I’m from out of town and recently visited this establishment for dinner.
I must say I was astounded when an automatic 20% was added to my bill.
It’s up to the owner of the restaurant to properly compensate The staff not me.
PAY YOUR STAFF PROPERLY THIS NOT A FULL SERVICE ESTABLISHMENT.
Raise your prices if necessary.
This is totally out of control.
I will not be back.
Further, I have read the explanation of the owner in another post for this restaurant and I adamantly disagree. Do not use me to test your model for paying your employees.

Love that it is dog friendly, it’s a little confusing between the two sides though, but the food and drinks are pretty delicious. They also have frozen drinks.

What a great use for an old building. Didn't try any of the food but the beer selection and service were great.
Pick a place to sit inside or out and then go order fast casual style. They give you a buzzer and it's that simple.
Looked like they were doing active construction on the building while we were there so I anticipate more businesses to be there next time. Besides the beer garden, café and thrift store.

The owners of this establishment own probably 10 to 15 other restaurants in the Denver area and are known union busters. The food is basic Cisco… So typical Denver. So I will not be back.
Strong drinks with a 20% tip added on. The rent on this place must be astronomical. They are not gonna do very well when winter comes and it’s too cold to sit outside I don’t think anyone’s gonna wanna sit In the dark dingy school part of the building. The inside Has horrible decor, lighting, and energy.
Just has a weird corporate, cold, no style vibe

The included service charge is nice not having to think about tip until you're reminded you've ordered from a counter, picked up your food and drinks from a counter, and cleaned up after yourself.
Only the inside bar has beer taps so be aware of the $9 cans of beer up front/outside. Atmosphere makes up for it all

Atmosphere is cool, but the automatic 20% added tip was a slap in the face. The owners replied to other reviews calling this out by complaining that minimum wage regulations are to blame for inequality between front of house and back of house employees, such that this added shared tip is the only way to compensate their employees fairly. First, there are no front of house employees waiting on you, it's all counter service, so nobody deserves a tip to begin with. I usually tip a buck or two in these situations, probably another if im ordering a drink, and i feel thats generous. Second, even if this was a fancy sit down restaurant with excellent service, the owners have the power to adjust back of house pay to whatever they want to compensate everyone fairly. Hell, they have the power to go tipless and raise front of house pay too. Get out of here with this bullshit about minimum wage causing inequality. Raise your prices, and then pay your employees fairly. Their workers sound like they would be better off forming a union.
Poor management
We recently hosted a resident event from Novel Uptown at School Yard Beer Garden, and it was such a great experience! Everyone loved the food, drinks, and overall atmosphere—we’ll definitely be back for more events in the future. A special shoutout to Noah, the manager, who was wonderful to work with. He made the whole process smooth, from coordinating details to making sure we were comfortable with heaters and everything we needed for the outdoor setup. Truly a great partner to work with!

One of the best new neighborhood beer gardens around. It’s spacious, dog-friendly, and always feels relaxed. Great variety of beers on tap and the wings are awesome! Perfect spot for warm afternoons with friends or to unwind after a long day.
