Sad to say, I was not impressed. Pulled pork sandwiches were cold, dry and meat wasn’t seasoned at all. My side of baked beans was majority liquid, not many actual beans. The little container of sauce was actually unique and pretty good, but was the only thing on my plate that was actually warm.
I've only been there one time and it was late so a lot of stuff was sold out. The pulled pork was really good. I need to go back earlier in the day to try some other meats.
We both got the brisket plate with two sides. Brisket had good flavor but, was mostly fat. The Mac n cheese was OK. The cheese potato was plain. Cole slaw had zero flavor, the baked beans were fantastic. Overall not a good experience. I do have to say the staff were great.
I am so disappointed after hearing such good things from every one in town. Enough so that I felt it necessary to give a warning to anyone else who isn't used to the local cuisine. For a place that sells out every day and gets high praise around town, I would expect to at least get food good enough I want to finish it. I wish the employees would Google terms like \"white pepper\" \"black pepper\" \"garlic\" \"onion\" \"rub\" it would have made all the difference. The brisket didn't taste smokey either, there was just the tiniest hint of that char aftertaste you crave when you want bbq and expect to be bursting out of brisket. No seasoning, no smoke, just hot meat flavor. The sauce tasted like dill pickle juice, vinegar, and brown sugar so I ended up using some sauce from home and dipping the brisket in spices to make it go down easier. It was a little too brown for my taste in brisket, but at least it wasn't dry? I don't get the good reviews? The only time I would ever order meat without seasoning is to give it to a dog. ? The Mac and cheese sauce was basically milk and the noodles were a little too mushy which would have been fine if they weren't bland mush. The cheesy potatoes ACTUALLY had a little flavor. It tastes like it's mostly from sour cream, but it was a welcome change of pace. I only wish they had crisped them before adding the sauce so they wouldnt have such a mushy texture. The pulled pork was ground instead of shredded which makes me wonder if they did it by hand or just threw it into a mixer? The texture was unpleasant. It was also drier than the bread it came on. And again, unseasoned. I'm glad that people who like this kind of food have a safe haven where they don't have to dip their meat in water before eating it, but I would not bring any of my friends or family here if they were to visit and I don't plan on ever going back myself. I wish them the best because they seemed very nice when ordering.
New BBQ place I heard about. Took the family for lunch and it was fantastic. Brisket was tender and juicy. BBQ sandwiches had a large amount of meat. All the sides we tried were excellent. Very clean and service was great. Sorry no pics, ate it all too fast!
They have been a delightful addition to the Royal Gorge region. This area needed an outstanding BBQ establishment and that's exactly what they got! The Brisket is the star of the show with the pull pork as the co-star. All the sides were on point and my favorite was the cheesy potatoes. Great value for the amount of food you receive. Ice cold Pepsi products round out the show. Two thumbs and two big toes up!
Delicious! We ordered the brisket, half a chicken and some sides. The Brisket was wonderful, the chicken was so tender and delicious, the beans were spicy and good, the potato casserole was yummy, but the slaw needed to have some dressing it was really dry (easy fix!) We will definitely be coming back! Very clean place as well. Keep up the good work Battle Borne!
Dry ribs. Easily the worst brisket I’ve ever had - dry, tough and flavorless. Sides were average. I don’t expect much from Canon City restaurants, and based on previous reviews I looked forward to this one exceeding my low expectations. It did not. Taking the meat home to try to salvage it. I sincerely hope this local business is able to up their game and succeed.
My son and I ate here and we both enjoyed it very much. My son had the nachos which were amazing. I had the brisket which was also very good. The only thing we would have liked to send on the menu was cornbread, as bbq and cornbread just seem to go well together.
We picked up 2 lbs of brisket and it was incredible. We just came through on our way back to Arizona after a 5000 mile road trip which we had barbecue brisket in 3 other states and this is the best quality!Thank you and see you tomorrow for pulled pork!

The only meat I have tried here is the brisket. It is really, really good Texas-style meat (although it tends to be a little on the fatty side). The sides are somewhat inconsistent, especially the beans. The first two times I had the beans they were outstanding, with a great smoky flavor; the last time I had them, they were way too sweet and I could not even finish mine. May have to try a different side next time.
Smoked meat done right. We ordered the pulled bbq sandwich and some brisket. Both were delicious. I also really like their sweet tea. Great price on meat by the pound. Thank you for a great lunch today!
We picked up our lunch from Battle Borne BBQ today and the chopped brisket sandwiches and sliced brisket plate were both fabulous! The brined meat is so tender and has such a lovely smoked taste. The southern sides were tasty and fresh!
Generous portions and their kitchen is so clean. Great location choice. Service is prompt friendly and impressive. The brisket was very tender and a well developed bark. I prefer a spicier seasoning on beef but their BBQ sauce is a great supplement if you want more flavor. The pulled pork was dry but the massive portions with their house sauce more than makes up for it.Star of the show was brisket but the cheesy potato side was a close second. It's worth mentioning again that they clearly keep their kitchen clean and tidy which I care about for food safety. This veteran and family owned spot has no business being such a well oiled machine right out of the gate. Color me impressed. They filled a need for BBQ that Cañon City was desperately lacking.Great job all around. I hope they stay profitable. They did the hard work and deserve to succeed.
Finally got the chance to try them today(mothers day) last minute(my fault entirely)... only had pulled pork and options for couple sides.. ordered the pulled pork sandwiches with potato salad and coleslaw.. have no complaints.. even gave me small taste of brisket which is always 1st choice.. but am not unhappy with the pork.. brisket had great smoke ring, great bark too.. will definitely be back to try more brisket..chicken and ribs.. and will review each..lol. staff was friendly and eager to lend hand since alline were full...nice to finally have some good bbq in fremont.looking forward to next visit!
