Closed for an indefinite time. We visited last week and saw the sign on the door. As I later read in the local paper, this restaurant is next door to our historic steam excursion train station, but the train is not using that depot during the pandemic. This restraint enjoyed much business from people departing the train, and found itself unable to survive financially without that business. We will miss it.
Earlier in this review page appears my one star review from our visit on July 19, 2019. This rating was so low because when we visited the restaurant it was pretty vacant, and we were told we could not be seated due to lack of staff, even though most tables were vacant. Yesterday, we decided to give this restaurant another try. This time, it was far more full with customers than the time before. Nonetheless, we were seated quickly, and were even given a choice of the dining room...
Great location in downtown Durango and adjacent to the Durango-Silverton railroad. Restaurant has been here for many years and has a lot of history. We were warmly greeted and seated promptly. Good variety of menu options. We had the Tavern sirloin and the Tavern trout and both were excellent. We topped off the meal with a slice of Key Lime pie, which was also very good. Kimber, our server, was very personable and checked on us regularly. Very good experience.
