While waiting for my food to be ready all I could hear was the cook complaining about his job for 15 minutes straight. Swearing and sometimes the entire time. This is not a healthy work environment (whether due to short staffing of the employees or attitude of the employees, I don’t know) and not a good conversation for clients to overhear. Made me uncomfortable contributing to this unhealthy situation. Also veterinary professionals have very stressful jobs a lot of the time, the last thing they want to hear on their breaks are people complaining about their jobs. Food was ok

Wish this was in Denver ! Here I thought I was ordering something because it was convenient, near the vet hospital at CSU. I'd come from Denver with my cat, who needed a checkup. There were signs in the parking lot about the café being able to deliver -- to the parking lot. As with plane food, I went with the simplest food I could think of. It would be full of rote and ho-hum calories. But what arrived was simple and delicious -- a gourmet-caliber grilled cheese sandwich with three kinds of cheese, good grain bread, and fresh pesto; and a green side salad that actually tasted the way salad is supposed to taste. The little container of balsamic vinaigrette is probably the best balsamic vinaigrette I've ever had, not exaggerating. When my cat and I return to for the next checkup, I'm going to see about buying a couple of bottles of the vinaigrette. ( P.S. The salad came in a "new" kind of biodegradable foam container -- very Fort Collins. ) The magic of the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital: Offering not only the best dermatology department in America (IMHO) but also the opportunity to be well-fed in a parking lot, during a pandemic.

So at my dog's latest appointment at the VTH, I noticed that they had signs up advertising the Harvest Moon Cafe, which is located in the lobby of the Translational Medicine Institute, a few minutes (driving) away from the client parking lot. Given that appointments are currently contactless and I generally find myself mindlessly browsing my phone as I wait anyway, I decided to take a look at the menu. I was pleasantly surprised -- I expected pretty pedestrian offerings (oh, say breakfast burritos, oatmeal, sandwiches, sad salads, etc.) -- but what I found was a varied, international menu that even included a nice selection of vegan/vegetarian options. Bibimbap (steak or tofu) for breakfast? Wow. An Israeli street food sandwich? Interesting! As it so happens, my dog's appointment was mid-morningish, so I'd already had breakfast and it was a bit too early for lunch, but I wanted to try something and it was a good distraction from just sitting there waiting in my car. I ordered the South American avocado toast online, specifying curbside pickup. The website said my food would be ready in about 10 minutes, so I headed on over. There is a sign as you exit the client parking lot directing you to the right if you are going to the cafe -- you don't have to leave the VTH campus to get there. There is another sign directing you into the TMI parking lot, and then from there you need to find your way to the front of the TMI building. You'll find 2 spots designated for Harvest Cafe customers only, though the signage is different/not as obvious as the street signs. My food was delivered pretty much on time, plus the couple of minutes it took for the delivery person to walk from the lobby to my car. So that was a lot of description of the process -- you're probably wondering what about the food? I'd say really good! There was a thick layer of mashed avocado on a nice slice of multi-grain bread. I had added fried eggs (had a choice of over hard, poached, or fried) and they were cooked perfectly with a thickened but still runny yolk. The chimichurri and pico de gallo added great flavor and a slight spicy kick, and a nice crunch from the toasted pepitas. I'd get it again! While you might not think of coming here unless you had another reason to be on the VTH campus, it is open to the public for online ordering and pick-up.
