher score rating but the service did me in.

We were passing thru on our way to Estes park. We had our parents with us who wanted to stop at one of the casinos. We had our medium sized dog and a chihuahua with us. We decided to walk around while we waited for our parents. We asked a worker at one of the casinos if he could recommend a place to eat that had a patio and allowed pets. He graciously pointed us to Crooks Place. As we got there my husband noticed a waitress cleaning up tables on the patio. He asked her if they allowed dogs. She responded very respectfully and said yes, of course. We walked around through the entrance and the hostess looked at us with disgust as she seated us on the patio. Our waitress came out took our order and also brought our pups some water which was very sweet of her. The hostess proceeded to bring another couple to seat them on the patio. She looked at us, gave us a hateful look and turned around and said I’ll seat you inside. When it came time for our meals to be delivered the hostess brought them out. My chihuahua barked a little and she practically threw the plates at us and she said, “Here you figured it out”. I was so upset we almost just up and left. C’mon the businesses clearly states it’s pet friendly!!!! They are dogs and do bark from time to time. That’s how they communicate!!!!!!! We finished our food and the kind waitress came back to ask how the food was. We complemented that the food was great and we appreciated her friendliness and service but further explained our experience with the hostess. She apologized, we paid our bill and gave her a cash tip of 40% for her only. If the hostess has an issue with dogs, they shouldn’t allow her to be seating people and serving them. Overall, the food was good and our waitress was amazing. If I ever happen to go through there again and encounter the same woman, I will definitely give her a piece of my mind!!!!!

Good authentic bbq. Brisket was very tender, and the kielbasa had a good snap to it. Both very flavorful

If you are in the area, this place has some delicious food. We had the nachos as an appetizer and they were delicious. For an entree we tried the cheesesteak sandwich and it was so perfectly made! The service was okay. I think they were super stressed about being busy though.

We saw this place on tik tok and were really looking forward to delicious food. Unfortunately my pulled pork sandwich came out and the meat seemed like they served me something that had been sitting out all day with zero moisture. My husband’s cheesesteak was just as dry and missing cheese. The waitress was very involved in what seemed to be her friend that came to visit and was irritated when asked for anything. She also seemed to be closing up early as the iced tea was dumped at 6pm but they don’t close until 830pm. Thankfully the hostess was kind and attentive. All in all I felt like I gambled and lost $50.

Now I'm from Mississippi and I only visited this place once, but the staff I met was friendly and the bbq sauce on offer was different from what I'm used to but it was delicious. Their cole slaw was definitely different from what I'm used to in the south but my fiance and I loved how different and light tasting it was. I'd definitely come here again when we vacation in the area again. Their pork belly burnt ends nachos are amazing as well!

If you're into true barbeque this establishment is for you. It is now called JKQ -BBQ. I enjoyed a very healthy serving of 1/2 rack st lewis style ribs with a side of JKQ beans and potatoes salad. This was definitely a meal for two. I was hungry so I indulged. The atmosphere was definitely historic. The bar still looked the same from 25 years ago. This is a family owned venue. If you want to take time away from the black hawk casinos and settle down for great food. This place is for you!
