When my wife and I were in the Cherry Creek area of Denver on our Colorado trip, we had dinner at the Elway's restaurant. The service, the menu and the atmosphere of the restaurant were excellent. The restaurant had a lot of people dinning and all of them looked very happy.
Overall, not really keeping up with other steakhouse chains. Server was excellent. Cheerful. Good at making you feel good about your choices. Well trained. Had worked their 6 years (I asked) which means probably a pretty well run front of house operation. Wine list seems to be a 2.5x markup. Extensive list with wines up to $13,000 a bottle. They seem to push you to the $150-250 bottles. Not out of the norm for a steak house chain. Portions are sizable. While this is an expensive meal, many of the dishes are a good value. Ordered a Rye Manhattan because I don’t like them too sweet. One of the sweetest I’ve had. Should have asked what vermouth so I can avoid that. Good steakhouse size pour. Group was thrilled with the lobster tots. Plenty big and decent amount of lobster. Probably the best value on the menu. Chicken corn chowder was very good. Grilled artichoke was a hit. Appetizers came out very quickly. Must be semi prepared in advance and then heated up. Steaks were cooked as ordered and looked to be the size ordered (a common problem at steakhouses). They are not seasoned and not with juices or butter. Some may find them a bit dry to their taste. This is good but not too notch beef. Wet aged, if aged at all. I would avoid the peppercorn sauce. It’s a sweet bordelaise with a couple of green peppercorns thrown in. Capital Grills is much better. Cream of spinach was kind of gross. Way too much Parmesan cheese. Brussels sprouts were a big disappointment. Covered in batter and fried like an Oreo at the state fair. No room left for dessert so can’t opine on that. Decor needs updating. One of our party called it “weird”. Overall a good but not great experience. I do better at Ruth Chris or Capitol Grills.
Overall this was a decent visit, but just seemed to lack that 'special feel' like we have had in past visits. The food was really good, but again, just not a fantastic meal. We oredered two different salmon dishes and the boneless ribeye. Good, but for the price it just didn't hang with it's comparably priced competition. Ceasar salads were good - again not great - very slim on the dressing - which is fantastic - without the optional anchovy's or tomatoes. Key Lime pie and creme brulee were a fantastic finish though. Just didn't get the top notch service for the price point. I'm not trying to be too harsh, but honestly felt like service was better matched for a chain restaurant like Chili's. As always, the ambiance was great. Will probably 'give it a shot' once again after the pandemic has passed but for $235 for three people, I'd rather try another 'top tier' offering in the same class.
This was my third visit to Elway 's for our anniversary celebration and probably our last. I usually order the bone in rib eye which was excellent both times I had it. Last night I decided to order the twin lobster tails. That a terrible mistake. They were like chewing rubber. That comes from an experienced chef not knowing how to cook a lobster. I might be able to understand the rubbery texture if it was a 2 pound lobster but these were little 5 ounce tails which should have melted in your mouth. Not so. For the prices they charge surely they should hire an experienced chef. I dearly love potatoes au gratin. Both times I had been there before I ordered them and they were horrible . I thought surely someone can't possibly b e that bad a cook to mess it up the third time. Wrong! I have never in my life had such bad au gratin potatoes. Completely dried out way over cooked and tasteless. No creaminess and if there was cheese, it was damn hard to find. All in all, I was expecting a great night out but was extremely disappointed. I don't mind paying the outlandish prices if the food is good. $10.50 for a baked potato is outlandish. I doubt very much if I will ever waste my time and money going back to Elway as there are other really good steakhouses in Denver.
I met my friend for lunch at Elway's. Had only been there a few times over the years, but my friend wanted to meet there. Upon arrival, I was seated quickly to wait for my friend's arrival. The restaurant looks nice, but the booth I was seated in was uncomfortable with a bumpy seat cushion that felt broken. My friend said that we could split a chicken lunch salad, which she had done before, because it is so large. It took almost 20 minutes for our middle aged male waiter to ask us what we wanted to drink and take our order. My friend asked if we could get a basket of bread/rolls, which she said was normal. I couldn't tell if it was because we weren't spending a lot of money/splitting a menu item or if he's just rude in general, but he had an unfriendly and condescending air about him.. About 10 minutes later he brought us our drinks and no rolls. My friend, who has impeccable manners, asked about the bread again & again our waiter agreed and said he'd get right on it. Waited another 5-10 minutes and were given the salad we'd ordered on 2 separate plates. They were both tiny and not terrible to eat, but not great either. Still no bread, so my friend, again politely asked for it again. My friend was very surprised by the very small amount of salad we received compared to her past experienced. We happily chatted eating a very average, tiny but expensive salad. Still no bread. My friend signaled to another wait staff person to come to our booth and asked for bread again. Finally, this man (not our waiter) brought us bread and butter. Two small rolls. Our original waiter re-filled our ice tea, again upon request. You have to pay in the parking lot (attached to Cherry Creek Mall), but Elway's will give you a parking voucher. Our waiter said nothing about this, but my friend and I asked the polite woman at the front desk and she gave both of us one. After a very disappointing meal and still feeling kind of hungry, to add to the frustration (and my overall cost), my voucher wouldn't work for me to get out of the parking lot. There were cars waiting to get out of the lot behind me, so I had to just pay the parking fee rather then return to Elway's to get the situation resolved.
