Finally tried AOI after suggestions from friends. I was super happily surprised. Great fish, really friendly staff and some kind of unusual but authentic Japanese cooked dishes.
I liked that the rolls were fairly straightforward. No super complicated names rolls with too many sauces and flavors.
Prices were also very reasonable. Much better than some of the places downtown. The vibe is much more mellow than other places but quite nice on the patio.
One of our favorites. Sushi is always top quality. Izakaya offerings complete the experience.
6/7/2025 ALWAYS an enjoyable meal at AOI
The absolute best sushi and Japanese restaurant in all of Boulder. If you want authentic Izakaya style food and service this is the place! I could not recommend them more. And you absolutely must try the sesame ice cream!
The quality and taste exceeded our expectations! We ordered 10rolls and were amazing 🤩. Certainly a must come back.
staff was awesome, the sushi chefs greeted us enthusiastically when we walked in. it’s a cool little place with a lot of charm. food was yum. the mochi with shrimp and scallop could’ve been smaller since the shape was a little inconvenient to eat. however everything else was super good! give this place a try!
Excellent sushi! The best I've had in a long time.
Maybe we came on an off day, but the sushi was falling apart and pretty mooshy. When they were seating us they said we have a time limit at the table. I’ve never been told that before and felt pretty rushed. Might try them again because the reviews are so good.
Well... the problem is... if I'm going to spend $$$450 bucks on a client.
(4 people!!!) DO NOT tell me I have 90 minutes. Great service. Great table. Fantastic food. But eating with a clock to my head. No Bueno. And super not classy. We own a place in Denver. NEVER. 2 bours per table.
Did the actually RUSH the food?!? Poor form. Server was great but....
No notes! Sort of a hidden gem. Don't change a thing.
My favorite sushi restaurant in Boulder! The atmosphere and the staff are all amazing and I've probably been here 9 times in the past year. The patio is also amazing in the summer. The food is not as expensive as other sushi restaurants in Boulder and it tastes phenomenal!

As a sushi snob I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sushi and the rest of the food. Fast friendly service as well.
Best sushi was the best I have had in Boulder highly recommended the mochi kakiage . It was busy, I would recommend a reservation.
Me and my lady went here last night to celebrate an important milestone in my life . From the reviews I expected it to be amazing. We walked in around 5:50 and the hostess said she could sat us at a table but we had to be done by 7. I found that to be weird because there were open tables around us the entire time and when we left at 7. Our server was very dismissive and not very accommodating at all , even with another server helping her , she forgot my ladies drink for half of the meal . The food was good but nothing special and I do believe that I will be sticking to my favorite sushi spot across town.
Great food and wonderful service!
Great food, a little loud but cozy, and great service.
