My mother in law brought us some green chili from here & it was some of the best green chili I’ve ever had!!! We’ll definitely be stopping by next time we go through Dove Creek on our way to visit her in Utah!!

The meatball sandwich is by far the best I’ve had anywhere! The burgers , hotdogs, chicken fried steak , is something that nobody else in the area can claim they compete with, by far the most mouth watering food one can get anywhere close, and bang for your buck , the lunch box comes in under cost , especially compared to subpar food in other places locally. Great atmosphere, great service/ owner. Favorite place for locals to chow down. This is the only place I’d recommend to eat for anybody coming through town. This place has small town atmosphere and price, with big city flavor and quality. Did I mention green chili, or house made bean chilli, definitely worth stopping and trying. There really isn’t another place that competes within 1000 miles, it’s the only restaurant I proudly support and eat at , and obviously recommend. The lunch box is a home town jewel, that we are happy to have. This place is what other places strive to be, and continues to get better.

What I enjoy is exploring unique places for burgers. I’ve been to Big Jud’s in Archer ID, Kenny’s Burger Joint in Plano TX, Kewpee in Lima OH, Meers Store & Restaurant in Meers OK, Burger Bar in Roy UT, and many more.
I was passing through a small town called Dove Creek CO and decided to try a restaurant called The Lunch Box. The burgers looked good in the Google images and a comment was made about them having the best burger in the 4 Corners area.
I was traveling with my friend and we ordered the DC Melt and the Hatch Chili Burger (made it a double). We had the burgers cut in half so we could both try each.
The DC Melt was very good. Proper grilled bread, good toppings, and the meat was seasoned nicely.
The Hatch Chili Burger…I haven’t had a burger this good in a long, long time. The combined flavors were so exceptional. The grease content in the sandwich was perfect (for me), and the bun was quality. The cheese flavor in the sandwich was really outstanding with the perfectly cooked chilis for the overall taste.
This is in the top three best burgers I’ve EVER had.
All of the staff were so nice on the phone and in person. I picked up my order, but the restaurant was a very nice place. If I had time to stay I would have.

Touring Southwestern Colorado & Hovenweap Monument in Utah, we decided to take an hour detour from our route to drive through Dove Creek and happened upon this gem of a hometown cafe. Some of the best chicken fried steak w/gravy, fresh green beans & fries for myself and a delicious green chile burrito with fresh made pinto beans for my wife. The portions so large that we made two meals out of them. If driving through Dove Creek and you are hungry, stop and enjoy some darn good food. If within an hour's drive from there, take the detour . HOLY COW! This was such a yummy stop!!! From the chips to beans, you could tell everything was home made and the seasoning was EVERYTHING! I kept saying every bite I took, it was another food ride!
I had the nachos with the chicken tinga with sour cream and olives on the side and extra salsa. Every. Single. Bite. Was. Amazing!! That chicken man, I can’t get enough of it!!
My husband had the chicken fried steak, green beans and some kind of green hatch chili with beans and chunks of meat with gravy on the side. WOW!!! Just WOW!!!! The green beans were that of heaven decent and the hatch chili stuff WAS EVERYTHING!
And then the owner, Joshua, came out and that was just the cherry on top. He was such a nice guy who you could tell this wasn’t just about owning a business, it is a craft to him. You can tell he took raw hours to create such pairing of flavors. Well done my man!! We will ALWAYS stop here when coming through. You know when you’ve found something so special that you want to hide from the world but also shout it from the top of a mountain? This is that. I equally want to tell every single person I know about this but also want to keep it a beautiful secret just for me. Thankfully, it won’t be the latter, let the raving commence. The locals are lucky to have a place this amazing and for such reasonable prices.
