Another twinkling beacon in South Federal's nightlife scene, Sao Đêm Lounge recently debuted in the space once occupied by, most famously, T-Wa Inn. And as it happens, it's equally tasty if you visit during the day. So why don't we do some culinary stargazing of our own?In Vietnamese, "sao đêm" (or indeed, "đêm đầy sao") roughly translates to "starry night" (an alternative name for the restaurant itself). "Hmm, that reminds me of a painting for some reason", I hear you say - and you'd be correct - the entry way features a replication of the Van Gogh masterpiece of the same name. And the dishes within are equally magnificent. To start, the bacon aficionados among you will be enamored with Thịt Ba Rọi Chiên Giòn - chunks of pork belly in a chili/salt mixture. Or, for a synthesis of crunchy, chewy. smoky, and tangy flavors, how about a touch of Gỏi Đu Đủ Bò Khô (green papaya salad with dried beef)? A stirfry of corn niblets and rounds of dried shrimp (Bắp Xào) provides a similar palette of flavor and texture contrasts. And if you're looking for a simpler starter, you really can't go wrong with some sweet potato fries (Khoai Lang Chiên) can you? The takeaway from all this blathering is that Sao Đêm excels at many kinds of Món Nhậu (or rather, "dishes served with alcohol").But naturally, our menu exploration isn't yet complete - far from it in fact! We haven't discussed seafood much yet, so why don't I shine some light on that subject with a mention of briny, verdant Ngheu Nướng Mỡ Hành (clams grilled in scallion oil)? Another magical mollusc dish available under this very roof is Ốc Hương Xào Lăn - plump sea snails in coconut curry. If you were seeking something more on the... terrestrial side for this meal, see what you think of a plate of gingery caramelized chicken chunks (Gà Kho Gừng). Oh, you're celebrating tonight? Well, congratulations! I think this evening calls for some hotpot - and luckily, I know just the one for you - Lẩu Thái. An adaptation of, yes, Tom Yum soup from Thailand, this has in fact been popular in Vietnam for decades and features a galangal/lemongrass broth sided with rice noodles, fish balls, shrimp, and various veggies (leafy and otherwise) to give you even more nutrition. So anyway, for a night filled with... culinary delights, stop by Sao Đêm.

I hosted my birthday party here and the team at Sao Dem made everything easy and a great experience. By the time I showed up decorations were already set up and food was ready. All of my guests had so much fun! We will definitely be back.

Fun karaoke lounge, friendly staff, and according to my husband - the absolute best pork chop he’s ever eaten. Pork chop rice plate has generous portions. All the menu items were quite reasonably priced as well. Check them out.
