If you're in FOCO this is a very nice place to have a big steak. They dry age their meats in a controlled environment. Definitely worth going here and Rare will probably be a place that you frequent meant times. Be prepared for higher prices.

Rare Italian used to be one of my favorite restaurants, but the quality of food and service has significantly declined over the past few years. I first noticed the slip in 2022, and my disappointment grew when I celebrated my birthday there on June 12, 2023, with three family members.
During that visit, the waiter was rude and brought us the wrong bottle of wine, which turned out to be more expensive but not impressive. I typically order the filet mignon, but the waiter convinced our table to try pasta dishes and the 32 oz. Dry-Aged Bistecca Alla Fiorentina to share. Unfortunately, the steak was tough, fatty, and had very little usable meat—hardly worth the price.
Despite these experiences, my husband and I decided to give Rare Italian another chance last night. Sadly, it was another letdown. The waitress was inattentive, and I had to flag her down twice. I ordered a glass of the house Rosso, and to my surprise, it was full of bubbles (see the photo).
We started with two appetizers, the crispy Brussels sprouts and fried calamari, which were the only highlights of the meal—they were both well-prepared. For our main courses, my husband had the chicken, and I ordered the filet mignon with a side of sautéed spinach. The filet mignon was mediocre at best, lacking the flavor and quality it used to have, and it came sliced in two, which was unusual and unappealing. The sautéed spinach was overly salty to the point that I couldn’t finish it.
Adding to the disappointment, the waitress didn’t offer us bread but served it to other tables nearby. We were also seated at a community table, even though other tables were available, which was particularly frustrating as I’m disabled and find high chairs uncomfortable. The entire meal took about two hours, which felt excessively long given the slow and inattentive service.
For the price, Rare Italian no longer offers the quality or experience it once did. This visit was deeply disappointing, and I won’t be returning.

Food was delicious. We’ve had issues finding places in Fort Collins that we “must go back.” This will be a place we choose to go back to. The filet was flavorful and other entrees were good as well. Portions can be small if you get the wrong entree. Staff was decent with kids slowing up the ordering process.

I’m so incredibly disappointed. I ordered delivery through NOCO NOSH. This carbonara was 27 dollars…It was such a small portion, I finished it In about 8 small bites. It had maybe 4 small pieces of pork on it. I was very sad to have paid so much and not been full from my meal :( .

Great food, great service, great location. We had such a good time at Rare for a family celebration. Creative and high quality cocktails (including creative NA options), delicious food, and outstanding service from Jeffrey and the whole Rare team. They made our evening extra enjoyable. Highly recommend.

Great atmosphere and location. I was in a party of 8. We all came to the same conclusion that the entrees were ok and that the appetizers were actually better than the main meals.
Two exceptions, however, were in regard to the steak meals. Both said their steaks were the best they’ve had in town which is a bit counterintuitive considering this is an “Italian” restaurant. The Italian meals for the remaining 6 were ok at best with the same response regarding desserts.

My shrimp rigatoni was incredible. My husband’s steak was good but not amazing. Especially because it arrived pre cut. The wine and cocktail selection is lovely and the service was great.

I really can’t describe the gratitude I have for Collin and his staff. We celebrated my partners BSN, RN graduation there last night and every single moment was perfect. From the UNBELIEVABLE food, to the impeccable wine/ drink selections this was absolutely the best experience we could have asked for. I wish we got more food/dessert photos but we were truly in the moment.
I reached out a month ago to reserve a table and ask about custom menus and Collin was the most patient and accommodating GM I’ve ever worked with. When we arrived last night, he greeted us personally, shared his favorite wine recommendation and pointed out the beautiful custom menus with my partner’s congratulations message he printed for us.
I can’t thank Collin and the entire restaurant enough for completely exceeding our expectations, from start to finish.
This was our first visit to RARE and this will now be a new staple in our go-to restaurants.
If you’re thinking of booking an event here or are just needing an absolutely DELICIOUS date night idea, this IS the place! ♥️