Amazing quality. Cocktails were definitely top shelf and food was amazing, from the beginning salad to the final dessert. Still talking about it.
I was so disappointed with our meal. We ate there on 1/18/2020 with a party of 4. We all ordered a steak with some sides....the steaks had no flavor at all. One of the steaks was ordered medium rare...more on the rare side and it came out medium well. Our server was very inattentive....another server had to fill our water glasses. The over all experience was very disappointing and our bill was $800. Will not go back there ever!!!!!
My policy continues - decent food, but so overpriced, so not from my wallet. And service just so-so. Went for Sunday brunch. Had two appetizers to share, and both were good. Had to ask 3 times for my coffee to be refilled. Bill before tax and tip was $50 for two apps, a drink, and coffee. Definitely not worth my $.
Never been to an Elway’s before. We usually don’t go to “fancy” restaurants. We were very pleased with all aspects of our visit! Although pricey, the quality and quantity of food we selected was outstanding!! You’ve got to try the Lobster Tater Tots! We had them as an appetizer. Yummy! The NY strip was cooked perfectly and delicious! The Cherry Creek Salad was excellent! We look forward to our next visit!
Went there for my birthday and ordered the most expensive steak on the menu, 26 oz. porterhouse, $68, medium rare with a $5 add on blue cheese butter. Got a dried, up steak that looked like it might have weighted 16 oz. with not a drop of juice or butter on the plate, took one bite out of the fillet side and got a dried bite of meat, no red whatsoever, cooked well done. After telling the waitress it was overcooked she suggested to cut into the center of the cut. TOTALLY INSULTING!. Asked it to be replace with the braised short ribs that my wife was eating figuring it would come out quickly. 15 minuets later when she came by I told her to box it up when it came out.

5 star dining in Denver! Food the best ever. Had lamb which was probably the best ever. Brussels sprouts were amazing. Wine selection with prices can be better. Customer service above reproach. The 2 deserts we had we fabulous.
To dine at Elway’s is just a average steakhouse at best.Yes they claim it’s prime beef but when I dined at both locations the meat was average at best! I honestly believe that I was served a lower grade meat at both locations! I know my different grades (Meat) steaks and to me the marbling of my Prime USDA steak just wasn’t present here at Elway’s.How do I know this ? I use to work as a butcher cutting steaks from Select to Choice to Prime.Different grades of beef that you can actually see. Yes Elway’s is a Upscale Prime Steakhouse here in Denver but to me it’s just average at best with the food that’s served at both locations.Yes the steaks were tender but any steak will get tender if dry age it or wet age it for a certain amount of days. Its not rocket science! I ordered the Boneless 16 ounce Ribeye that was $54 at both locations (Downtown and Cheery Creek) It was far from a prime steak could ever be! very little marbling whatsoever. Its like they trimmed all the marbling away! Average ribeye steak that I could get way cheaper at any Texas Road House Nationwide! I was fooled twice at these locations I promise I won’t be fooled again for a 3 rd time! and for thinking I would really enjoy this place cause it’ has John Elway’s. Name behind it ? I was wrong . I also ordered jumbo crab cakes as a starter and they were cooked so perfectly tasted great that I had to order again! I should of just stuck with the crab cakes and I would of been better off! Sides were Au Gratin Potatoes which weren’t cheesy enough! Creamed corn and Sautéed Asparagus which tasted good! Final thought on Dining here at Elway’s it was a experience that I thought could be better if I tried a different location cause everyone has a off night but not two times in a row. 1st time experience at both locations and the steaks were not prime in my experience of dining at Prime Steakhouses There are way better Prime Steakhouses In The Metro Denver Area Period! Food is average at best so I have to say the value $$$$ (Cost) of Elway’s is Poor! More money in his pocket!
Super friendly cashier and great service
I’m not a huge Thai food fan but went to dinner with others that were. I decided on the Chicken Pineapple Curry and it was delicious, so good we are going back tonight to have it again before heading home.
I stopped getting their chicken tenders a few months after they opened because old grease = strong chemical taste.... I still liked their wraps and sweet potato fries until today when I experienced the same (if not worse) chemical taste from eating a fry..... I'll never go here again
