My family didn't plan ahead well and we didn't have a reservation for Saturday, 2/14, when we landed in town to go skiing. A Sat night and Valentine's Day. We called Switchback and asked about the wait and they said no wait at the moment and we said we would be there shortly. They had thoughtfully gone ahead and set a table for us (a great table at the front, I might add). Friendly service, great food, reasonable prices, both healthy and decadent options for food, yummy cocktail - kids were happy, too (including with the churros). We will definitely come back.

Considering all of the places I’ve tried while visiting Durango, Switchback’s in definitely in the top. The food is reasonably priced, smaller portions, but really had amazing flavor. Service was good, we all had water so no real refills, but our waitress checked on us a few times. I had the 3 for $12 tacos. They were a little small but packed with flavor. I had the steak and the shrimp and both were good with the steak a little better. Also had the elote and was not disappointed. It was really good also.

Really good fajitas, and tasty margarita flight! My husband got some beef tacos and serving size was for little babies. Especially for the price, would be smart to make more appropriate serving sizes. Would come back for the tequila flight & fajitas!

Birria taco plate was adequate. Rice bowl was ridiculous. It was supposed to have rice, beans, veggies and chicken. There was minimal chicken and literally 7 beans. Portion was too small. The waitress didn’t check on us until we were done eating. Will not be back.

This place is special, and they KNOW how to flavor their tofu. The vegan fries were so good that I didn’t even snap a pic, and then they modified the taco salad to make it vegan with the cashew crema and more of the awesome tofu! I hope these awesome vegan offerings stay strong at Switchback. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Heard great things… wasn’t impressed. Overpriced for quality.
The good: superb service! The bad: cocktails - colored syrup with ice, very little liquor, if any. The ugly: the food.... overcooked carne asada flank steak interred over a pyre of grease saturated Frisbo machine fries. Three dollar tacos: slivers of meat served on goopy corn tortillas that fall apart, best eaten with a spoon. For the price everything was very disappointing.

The birria ramen tastes like nothing. The broth they use is so greasy you get a bellyache from it. I asked the waiter if he recommended it and he said yes which is why I got it. Absolutely disgusting!!

Switchback is a modern take on Mexican food with a great bar, good food selection and good service.
Located right on the main street in Durango, Switchback has an extensive menus of tacos and related Mexican dishes. I loved the three dip trio (you can choose three dips from a menu of five or six). The tacos were good if slightly small. The upside is you get three for $12 and that's good value for money.
If you want a casual dinner, this is a great choice.
