Southern Sun Pub & Brewery

I’ve been coming to Southern Sun since 2012 and usually have an decent experience, but today was disappointing. The food was great, but the service was very lacking.

We had to ask for kids’ menus, our kids’ drinks were forgotten, and we didn’t get water until we asked—after our beers arrived. Our appetizer took about 30 minutes and only came after we checked on it, and our food took around 50 minutes total. The server was nice but very forgetful and needed multiple reminders.

Even getting an extra to-go box required asking three different employees. They did comp our drinks due to the long wait, which we appreciated, but coming in after the lunch rush, we expected better, especially as long-time customers.

I go here a lot or get takeout and every time their burger just is perfect with the amazingly salted fries it’s simply an extraordinary experience for your mouth and is one of the best meals I’ve ever had!!!

Food and service are pretty good and I’ve been here a bunch of times over the last decade. However, it’s lame that it went back to cash only. And it’s very lame how my party was charged a 20% service fee for a ‘party of 6’ when we had 4 adults, a 3 year old and an 18 month old (who split a kids grilled cheese btw). The service was fine, but didn’t deserve the 20%+ (because it was awkward to accept $3 in change) that we gave.

Southern Sun is one of those classic Boulder spots that just feels good every time you go. The beer is always excellent, the food is hearty and delicious, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. The staff is friendly, the community vibe is strong, and the place just has that iconic Boulder energy. A must-visit whether you’re grabbing a pint or a full meal.

Great poutine and Bison Burger!

Menu said we have 90 minutes maximum from the time we sit down to when we HAVE to leave. I asked if this was true. The waitress said no it’s not true. Well. After about that time. After spending over $90 on food and drinks. A waitress came over and said we had to move to the couches because there were children and a family of 12 waiting. This was really upsetting to my party of 6.

Definitely will not be coming back. Oh! And it’s cash only! They have an ATM but they will let you know 6x it’s cash only.

TLDR: the menu says 90 minutes max. Waitress said it wasn’t true. Got moved from our table to accommodate others despite spending over $120

I was so impress with the chips in the Mountain Sun pearl branch that i return to the sister branch, Southern Sun on Broadway.
Chips turn out to be over fried (very dark colored), with a burnt bitterness.
However, kind enough to provide wirh another batch which is much lighter and with much less seasoning.

Obviously the burgers, beer, and fries are great ... but wow the servers are the best. So friendly, caring, and personable. Hospitality is what makes this place stand out!

Wow... The wings.. best wings I have ever had. I had the sweet chili sauce on mine and now want to come back to try the buffalo and BBQ sauces.

Also had the SOB burger. Excellent. Just the right amount of spice.

No pictures because we ate it all too quick.

Forgot... The fries... So good 👍👍

Sometimes can be a bit inconsistent but when they are on, like they were tonight, they make the best burger and fries in Boulder.

Love the always consistent old school XXX and Kind Ales. Please never take those away!
