Wonderful fun!
Top notch and stellar facility! We love it here. It's huge and mainly flat. Wonderful amenities and very clean. So much variety.
First time visitor. What a wonderful zoo, one that truly highlights how these sorts of places can be a testament to our stewardship of animals. While other zoos get attention (for good and bad reasons), any visit to Denver should include a stop here.
To the one, the habitats and enclosures were expansive, well-kept, and carefully attended by the employees. Exhibits proved informative and leaned into a focus on preservation and conservation. On our visit, a highlight was the training with the two gorillas and the hyenas who were, by turns, excited and sleepy! Local squirrels and birds mixed easily with the animals in their enclosures. And children—often a highlight of visiting a zoo—were animated observers of all that was going on as employees were preparing for the annual Zoo Lights displays.
Speaking of which, all the employees we interacted with were kind, from groundskeepers to those staffing various animal enclosures throughout the park. The people working with the gorillas explained their process in detail. Those roaming the zoo made sure to announce when something was about to happen in specific areas. Even the sections being renovated were carefully walled off with placards explaining the work that was being done.
There is a reason this zoo has such high ratings when it comes to its treatment of animals. Moreover, it is clear that those who work here care about the work they are doing. I can’t think of a better way to spend a nice day outside in Denver. Highly recommended.
It was fun, big, entertaining and family friendly. Biggest draw back cost.
Denver Zoo is great way to spend time. The exhibits are family oriented. Staff are friendly and informative. Seeing the hospital was truly amazing. Food and drinks (adult beverages, too) are available. Halloween and holiday season are great times to visit, as there are special trick-or-treating events and the zoo is decorated!
The Denver Zoo is a really nice zoo with a large variety of animals and well-designed exhibits. It’s clean, organized, and a fun place for families, especially kids who love seeing wildlife up close.
That said, I’ve always had mixed feelings about zoos. I really don’t believe animals should be held captive, especially when so many species belong in wide, natural habitats instead of enclosures.
But I’ll never forget something one of my students once said to me. I told them I didn’t really support zoos, and he raised his hand and said,
“But Ms. Fiskus, if there were no zoos, then people wouldn’t be able to see the animals and gain empathy for them. And without empathy, less people would want to help them.”
And honestly, that stuck with me. It’s a good point. Zoos can help with education, awareness, and conservation when done responsibly.
So while I’m torn about the ethics, the Denver Zoo itself is very nice, and it does a lot to teach people about wildlife and conservation.
I prefer an African safari.
People were very rude, had no sense of space or respect
Very nice zoo :3
These are very loved animals. I have been to some zoos where the animals look like they haven’t ate in a while or they are very stressed and/or in a small enclosure. At the Denver zoo, all the animals enclosures were just big enough for the animals to survive and not stressed. I liked how we could get close to the wallaby’s and ask the near by staff questions about the animals.
Loved the experience! There's so much to see, and the animals look very well taken care of!

Great, especially for family outings with children. Made of the exhibits have been remodeled. They have talks by the staff to share information about the animals with visitors. Very friendly staff.
We loved the Tropical room the most with the snakes and fish. We only were able to do about half of it in 5 hours and plan to come back again later to do the 2nd half.
We enjoy the layout of this zoo. Even on crowded days it’s easy to navigate and see the animals and other exhibits.
Closing at 4pm on a friday is absurd.
