High Hopes

We arrived in Canon City for a business meeting, checked into our hotel, and headed for IHOP, looking forward to having 'breakfast for dinner'. The second we walked in we were hit with a stink that made our eyes water. It smelled like a port-a-potty that hadn't been emptied for weeks. We immediately did an about-face and left. Went down the street to Village Inn and had great meals and great service. Why a restaurant would not close their doors until their sewer problem was fixed is beyond me.

Always love the flavor of the food here. They always do great in that aspect.
I usually order delivery and every single time they always leave 1-3 things out. Today was the first time I’ve ever gotten a Serrano pepper with my Fajita omelet but they left out the sour cream and salsa. I also ordered my young son the smiley face pancake. They sent me a bland non decorated funfetti pancake.
In the end the food is wonderful but the people need to pay attention a little more. I’ve never had a fully correct order

We gave Ihop a 2nd chance after years of not going there. Service was less than par. It took 30 minutes to make an Omelet with hash browns. Food came out cold and hash browns were not even cooked. 2nd order of hash browns were the same. They charged $5.00 for a side of toast that didn't even come out with our meal and we had to wait 10 minutes to get our toast. McDonald's would even surpass this experience. Go down the road to a mom and pop restaurant it would be way better than IHOP!

Update:
I believe in giving places a second chance and I'm certainly glad we did.
We've been back a few times since the first review and have had excellent service each time. Tonight (9-14-25), our waitress was Theresa and she was training Diana.
This dou was handling the flow of people like two veterans who have worked together for years. They were quick to seat us and patient while we looked thru the menu. The order came out quickly, the food looked and tasted good. They didn't rush the ticket to the table and disrupt the dinner, but also didn't leave us waiting forever. Overall, the past few visits have more than made up for what happened the first time. A+ and 5☆'s to the entire staff.

Waited an hour for our food. Bathrooms were filthy. Waitress avoided us. No refills on drinks. Food wasn't hot. However, the staff was nice but seemed to be spread thin.
Update a year later: No change

So, 1st a shoutout to our great waiter Christian. He was very professional and patient. And I do appreciate that the ihop hire local. But they need to train their cooks up a bit, or allow cooks to use their phones to look at complex dishes if they don’t know how to make them. This morning I ordered “basted eggs” as my preferred eggs cook style. The cooks never heard of basted eggs, which I found quite humorous. They are not hard to get right. So, if the cooks there see this you start an egg like sunny side up, then you add water to the pan and put a lid over it so the egg “steams” itself for about 2-3 minutes. And done. I could have if allowed go in the kitchen and show you how… anyhow in emoji language it is: 🥚 🍳,lid, steam ⏱️ 2-3 minutes. If you need tips about poached lmk..

The food was not hot. Took long time to get our order. The gravy and coffee were watered down.

Busy labor day weekend, arrived and was greeted in a very friendly way. The hostess was still training and the waitstaff was really supportive of her helping her. Was seated and the waitstaff, Sable, was bubbly and very upbeat and positive. Just 2 waitstaff on the floor and they were packed. Down to just one cook. She rocked it and communicated professionally through out the wait time. Got our order out quickly. As rushed as it was in there this girl deserves a raise and a promotion. She organized and handled everything coming at her with grace. Will be back. Food was good and hot. What a ray of sunshine in chaos!

More Than Service—It’s Genuine Care
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This location has truly adopted my parents and always takes the very best care of them. The cook even starts preparing their meal before they are seated—such kindness and attention means the world to us. For my mom’s 85th birthday, Diana went above and beyond to make it a day we’ll never forget. My mom was so surprised and touched by all the thoughtful details. Thank you, Diana, and the entire team, for treating my parents like family and creating such special memories!

Crappy service and cold food. The hostess sat us down and the waitress took the order. It’s the last time we saw the waitress. The hostess brought our food out. The place wasn’t even busy, I think at most, like four tables were occupied. The waitress just never even came to ask if everything was okay, or a refill. She didn’t even bring us the pancakes that came with the breakfast sampler. Needless to say, zero tip for zero service. And definitely will not be coming back.

I would have to give them one star on everything. I actually didn’t get a chance to experience it at all the sign directly off the highway. It says 24 hours. But after you pull into the very awkward parking lot, you realize that they’re closed at 11:30. Which seems to be less than 24 hours, but I’m no math expert. So you get one star because you’re liars
