Not a great experience. We made reservations early so that we could be home by the kids’ bedtime. We ended up being in the restaurant for almost 2 hours due to slow service. Our waitress was very nice, but she was the sever, hostess and bartender. No way for her to service us in a timely manner on a busy Friday night. Maybe part of the problem is a 20% gratuity was automatically included. First, you need to be transparent about that up front as part of your pricing. Second, no reason to make improvements when you get paid the same regardless if your service is good or bad ...As for the food it was hit or miss. Fries and collards were great, burger, chicken, and ravioli were basic to bad. Sadly we won’t be back.

The bartender was very personable. She served us and even spent time out from behind the bar by our table. I really liked the wine glasses instead of the tumblers. The desert and the date appetizer was very good.

Very slow service and poor food quality. Don't waste your time and money. There are other great restaurants in the area.

we made a reservation and there was no choice of indoor our outdoor/I am always cold so we NEVER choose outdoor! hostess argued aggressively that we made an outdoor reservation/it was 42 degrees out. Not a good start. She put us inside but wind was driving thru the open double doors and she said she would not close them so I put my down coat around me. Gee this is fun. I just wanted to leave. So she moved us. We sat there forever with wait staff walking by us. We ended up with the most lame waitress ever. She dropped the food and disappeared. He ordered a cocktail and had to send it back as they brag about their house made mixers which are really terrible. Very weak wine list. My 50-50 burger was yummy but if you are hungry beware this sandwich is about 3 1/2 inches across so it is tiny for $18. His shrimp and grits was good. Have to say I would never go back. Not a fun dining experience and with tip for two of us was $150. He is a former restaurant owner and wanted to see a manager/owner and we were told on a busy friday night that there was neither on site. Great potential for a place like this to go out of biz with zero management and the staff left to act like this.

Best restaurant in Denver! The food and service are outstanding, we have never been disappointed! The best steak I have ever had at a restaurant anywhere and very reasonably priced compared to Morton’s, Elway’s, Capital Grill, Ruth’s or Chop House. Everything is nice. Highly recommended.

Have always wanted to try this place out because of the good reviews. Glad to say it didn't disappoint! Got seated super quickly. Me and my friend got the edamame dumplings, lucky noodle, truffle mac and cheese, and kimchi paella. Also got one of the LED capri suns in the flavor: Pure Strawberry.Everything was super unique and tasty!

Well, every time we go, and it has been a year, we are delighted. You just don't get GREAT vegan food unless the chef, like Amy, is really into it. The mushroom/lentil Wellington was absolutely the best! The vegan pastry was unbelievable! Four courses of vegan delight. Booked for March!

Came here again to try more! The Brussels sprouts are super super super amazing!! The most flavorful Brussels sprouts I've ever had. I could have eaten that for my meal. Chili garlic sauce was spot on! Jambalaya was good again! Very tasty. Shrimp and grits was alright. It was good but I wouldn't get it again and it was definitely the least tasty of the three dishes. Love this place for the ambiance, creativity and deliciousness of its changing menu, and servers are nice. Just pretty pricey, food is fancy so it's not very filling, and parking sucks (street parking).

My family of four had an exceptional lunch at this nearly empty restaurant during mid-day. I have been to the other restaurants on this block in Washington Park numerous times and this was by far the best food on the block. Our group had the Mediterranean Plate, Mussels, Grilled Chicken Sandwich and Fried Chicken with collard greens and Macaroni and Cheese. Every plate was clean by the end of the meal. The chicken sandwich and fried chicken were far more flavorful, moist and tender than what one usually receives. The mussels were plump and sweet and the broth a nice mix of wine, oil and spices. The offerings on the Mediterranean Plate were fresh and appealing. I had been to the sister restaurant that previously closed and would say the food here is several steps above in terms of menu selection and preparation.

This morning my spouse and I decided to try a little bistro on old S. Gaylord. I am usually one to write a ton of reviews, however, Charcoal Bistro is well worth it! The BEST quiche Lorraine and homemade sausage I've ever tasted (including my travels to Paris and back)! The coffee was superb and the beautiful bread pudding a la mode was to die for! They also have excellent wait staff, Andrea, was the best! So, go experience what a true chef does! Amy is amazing!

Thank you for a lovely experience! We had the lobster ravioli and it was delicious. The egg-rolls were also incredible. We will definitely be visiting more often!

I generally don't write reviews, but after seeing the poor review from the other day, I feel compelled to share my thoughts. The Charcoal Bistro is a wonderful, warm and inviting place to have a "home cooked" style meal while being treated to some of the most down to earth, friendly and hospitable staff I've ever experienced.Charcoal is not fine dining. Charcoal is a limited item, chef driven menu by an amazing talent with Amy leading the charge. She knows food, she knows how to properly season food and her presentation skills are superb. My wife and I have dined at Charcoal dozens of times.....we have dined all over the world. We enjoy a greasy burger from a hole in the wall and Per Se in NYC.....Amy, Charcoal, Erica, Wally, Andrea, Leonard and Matt.....they care - they aim to please - we'll see you guys soon. Thank you for all you do and how you do it.

This place was excellent. The vegan brussels sprouts and blackened tofu had me cleaning my plate. The staff was incredibly friendly as well. Will be visiting constantly.

Great service, poor food quality.Tomato soup overly salty.Jambalaya overly salty, couldn't really taste much but the saltiness.Amy's 3 piece chicken had a bad smell, perhaps they didn't wash the meat before cooking or it wasn't fresh, couldn't eat it, hopefully my dog will.Mac and cheese was disappointing, not restaurant quality mac and cheese, it was very plain, the only item I could eat.Second time I try this restaurant, thought the first time I was unlucky with the chef that day, it was much worse this time, not coming back. Sorry.
