In a world of untrained, high turnover service, Root Down provides competent, knowledgeable, dedicated and friendly wait staff who add to the great dining experience at this exceptional restaurant. And as always, the food (and drink) is a joy to experience
I was disappointed - I had been here 6 weeks prior and wanted to bring my family to share a great experience. Unfortunately our server was very lax. We ordered 4 share plates and I thought he would have sent out the salad first and then the other 3 dishes - however that did not happen. We got our brussel sprouts first and then a main course. Then he dropped off a dessert menu and we told him that we were still waiting for 2 other plates, 1 being the salad. There was no apology and it seemed as if he did not care. Food was good - but not as great as it had been the 1st time. I will not be back any time soon.
I was super disappointed with this experience. Our server was kind but inattentive, the food was very average for the price (we had the hangar steak and the rockfish with a bunch of small plates) with flavors lacking. The kitchen seemed very slow as items came out sporadically and randomly. Even drink refills were neglected. I was told when we sat the restaurant is not owned or in any way the 'same' as the airport version (which is some of the BEST airport food in the country IMHO). I am likely moving to his area of Denver and bummed that I can't count on this location for great eats.
The soup and salad was incredible, but when the main course came the food was just terrible. Presentation was good, atmosphere was incredible, service was great. Maybe I just don't have the taste buds for this place, all the flavors and textures were just off. Gave me the ick FAST.
Haven't been to Root Down in a while and this trip was overall disappointing. We had the goat cheese/chicken biscuit and Cubano benedict and both were subpar. The chicken was way overcooked and chewy and the benedict had so much relish it was all that could be tasted, we felt very let down. Our server was great, very attentive and helpful, but overall this experience was ok at best.
I requested that our table of six be seated in the alcove behind the reservation desk. It's a more intimate setting and so much quieter than the main room. Every bite of our shared plates was a flavor bomb! And there was no worries for our gluten intolerant diners. Exquisite evening!
This is simply the best meal I’ve had in a long time. The entire front of house staff was terrific and friend. The atmosphere cool, comfortable, and understated. The food was fresh and inventive, and it was an absolute pleasure to watch a kitchen staff who obviously pride themselves on professionalism and attention to detail. I am looking forward to visiting again soon!
Had an amazing dinner here! The food was delicious, but the real highlight was our server, Francisco. He went above and beyond! Super friendly, knew the menu inside out, and made the whole night feel special by making sure we enjoyed every item that came our way. If you visit, ask for Francisco whether he's serving or behind the bar, he'll make sure you have a great time!
We waited an incredibly long time for our food... We got the wrong food first and then they shorted us. It would be right out, but it took another 20 or so minutes overall was not pleased. Perhaps they were understaffed, but they fell short of my expectations as a foodie. Also the lamb burgers were very dry and we asked for them, medium medium rare, and our waitress didn't seem to care when I had said that they're dry. and they were really strange orange color inside I think a little too orangey - the veggie burgers were good, but definitely very spicy and you should let your customers know that. Anyway, our mock tails were phenomenal.
Everyone at our table really liked the food. Gnocchi was our favorite but it may be leaving the menu. The chicken dish got rave reviews. All paired with great service. Looking forward to a return visit.

Can't remember our servers name but he was excellent. He was super friendly, knowledgeable, and present without being intrusive. I love this place and our server made it even better!
Lovely evening with friends. We arrived early and ordered every Happy Hour small plate item plus drinks. It was quiet and we were able to catch up. When we were ready to leave at 7pm, it was very loud in the bar area. Food was great and we shared each item except one each of the lamb sliders. Annie was the perfect server and gave great recommendations plus anticipated our every need!
Loved the food and place, great meal and incredibly nice staff. I would prefer they make prices higher than add 5% automatically to bills
The food was absolutely amazing. They have a heavy handed approach to seasoning, and after living in North Carolina for a few years, is a breath of fresh air.
Tons of clearly marked vegetarian and vegan options, great mix of seasoning and textures.
Great selection of wine as well.
Fantastic restaurant, highly recommend, and will be returning.
