We were a group of 14 teens and adults passing through on our way home after a race. We were seated immediately and able to order a couple pizzas together started. We had food in the table in like ten minutes. Our server was amazing…super accommodating and on top of things. None of our food was super amazing—everything was a little bland, but it came out hot and fast, so we could get back on the road. The fries were delicious!

This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever had. Service was slow to the point where, even though we had planned to dine in, we ended up having to take our food to go.
When ordering, the server asked if we wanted it “separate.” Naturally, we thought she meant separate checks. But when it came time to pay, she suddenly claimed she meant separate tables. Because she never clarified, one person in our group had to cover everyone else’s meals. Instead of apologizing for the confusion, she got angry at us for “not understanding.”
At the register, her behavior became flat-out disrespectful. She actually told us to “grow up” and even said “don’t ever come back here.” I have never had a server speak to me like that in any restaurant.
Between the long wait, the miscommunication she caused, and the outright rude comments, this place completely ruined what should have been a simple meal. I would not recommend it to anyone. ON TOP OF THAT there were workers smoking right out side the OPEN door and the smoke was coming in but the workers did nothing to fix it. Even after acknowledging many customers were coughing and uncomfortable they didn’t tell the other workers to move. Then the smoking workers came back inside and going straight behind the counter to cook WITHOUT washing their hands.

⭐⭐☆☆☆ Extremely Disappointing – Not Worth the Hype
I really wanted to like this place, but the experience was frustrating from beginning to end. We waited about an hour for our food, and when it finally came out, the appetizers and main dishes were brought at the same time, completely defeating the purpose of ordering starters.
The salad was terrible— basically just lettuce, barely any dressing. The pizza was just okay, nothing special. Definitely not worth the long wait. The pasta was bland and completely flavorless, like they forgot to season it at all.
Worst of all, the service was awful. After dropping off the food, our server vanished. No refills, no check-ins—we didn’t see them again until it was time to pay the bill.
Between the poor service, long wait times, and disappointing food, this was a huge letdown. Definitely won’t be coming back.

We got the bread sticks and a pizza. Breadsticks were 4/5 and the pizza was 3/5, not horrible but nothing extraordinary. The calzones looked visually great and large, wish we got one. Overall the place is not amazing, but did the job of getting okay food and a place to sit.
I have debated on writing this review since did t get a chance to try the food. After a long day of shooting and hiking at Devils Nose my family and decided to go to Idaho Springs for a late lunch. We decided to go to Pick Axe Pizza without reading reviews. We were sat immediately and the restaurant was pretty dead for a Sunday Afternoon. We were brought a pitcher of water and cups man’s told we would be helped shortly. We seen the waitress help to two table around us, bring refill etc.. however as we looked around , she just passed us up. After about 20 minutes the bartender came to help and asked if we would like drinks, we said we were fine with water, still no order taken. He said the waitress would be with us soon to take our order. It as at this time we decided to walk out the establishment and go across to the street to eat only to receive similar treatment. I never play the race card, but I think in this instance it is appropriate. Did I feel like my family was profiled? Yes! Did I feel like we were not welcome In the establishment? Yes!

Service was absolutely horrible. The wait staff was absolutely awful! Not once were we greeted. We were brought waters and that was it. Wait staff completely ignored us but were eager to take orders and bring checks to all the other tables, except ours. We all stood up and walked out. The treatment we received felt 100% racially motivated. After going through reviews of this restaurant it all makes sense now. Many customers of color have received the exact same treatment we did or worse! So if the wait staff is so uncomfortable serving people of color, why don’t you guys put up a sign that says “WHITES WELCOME ONLY” because after seeing the treatment from not only this restaurant but from The Buffalo across the street it’s obvious that’s the only race they’ll be nice to. Idaho Springs used to be a welcoming safe environment, that’s no longer the case.
