Last time we went, it was great. This time, pretty bad. Service was awful; no one even brought water or acknowledged us for a very long time. We brought out of town family with us and were embarrassed! Soup was awful; it tasted like hot water. When I told the waitress, she seemed aware of the problem, but didn't fix it. Our lychee drinks and salad were bad. My mushroom appetizer and entree were pretty good. I don't know what went wrong. We probably won't return.
Place has seriously gone downhill. New owners have led to a sharp decrease in quality. Also seems understaffed
We hadn't been to Sushi Zanmai in awhile and decided to go back before a show at the Boulder Theater, I was pleasantly surprised with how excellent the sashimi was as well as the service. It wasn't super busy and that helped the ambiance. Glad to have Zanmai back in regular rotation!
Great time every time I go here :)
The food was delicious! It was unusually loud for a Japanese restaurant but that was due to a few patrons.
Authentic sushi for a very good price. Loved the restaurant atmosphere, the staff was helpful and nice, and the food was amazing. All in all: exactly what you want from a sushi restaurant. Our waitress even told us to try and get our order in after she sat a large group so we wouldn’t have to wait longer for our sushi to be made. Nice touch that made the experience even better. We will be coming back
Extraordinary service - freshest sashimi platter and sushi platter - all exceptionally great. We loved the tatimi room - so quiet on a super busy graduation weekend. The six of us were able to converse delightfully! Truly a memorable evening. Thank you!
Sushi Zanmai graciously made room for my party of 10. I've eaten sushi at several restaurants, and this was one of the top dining experiences!
Horrible behavior from hostess at graduation dinner. Approached us to say “we need your table for the next reservation “. Hadn't received a bill, hadn't seen server in a while because she was totally overextended (not her fault). Spent over $500 and hostess was rude in shocking direct approach to table—will not go back.
New favorite sushi roll in town! I love this place but this time was special and hit the spot. Out server was lovely and so accommodating!

It was just an average experience and food and drinks were poor. We have had sushi much better at other places! Server was good!
Don't order the King Crab roll (with the cooked crab on top). We first tried it three months ago when it was new. It was pretty good, so we ordered it again a month later when we went, and this time it tasted a bit burned/off. We thought a cook was having an off day. Then we ordered it this weekend. You could tell someone had burned the crab topping, but they still decided to serve it. It was burned so bad the whole roll smelled like burned food. We were really hungry and ate three pieces before we stopped eating it. I told the server but she didn't offer to to anything- remake it, refund it, or talk to the kitchen. She clearly saw we had only eaten half the roll. The other rolls we've had here are fine, but when your average bill is $90-100 for two people you expect higher quality. I have to rethink how often I visit here. Just be warned about the crab roll. I was burping burned crab topping all night because of it, and my wife had bad indegestion also.
One of my favorite sushi spots in Boulder!
Went for lunch on a Friday at 1pm. We were the only two customers, we enjoyed our bento, very good tempura and fish.
PagMan service. Lady was nice. Food was good asl. And was very good. The rice is a little hard (just barely noticable), but thats very close to being negligible. Everything was high quality. Had Jurassic World playing too!
